When I create an external Virtual Network Switch on Gigabit Ethernet, Windows 8.1 will always crash in a few minutes.

The text in the blue crash screen is "Unexpected Keernel Mode Trap".
But it doesn't crash when I create the external Virtual Network Switch on 802.11n.
Why? How to fix this?

  • Hyper-V virtual network switch disconnects host machines network connection

When creating an external virtual switch for my Hyper-V machine, my hosts connection is lost immediately when applying the setting and is restored immediately after deleting the virtual switch.
Am I doing something wrong? It seemed pretty straightforward and I've followed steps that others have outlined to create the virtual switch.

When I checked, "Allow management operating systems to share this network adapter", and checked "Enable virtual LAN identification for management operating systems" another SNAFU happened. I found in network connections, Ethernet properties,
my "Internet protocol version 4 unchecked, and Hyper-V Extensible virtual switch checked, and I no longer had network access.  Again I had to remove my hyper-v external switch in hyper-v manager.  I guess I could try using my WIFI as the switch,
but getting hyper-v Windows Server 2012 R2 has been a real problem.
    I did the following steps:
To install and configure a virtual machine, complete the following steps:
    1. Start Hyper-V Manager by clicking Start, Administrative Tools, Hyper-V Manager.
    2. In Hyper-V Manager, right-click the server node in the left pane, point to New, and then select Virtual Machine. This starts the New Virtual Machine Wizard. Click Next.
    3. In the Name text box, enter a name for the virtual machine, such as AppServer02.
    4. By default, the virtual machine data is stored on the system disk. To select a different location, select the Store The Virtual Machine In A Different Location check box, click Browse,
and then use the Select Folder dialog box to select a save location. Click Next.
    5. On the Assign Memory page, specify the amount of memory to allocate to the virtual machine. In most cases, you should reserve at least the minimum amount of memory recommended for the
operating system you plan to install. Click Next. 6.
On the Configure Networking page, use the Connection list to select a network adapter to use. Each new virtual machine includes a network adapter, and you can configure the adapter to use an available virtual network for communicating with other
    computers. Click Next. 7.
On the Connect Virtual Hard Disk page, use the options provided to name and create a virtual hard disk for the virtual machine. Each virtual machine requires a virtual hard disk so that you can install an operating system and required applications.
Click Next. 8. On the Installation Options page, select Install An Operating System From A Boot CD/DVD-ROM. If you have physical distribution media, insert the distribution media, and then
specify the CD/DVD drive to use. If you want to install from an .iso image, select Image File, click Browse, and then use the Open dialog box to select the image file to use.
    9. Click Next, and then click Finish.
    10. In Hyper-V Manager, right-click the name of the virtual machine, and then click Connect.
    11. In the Virtual Machine Connection window, click Start. After the virtual machine is initialized, the operating system installation should start automatically. Continue with the operating
system installation as you normally would.
It installed and booted, came up to a blue screen asking me to hit Ctrl-Alt-Del to logon, and when I did, it gave the selection to switch user, task manager, ect...  didn't complete the install could not logon - did not have access to the internet to
    logon with my Microsoft Account.

  • Could not create shortcut Manage Virtual Networks.lnk during VM Server 2 install. Why?

I am trying to install VMware Server 2.0.2 on my HP Laptop running Windows 8 Pro as Host. But I am getting the following warning messages but the install continues to completion:
    Warning Msg:
Warning 1909. Could not create shortcut Manage Virtual Networks.lnk. Verify that the destination folder exist and that you can access it.
Warning 1909. Could not create shortcut Server Home Page.lnk.         Verify that the destination folder exist and that you can access it.
After installation, I am not able to login to the VM Server. When I click on the VMware Sever login icon, the error that I am getting states: okonita1:8333 -
    Oops! Page Not Found
Sorry, the page you were looking for could not be found.
I am at a loss how to correct this error. I have googled, read and followed a lot of the online help that I can find including taking ownership of suspect target folders such as ProgramData, all to no avail.
At this point, I am hoping someone does know what specifically can help resolve my issue and I am asking for help. VMware knowledge base or support are not helpful.
    Thanks all,
    Enyi

Did you run the VMServer setup *as Administrator*?
Did you have IIS installed on your system before you installed VMServer?

  • When loading any page with Flash content Firefox will always crash. Any Ideas to fix this?

The issue occured following upgrading to 3.6.13 from the previous version.
Firefox will not crash if the Adobe Flash plugin is disabled. I have uninstalled and re-installed Flash player & Firefox, both of which did not solve the problem.
The issue is not present within the latest versions of IE, Chrome, Opera or Safari.
Any help to possibly solve this problem would be greatly appriciated?

Are you getting the crash reporter when it crashes? If so, please provide a crash id -> https://developer.mozilla.org/en/How_to_get_a_stacktrace_for_a_bug_report

  • Why does wi-fi signal disappear when I create a dual band network?

I have an Airport Express (4th Generation), and I am trying to setup a dual-band network. My wife has a new 15" MacBook Pro and I am running a iMac (Version 7,1), which I purchased in March 2008. From what I have researched, I should be able to run a dual-band network; however, as soon as I set up the 5GHz network, my iMac loses wi-fi and I cannot join my network even though it appears in the wi-fi status in the menu bar (the MacBook Pro is just fine). Am I doing something wrong or is my iMac simply not compatible?

Are you trying to join your iMac to the 5GHz band or the 2.4GHz band? The problem may be that the 5GHz band does not transmit well through thick walls and it might not be reaching your iMac with a good enough signal strength. As far as I am aware the 2008 iMac does support 5GHz connectivity however someone else might know better.
Try joining the 2.4GHz network and see if that helps.

  • When I create an icon for a short cut on my desktop, why does it always include a separate icon for the files as well?

'''When I am trying to create a link to a webpage, I "save as" to my desktop, and the icon for the webpage appears. However, it also creates another icon that says the same thing but is a yellow manilla file folder. It clutters up the desktop. Is there a way of creating links without this? If I delete the file folder icon, it deletes the link as well.'''

That's not a shortcut you are creating with "save as", you are saving a copy of the webpage to your desktop - hence the folder with files for that webpage.

  • I'm trying to transfer music from iTunes on an old PC that uses an external storage device to a new PC (Windows 7) that will use that same external storage device.  I am also dealing with new iTunes 11.  How do I do this??  What folder does iTunes use?

I'm trying to transfer music from iTunes on an old PC (Windows Vista Home Basic) that uses an external storage device to store the files to a new PC (Windows 7 Starter) that will use that same external storage device.  I am also dealing with the new iTunes 11.  How can I accomplish this successfully?    What folder does iTunes use to store the data in?  I've tried several things.  Home Sharing caused duplicates but not all songs or apps transfered.  It is a large library! I've tried just setting the path in the Advanced Tab of iTunes preferences of the new computer with the external drive connected the same as the path when the external drive is connected to the old computer.  This was the best solution so far but still a few artists missing and some apps. Any suggestions?

Here are typical layouts for the iTunes folders:
With iTunes 11 you might also have a Home Videos folder inside iTunes Media.
In the simplest cases you copy the entire iTunes folder from <User's Music> on the source computer to <User's Music> on the target machine, install iTunes, and it "just works"TM.
If the media folder (inside the red outline) has been split out to a separate location then you can copy the library folder (outside the red outline) as before and connect the drive holding the media so that it has exactly the same path as before. If the drive appears as D: on one system and E: on the other then the library won't be able to find the media.
The crucial file is iTunes Library.itl - this contains a record of the tracks that have been added to the library, ratings, play counts, playlists etc.

  • IMovie has frozen up on me. I've tried rebooting and reinstalling the apps- no help. I can play some of the files- but I can't get into the libraries.Even when I can get something to play the whole system crashes after a few minutes. What can I do?

I desperately need your help. I was working on iMovie last night when the thing froze up on me. I've tried rebooting. I've tried reinstalling the apps. No change. I can play some of the files- although I can't tell which ones will play until they magically appear. I can't get into the project library or the event library. The bar that lets me scroll through the clips is gone. Even when I can get something to play the whole system crashes after a couple of minutes and generates a "problem report" that says "iMovie Quit Unexpectedly". This all started when I was adding cutaways- and one clip just would not load. After I tried several times everything froze up. Have you ever heard of something like this? Maybe I pushed a button or somehow changed a setting? Maybe some of the video is corrupt? What do you recommend?
Thanks for any advice you can offer!

I have tried all the above and nothing seems to work. Any other suggestions?

  • Itunes always crashes when I download podcasts.

The problem started with upgrade to itunes 10.6 or there about. My computer would crash when playing, crash on importing, crash on downloading podcasts. Most of the problems went away with the itunes 10.6.1 update, but when I try to download podcasts by pressing the "get all" button, the downloading will start and within a few minutes the system will give me the beach ball of death. Force Quit will not work, and nothing else will work either. I then have to press command + control + power (on my keyboard) – to restart. Then I use the button in the back of the imac to restart again. I always have to press both sets of buttons because the first restart always leads me to a non-startup screen with a flashing file folder. When I press the button again the imac finds its hard drive and starts up correctly. Since the "get all" button didn't work I tried to press the individual “get” buttons, but if I hit one button while the other item is downloading it can lead to a beachball and I start all over again!  I have a large podcast list and there are still hundreds of podcast episodes left to download.

  • Cannot create Hyper-V external virtual switch Server 2012 R2

    Hi,
I am unable to create an external virtual switch on server 2012 R2.  I have two Broadcom NICS bridged on a DC fully functional now.  I can install Hyper-V but the option is grayed out to create an external switch.  I try binding it to the
network bridge, connecting my two NICS and it makes no difference.
Am I correct in assuming that I cannot use Hyper-V on this server if the two NICS are bridged?
