When I delete an email, it's gone forever. Not even in trash bin!

When I delete an email from my iPhone, it is gone forever. I can't recover it from the trash folder. How do I get deleted emails to go into the trash bin?

  • On my ipad mini, when I delete an email from the inbox (and it goes into Trash), it immediately deletes that email from the server (ATT/Yahoo).  I've called support for both ATT and Apple and can't find a way to have the emails remain on the server.

My husband and I share an email address and if he misses a day checking email on his notebook, he doesn't receive the items that I have sent to Trash on my iPad Mini.
    Appreciate suggestions.
[The curious thing is, if I "move" the deleted emails from Trash on my iPad Mini into the Inbox, I can go to my notebook, open my online email and they are back in my ATT/Yahoo Inbox.]

  • Delete an email from the pc,  does not delete the email from the iPad.

    Hi
When I Delete an email from the pc,  does not delete the email from the iPad.  I'm not able to find a setting to fix this.  Does it mean I have to manually delete the emails from the iPad?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Thanks, I was told that my Yahoo account has to be setup on the Mac as a POP account.  Can you please let me know what the difference is (in simple terms) between IMAP and POP?

  • HT3228 When I delete an email on my iPad it also deletes it on my MacBook Pro but it is not in my trash anywhere so it is gone! When I delete an email in my iPhone it is still on my iPad and MacBook Pro-how to do this when I delete an email on my iP

When I get an email on my iPhone and delete it, it still shows up on my MacBookPro inbox-which I want it to do.
When I delete an email in my inbox on my iPad it disappears everywhere- it's not on my MacBookPro inbox nor trash, it's nowhere to be found-nor on my iPhone. I need to be able to delete inbox messages on my iPad when traveling but still see them in my inbox on my MacBookPro when I get to my office. How can I do this? If not in still in the inbox at least in trash. Thank you.

Try this to change the deleted folder on the ipad to the same as on your mac

The steps are pretty much the same as the gmail account used in the instructions, you may also be able to refresh the email folder list on the mac

Are emails deleted with an iClould account gone forever?

Go to Mail and open Preferences.
Click on the Accounts tab and select the [email protected] Check the settings for OutGoing Mail server, not sure how this will show up for two accounts on the same server. But I do see an area for "Edit SMTP server" in that list. Just make sure that is set to [email protected] Do the same with the old email address, but just make sure they have the [email protected] address.
Then go to the Composing tab and just make sure that the "Send new messages from:" Is set to "Account of selected mailbox". Or you could select the "[email protected]" address if you desire. But all emails will be sent from that email address unless you change it. You can do so when you have an outgoing email opened. In the area of the subject line, it gives you an option to send it from "[email protected]"

  • When I delete an email in Mail, shouldn't it also delete it from the PoP and/or Web accounts also?

More specifically, when I delete an email message in "Mail",  it still appears in  the POP (in this case Verizon) and/or the Web (MSN) accounts that I have. I then must redundantly delete the message again by going into each of those accounts.  And this is vice versa.  If I delete it from my Verison email, the message still appears in Apples "Mail" app.  Why can't I get the deletes to sync?

Nope, Verizon only offer POP as far as I know so you need them to make the change, and good luck with that
Also please note that MS are having a few issues with their Imap service (it's brand new) you may find that deletes do not always replicate, but it is a known issue and MS are on it.

  • When I delete an email from my hotmail account in the 'mail' application on my MacBook Pro, it is not deleted from the same 'mail' application on my iPhone 4s which my hotmail account has also been added. I thought my emails were synced over iCloud?

It is so frustrating because I cannot understand what is wrong. When I add an event to my calender on my iPhone it appears in my calender on my MacBook which is perfect and very convenient. The same thing occurs with reminders; everything syncs perfectly here. However when I delete an email from my MacBook from the 'mail' appliaction it doesn't delete from the same built-in application on my iPhone. This is extremely frustrating as I have to delete the same email twice on two different devices. I'd appreciate any feedback that would help resolve this problem!

Calendars (and contacts) can "sync" between your MBP and your iPhone through iCloud because they really live on the iCloud servers and the two devices are clients. iCloud can accomplish much the same trick for email messages because the email really resides on iCloud email servers.
If the email resides on some other server, that server is responsible for whatever syncing will be done. IMAP servers like the iCloud servers are built for such syncing; other mail servers may or may not be. iCloud would not be involved with email other than iCloud email.
I understand Hotmail has been changing how their email servers are accessed. Check with Hotmail support for any changes you may need to make to keep up.

  • My wife has an ipad2 which is synched with my imac. When she opens an email, it also opens on my imac, and when she deletes an email it deletes it from my imac. This is very frustrating. Can anyone help?

My wife has an ipad2 which is synced to my ipad (on snow leopard).
When she opens an email it opens it on the imac, and when she deletes an email it deletes it from the imac, whether it has already been opened on the imac or nt.
This is very frutrating and annoying.
    Any ideas?

It is hardly Apple's fault that Epson can't/won't update their driver, but at least Epson suggest that you use the Gutenprint driver, which in any case is far better that what Epson offer.
    You can get it here:
    http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/
You can download the latest version from here:

Have you downloaded the recent Apple update to Epson drivers?

  • Why when I delete an email, is there is a second copy to delete?

I have an iPad 2 using IOS5.  Now when I delete an email there is a second copy of the same email to delete.  This is not a big deal but why does it happen and what can I do to prevent it?  Thank you.

Let me double check.  Where do I choose whether to sync in iTunes and on it's own?

  • How do I set up my devices so when I delete an email it updates all devices?

When I delete an email from my iphone it does not delete from my email on my macbook.... This is frusterating, does anyone know the settings?
    Thank you,

It sounds like this is a POP account instead of IMAP?
Or if IMAP perhaps some setting in Mail>Preferences>Accounts>Mailbox Behaviors.

When I delete my emails, they all come back. How do I fix this?

I was having some weird issues like this until I deleted my email account and reset it up as IMAP instead of POP.  It's worked beautifully since then.

  • I want to delete certain emails on my ipad but not on my mac.  Right now when I delete a message on my ipad it moves to trash in my mac

I want to delete certain emails on my Ipad but not on my mac.  Right now when I delete message on ipad it moves message on mac to trash also.  Can I change this?

If this is an IMAP account, that is how it is supposed to work.  The whole point of IMAP is to keep your email synchronized across multiple access devices.
Instead of trash, you could move those files to a new IMAP folder you create, something like "ignore on iPad" folder.
