Those are not necessarily running. It's a list of previously opened apps for the most part. You can flick the cards upwards to get rid of them.

  • When I double click Home button, all of my apps don't show in the bar -- only the four that reside there. Did a reset last night to fix the Home button (it sort of works now) but now this. Any ideas on why I can't do the fast app switch now?

When I double click Home button to change apps quickly, only the four apps that reside on the task bar show. All of my apps would show prior to my reset of the iPad last night (to fix the Home button). Any ideas on how to fix?

My undertanding is that when you double-click the home button, the apps that are shown are those that are currently active.  The reason you are not seeing all of them is that not all of them are active.  Before you can access an app in the multitask bar, it has to be turned on first.  As a test, try accessing the Notes application.  Return to the home screen by clicking the Home button ONCE.  Once the home screen appears, double click the home button to bring up the multitasking bar.  The Notes app should be on the far left.

  • Safari icon has disappeared from my iPad. Will not show up even when I double click home button to show history.

When I opened my iPad today, the icon for Safari browser was gone. It is nowhere to be found; not even when I double click home to bring up recently used programs. I don't see any other ones that are affected this way. Any help will be appreciated.

  • IPhone 6 freezing when I double click home button.

It seems almost every time I double click the home button to bring up the multitasking window, my iPhone 6 freezes. I have iOS 8.1.2 and ATT. I have tried restoring from iTunes and from iCloud with no luck. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

    Hello pspnick,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like your phone keeps freezing, even after restoring. You might want to take a look at this page for further options.

  • Frequent LowMemory crash when starting multitasking by double-click Home button

After upgrading iOS 7, my iPhone 5 crashes when double-clicking home button for multitasking.
The crush shows white apple logo and reboots my iPhone.
It occurs about 2-3 times a day.
Every time crash occurs, Diagnostic & Usage Data would add a LowMemory log, which is exactly the time iPhone crashes.
Therefore I guess it's because of running out memory.
I've tried Reset My Phone, Reduce Motion, Disable Background App Fresh..., but none of it worked.
My iPhone begins to crash 3 days after resetting.
Does anybody know how to solve it?

    I think you mean crash.
Also, I am going to assume you've tried restarting and reseting. What you can do is back up the important information in your phone (using either iTunes or iCloud) and restore the device as new. Then, you can restore from your backup. This will remove any and all software bugs.

  • 3.1.3 double clicking home button when music is not playing

Is the bug that double clicking home button while music is not playing didn't bring up the iPod control fixed? For me, it seems definitely a bug since it doesn't give anything good. Clicking home button once already terminates the application, why would anyone use double clicking to exit the application too?
This is why I'm still using 3.0. Is this fixed in 3.1.3?

Jeong-hun Sin, 3.1.3 has the same issue, and I do not think Apple is ever going to fix this issue. They still haven't even fixed the live updating playlist sort order issue...
roaminggnome he's referring to a pop-up controls issue that has been talked about on this forum ever since the release of the 3.1 firmware.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2151438
In 3.0 and older versions, if you're in an app/game you can double-click the home-button to access the iPod pop-up controls to resume the playback of a song/podcast that had been previously paused/stopped.
In 3.1, if a song had been previously paused you cannot launch the pop-up conrols to resume the playback of the song. You're forced to exit the app that you might be in (lets say safari, or a game), and then resume playback using the music app.
Jeong-hun Sin, I upgraded to 3.1.3 a few days ago, and have found a few improvements:
    - Many 3D games are MUCH smoother/faster under 3.1.3, than 3.0. I downgraded back to 3.0 just to see if I was just imagining things, but games like Coconut-racer, and Asphalt 5 were not as smooth as they were under 3.1.3.
    - If you happen run apps that have live video streaming where the video playback controls do not appear (e.g the BBC world, Al Jazeera news, sure there's more), the iPod Touch no longer randomly reboots when using those apps.

  • After upgrading ipad to iOS 7.1 I can no longer close open apps by double clicking home button. Any other way to close open apps?

After upgrading ipad to iOS 7.1 I can no longer close open apps by double clicking home button.  Any ideas

Double-tap on the Home button. You will see a preview of the app above the actual icon. Slide the preview up to kill it.

  • 3.1.2 double clicking home button when music is not playing

Is the bug that double clicking home button while music is not playing didn't bring up the iPod control fixed? I don't know it's a design change or a bug, but for me it seems definitely a bug since it doesn't give anything good. Clicking home button once already terminates the application, why would anyone use double clicking to exit the application too?

It's a design change, not a bug. Although I do have to agree with you on that I preferred what double-clicking the home button originally did. There is even settings (in general settings if I can remember right) on what double-clicking the home button performs, but that isn't even an option on it.
And nope this is not fixed or redesigned in 3.1.2.
    Hope that answers your question,
    Enjoy!

  • Re ios7 update for ipad2. How do you stop all sites showing when you double click bottom button?

Re ios7 update - when I double click bottom button all sites visited come up as you scroll across screen. How can I ensure that no sites are shown or how do I delete sites visited?

Double clicking the Home button brings up multitasking. These are all the apps that are open in the background. You can close them by swiping the app preview page up to the top of the screen.
If you mean Safari websites, tap the tabs button (bottom right) and swipe each tab to the left to close them.

  • My new iphone 5 screen does not rotate from portrait to landscape.  It is stuck in portrait.  I checked and its not locked (double clicked home button scrolled over and the circle arrow does NOT  have lock inside it).

My screen refuses to rotate (the home screen).  I already double clicked home button and scrolled over, the circle arrow does NOT have the lock inside it.  I went thru all the settings and can find nothing to try and fix this.  Do I need to send the phone back?  Is it broken?  I just got it yesterday.  It has not been damaged in any way.  Please help.

The home screen doesn't rotate to landscape mode.  Only apps do.
Good eye Rob, I didn't even catch that.

    See if this fixes things.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

We have developed a desktop application using Flash software and published the same for MAC environment. When we double click on the index.app file, the application is working perfectly in Mac 10.6.7 at our office. But if the same index.app file is double clicked in Mac 10.6.7 at out clients location, its not opening. For your information the client is able to open this same application by double clicking on index.swf file. The main problem is that client is not able to open the application using index.app file at their office whereas we are able to do so at our office. Can anyone give some suggestions to sort this problem?

The most common reason is different versions of Flash, or different versions of web browsers used.  Some users may elect to not have Flash installed at all because of the processor overhead of Flash.  If you are going to make an application for a client, check what operating system and browser versions they are using first.  Then determine if a stand alone application is required, or if they have the necessary plugins to run specific browser enhanced code.
P.S. MAC is an acronym for Media Access Control.  Mac is the shorthand for Macintosh, the operating system and computers made by Apple Inc.
