When I create a new tab it always presents a Yahoo search engine rather than my home page (Google). A new session of firefox does not do this but acts normally

When opening a new tab, the 'homepage' presented in the new tab is a Yahoo homepage. If however, I open a new session of Firefox rather than a new tab, I get my normal Google homepage.

  • How do I get a new tab to open with my fave search engine?

    I have Vista with the updated Firefox. I want my favorite search engine to automatically load when I select a new tab. So far, I can only get a blank page or preset group of tabs to load, not my search engine. I can get this with IE, how can I do this with Firefox? When I updated the Ask&Record toolbar to the Freecorder Community Toolbar, I deselected the changes, hoping this would not change my settings, but it seems that didn't work as expected.

    You can middle-click or Ctrl left-click the Home button on the Navigation toolbar to open the Home page in a new tab.

  • When I open new tabs they currently open to yahoo. I want to change it to google but I can't figure out how.

    I want new tabs to open to google which is my homepage. Right now they open to yahoo which I have never used. How do I change it to make the tabs open to my homepage?

    Firefox opens a new tab by default with a blank page (about:blank).<br />
    If that isn't happening for you then an extension has changed that.
    See:
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
    You can look at one of these extensions:
    * NewTabURL : https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/newtaburl/
    * New Tab Homepage : https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/new-tab-homepage/

  • New Tabs appear as :Blank, why don't they open in my home page every time?

    I have set my home page to the standard Google Ireland search page and this works fine. But when I open a new tab, it opens as a blank tab every time.
    The TAB section under TOOLS does not allow me specify what I would like a new tab to open as....
    It just opens a blank tab every time.
    How can I make a new tab open as the home page every time?

  • HT202225 I keep getting pop ups on my iMac for the first time in 6 years after one of my kids tried to watch football through crichd tv. safari now opens with smart search engine rather than google every time i try to open a new web page.

    Ever since one of my kids tried to watch football on a website called crichd tv I keep getting pop us come up like Mackeeper and every time i try to open a web page it comes up with Smartsearch rather than google which is my preferred search engine in preferences. I have blocked extensions and changed homepage to google but this Smartsearch keeps overriding. Also a thing called MacKeeper keeps popping up I have followed the instructions to uninstall but the file it says to move to trash from the Applications folder but it simply isn't there or anywhere else. The file to uninstall Smartsearch is also not where they say it is in Library>frameworks>
    Very frustrating from going from a perfectly working system to a now very frustrating and annoying pop ups coming uo after every time i open a new web page.
    Any help or assistance in this matter would be very much appreciated.

    You (or your kids) inadvertently installed adware. You do not need to download or install anything to fix it.
    Any tips on how to stop it from happening?
    Yes. To learn how to avoid it in the future read How to install adware.
    If you require them, Apple's removal instructions are linked in the Recovery Procedure near the end of that document. Read and follow them carefully. Pay particular attention to the easily overlooked passages directing you to restart your Mac when required.

  • Firefox always opens with a search box rather than my homepage.

  • When I go to a website, I get a menu of the website (a list down the left-hand side of the page) rather than the home page itself. Using internet explorer, I get to the home page. Why not on Firefox? It just started happening recently

    I updated firefox a couple weeks ago, but updating has never caused this problem.
    I installed a program to help the computer run more efficiently, called "Fix-it Essentials," and that may have caused the problem, though it didn't for the first couple weeks I used it.
    So I still can't get to the homepage of many websites and navigate as I want to.

    Simple really. The first 3 articles have steps in them, but not in this order.
    #First, with Firefox closed, remove the toolbars from Windows ''Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs''. After the window populates, look for the Toolbars; if there, click on them and click on the button to the right of it that says "Remove". Then restart your system ''Start > Shut down > Restart''
    #*Article --> http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_toolbars#Uninstalling_via_Windows_Control_Panel
    #Second, start Firefox and check in Firefox Add-ons: '''''Add-ons > Extensions'''''. Look for Yahoo Toolbar or Babylon and try to remove by clicking "Remove" or "Disable".
    #*Article --> http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons <u>and</u> http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Cannot%20uninstall%20an%20add-on
    #Restart Firefox by exiting (''Firefox button > Exit'' or ''File > Exit''), wait a few seconds (10-30), then click the Firefox desktop icon to start Firefox and test to see if the problem is resolved.
    The last 3 articles are for other steps to take if the above does not work to solve your problem.

  • When a html coded page requires the Windows Symbol font, Firefox does not call it, and the English alphabet characters display instead. How can I get the Symbol font to work when the page is loaded in Firefox??

    ''duplicate of https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/902677''
    This site shows Greek letters and Greek words by calling for the Windows Symbol font. The page(s) involved display correctly in Internet Explorer, but not in Firefox 3.6.1 or 8.1. In Firefox, the Greek letter does not appear, it is just replaced with the English letter for the equivalent keystroke. Here is a html line that ought to cause Symbol's Greek letter lowercase alpha to be displayed, but all you get is an "a" :
    (td width="60")(p align="center")(big)(strong)(font face="Symbol")(span style="font-family: , Symbol")a(/span)(/font)(/strong)(/big)(/td)
    **I have had to replace the left and right carets with left and right parentheses. Otherwise, the line actually executes, disappears, and just leaves a bolded "a" on the next line.***

    Reemphasizing, the page code works on Internet Explorer. It does _not_ work with Firefox ver 3.6.1 nor ver 8.0.1 (which I upgraded to, to see if that would solve the problem). The MDC FAQ solution is not a solution, because it forces the html coder to change his language just to accommodate Firefox. Firefox needs to change to conform to standards.
    What did work was that I followed the solution offered on:
    http://hutchinson.belmont.ma.us/tth/firefox3.html
    "How to reenable symbol font in Firefox 3 on Windows"
    <b>**********Solution*********</b>
    Download the file:
    http://hutchinson.belmont.ma.us/tth/symbol8859.otf
    Go to Control Panel/Fonts/Install New Font
    Install the font that was downloaded.
    <b>************Problem Solved*********</b>
    I think Firefox wants you to use _its_ font faces, not the standard Windows fonts. They do not have a Symbol font to replace the Windows TTF, I guess.

  • I only get kernel panic when using Firefox on my Mac. There is a discussion on Mac sites but am wondering why Firefox does not address this problem?

    I then have to reboot the computer. Now I generally use Safari, which is much smaller and has fewer options. If this problem is as wide spread as other sites indicate, why hasn't Firefox fixed it?

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Mouse not active on top 1/4 of page. Won't give a pointing finger there. Can't log out or use any of the tabs at the top of a page. Internet Explorer does not do this, but we like your browser better. We just downloaded an update and the problem persists.

    On this page we cannot log out or use the search box or pick desktop or mobile. Once we get down to the "firefox help/forum" level the pointing finger comes up and we can activate a mouse click there. Above that nothing.

    The Yahoo! Toolbar extension and the Babylon extension have been reported to cause this issue. Disable or uninstall those add-ons.

  • How can I get rid of Yahoo Search starting up everytime I click + to open a new tab

    I recently downloaded a product (can't remember what it was) but
    it included the Yahoo Search Toolbar. Now, although I have
    disabled the ToolBar, everytime I click on + to open a new tab it
    ALWAYS brings up Yahoo Search Box before I can type in the ULR I am wanting to open. It's driving me mad.
    Can anyone tell me how to get rid of Yahoo Search Box. It does
    not appear in "Add or remove programs"
    Thank you

    Try deleting the Safari .plist file. Preferences can become corrupted.
    Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
    Click Go the move the com.apple.Safari.pist file to the Trash.
    Quit and relaunch Safari and check Safari > Preferences  > General. Make sure Google is selected.

  • Firefox does not re-initiate TCP session when receiving RST-ACK

    Hello guys,
    I’m writing to report a disparity between firefox and IE/Chrome when receiving RST-ACK.
    To mitigate SYN flood attack, one of the countermeasures of anti-ddos appliance is to reset the first 3-way handshake and expect a re-initiated new tcp session from that client. If the real client, browser for example, automatically re-initiate a new session, users won’t feel too much differences except time of delay. If a browser does not automatically start a new session, users have to manually refresh the page within an interval, like 60 seconds.
    We got reports from customers that firefox gave notifications of connection reset, as Graph 1 is. I tested with IE11, Chrome and firefox. It’s found that Chrome and IE will automatically started a new session, while firefox does not. For firefox users, they had to manually refresh the page.
    Anti-ddos appliance (A10 TPS, Arbor & HUAWEI secospace) does provide another option to avoid seeing this notification. I understand there must be consideration and good reasons for firefox to design the browser this way. May I ask whether it is possible to adjust a little on firefox to let it automatically re-fresh the page when seeing a RST-ACK please? Guess it’s quite common for firefox users to see the notification when access URLs during DDos attacks, because for A10 TPS & Arbor, the default setting is to reset the first 3-way handshake.
    Feel free to let me know if I missed something and got things wrong.
    Appreciate it much for your time!

    ops, seems packets are not allowed to be uploaded. anyone willing to check my question, kindly reach me at [email protected]
