When I disconnect my MBP from my Thunderbolt display and reconnect, arrangement resets.

I have a MBP Retina and a 27" Thunderbolt display. When I disconnect from the Thunderbolt display and then reconnect, my arrangement is reset and I have to set it again.  This has been happening for the last day.
I am on OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite and I just updated the Thunderbolt firmware yesterday.

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Manage Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
However, there seems to be a bug in iOS 8 or iTunes 12.1.1 that cause this problem and I have not seen a solution

  • How can I automatically "retract" all windows from my Thunderbolt display back to my MacBook Air when I disconnect the display, esp if the Thunderbolt is the desktop with the white menu bar?

I am in and out of my office with my MacBook Air.  I would like to set it up so when I plug in my Thunderbolt display in the office, the Thunderbolt display has my desktop, menu bar and the open windows.  If I set the Thunderbolt display to mirror by MacBook Air it adjusts to the lower resolution of the MacBook Air, which is a waste of a cool monitor.  I can set it up as an extended desktop and drag the white menu bar to the Thunderbolt display so it displays my desktop but if I then disconnect my MacBook Air, the menu bar is absent and all the windows that were seen on that display are absent, as if it I was still attached to the larger display.  The only way around this is to go to Thunderbolt display preferences, drag the white menu bar back to the smaller display and manually drag all windows to the smaller display before disconnecting.  Doing this multiple times per day is a real pain.  Is there a way to set my MacBook Air to recognize when it is attached to the Thunderbolt display and automatically my desktop and all open windows to it and then do the same process in reverse when I unhook it?

It's definitely not supposed to work like that...when you plug the display in, it should just turn on and adjust your displays.  It works like that on my MBP.  Kind of a silly question, but do you have the MagSafe from the display plugged in your MBAir too?  Thats a requirement.  Beyond that, it should "just work."
Not sure if there is some setting to enable...i haven't seen it.  Call to support?

  • I recently purchased MBP retina  w/Thunderbolt Display

I recently purchased MBP retina with Thunderbolt display. Also purchased Apple Care for the MBP. Does the Apple Care cover the Thunderbolt display also? Or do I need to purchase additional Apple Care for the display? Back in 2006 when I bought previous MBP with Cinema Display, the Apple Care purchase covered both. Does this still apply or have the rules changed?

    hawpotr,
you can find the current terms and conditions of an AppleCare Protection Plan in your region of the world here.

  • Can you please tell me what to do when I change a file from PDF to word and it comes up with headers

Can you you please tell me what to do when I change a file from PDF to word and it comes up with headers and footers. I do not want the headers and footers but I need the information so that changes can be made in them  - There are over 80 pages in this document and every page had a header and footer. The document did not have any headers and footers when it was first typed out.

    Good day,
Try converting the document to a .doc format instead of .docx.
If that doesn't resolve the issue, please share the file with us via the File Conversion Issue form.  Be sure to reference this forum thread in your description so we can circle back on the issue.

  • When I share an album from iPhoto on iCloud and invite friends, can those with a pc view them?

When I share an album from iPhoto on iCloud and invite friends, can those with a pc view them?

That depends, see this link:   iCloud: iCloud Photo Sharing FAQ
iCloud Photo Sharing adds new features to shared photo streams, including the ability to share videos and allow subscribers to contribute to your shared streams. These new features work with the following devices and software:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iOS 7
Mac using OS X Mavericks v10.9 or later and either iPhoto 9.5 or Aperture 3.5
Apple TV with Apple TV software 6.0 or later
Windows PC using Windows 7 or later and iCloud Control Panel 3.1 or later
If you're using earlier versions of iOS, iCloud Control Panel, iPhoto, or Aperture, you can still create and view shared photo streams. Learn more.
If all fails, you can publish the shared photo stream as a webpage and mail  the links to your friends with a PC.
Can I share with people who don't use iCloud?
Yes. If you enable Public Website in the settings for your shared stream, your photos will be published to a website that anyone can view in an up-to-date web browser. Learn more about inviting people to view your shared photo streams.

It's a new machine - and the Thunderbolt Display is meant to work with it. You need to just make an appointment at your local Apple Store and have them fix whatever is wrong.
If you like, you could always try a SMC reset and a PRAM/NVRAM reset to see if either of those will get your keyboard back in working order...

  • Is there a way to connect 1 external thunderbolt display and 1 external HDMI display to a mid 2012 MBP (non-retina display)?

I've had a 24" Asus HDMI montitor for a while, and just got a 27" Apple thunderbolt display. I was wondering if there was a way to connect both of these to my mid-2012 Macbook Pro (non-retina). I know you can daisy-chain 2 thunderbolt displays, so I tried plugging my Asus into the thunderbolt display (using an HDMI to mini-display port adapter) and it didn't work. Suggestions??

Mini DisplayPort displays and adapters don't work directly with a Thunderbolt display, but will if you connect a Thunderbolt disk drive (with two Thunderbolt ports) between the Thunderbolt display and the Mini DisplayPort device.

  • Sound Switches Between Thunderbolt Display and MacBook Pro

I have an Apple Thunderbolt display and MacBook Pro set-up with dual screens. I have an iPhone plugged into a dock that runs to the display. When I have music playing out of the display and I disconnect my iPhone, it switches the sound to the MacBook Pro.
    1. How do I stop this from happening?
    2. If I can't stop it from happening, how do I move the sound from the MacBook Pro back to the display?
There doesn't seem to be any options within Preferences/Sound to change it back.
    Thank you.

I've a Spyder4Elite that I use on both my Thunderbolt Display and on my MBP - and, while both are calibrated, they don't - and cannot - 'match' one another, no matter how hard I try.
I suspect that you're running up against the same wall? Different technologies in different displays. I doubt that you'll ever get a perfect match: mine are just 'good enough'.

  • Thunderbolt display and drive unmounts

I have a Thunderbolt display and a new late 2013 MBPr 15 running 10.9. Since upgrading from an earlier MBPr my thunderbolt display connected thunderbolt drives (2 G-Techonolgies) intermittingly unmount and are unreachable by Disk Utility and a restart is required to remount the drive(s). Anyone experiencing this issue. G-Technonogies suggest putting the display at the end of the TB chain, not quite sure how to do this with the all-in-one connector. I have tried connecting the drives directly to the MBPr on one TB Interface and the Display on the other thru the all-in-one cable of the display, the issue still exists.

  • A free, simple undocking app for Thunderbolt Display (and non-thunderbolt) users...

If you are using a Thunderbolt display and have several external drives, it can be a pain to undock all of the external drives when you want to unplug the monitor. Here is a link to an app that can undock it for you. I've tested it on Lion. If you like it please leave a comment on the blog. Thanks!

Just download the app. Then run it anytime you want to eject all of your external drives.

  • Chain Time Capsule, Thunderbolt Display and MacBook Pro

I would like to setup the following configuration?
TimeCapsule <== ethernet cable ==> Thunderbolt Cinema Display
Thunderbolt Cinema Display <== thunderbolt cable ==> MacBook Pro (thunderbolt port)
Does this configuration support the following concurrent connections?
to Time Capsule through thunderbolt port
to Internet through airport wireless card
I would like to assess this configuration before the purchase.

  • HT1515 I have moved from windows to mac and had to reset my airport. I am trying it to join the existing wireless network. the process ends in an unexpected error. The ethernet connection seems to work OK

I have moved from windows to mac and had to reset my airport express. After the reset I enter the name of the existing network, name the base unit, enter its password twicw and select additional options as join the existing network. It comes back with a screen asking for the name of the base unit and password. Aftre which it starts cycling between "waiting for airport express", "connecting to 'network name'" and ends with an error message. When I try to set up using ethernet cable evrything works but I need wireless (it worked OK just hours ago). Any advice?
    Thank you

    Hello, vgafromva.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Sometimes a simple power cycle of the AirPort can resolve this issue.  However, here is an article I would recommend going through when experiencing issues connecting to Wi-Fi.
Wi-Fi: How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity

If these steps do not resolve the issue, please reply back with the exact error message received.

  • Can a Mac Pro (2.66 ghz duel core) be upgradable to support Thunderbolt displays and other devices.

Can a Mac Pro (2.66 ghz duel core (4cores)) be upgradable to support Thunderbolt displays and other devices. Does this need to be done through the Graphics card expansion or a additional card to be inserted?

No. There is no way to upgrade any Mac Pro older then the cylindrical 2013 Mac Pro to ThunderBolt.
The requirements of Thunderbolt require a totally redesigned motherboard and chip set rather any plugin cards. These motherboard were never developed for older Mac Pros.
