When I double-click the tab bar, FF4 just resizes the window but does not open a new tab

When I double-click the Tab Bar, FF 4.0 just resizes the window but does not open a new tab. It happens when Menu Bar is disabled (not ticked).

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).<br />
See Troubleshooting extensions and themes and Troubleshooting plugins<br />
<br />
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.<br />
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.<br />
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")<br />

• When I click on the "new tab" button it does not open a new tab, how do I fix this?

Left clicking or right clicking on the new tab button does not open a new tab. Common fixes have been unsuccessful. I don't know what's wrong. It's a recent problem, and even though I'm using an older version of Firefox this hasn't been a problem before.

Try uninstalling the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and the current version of Firefox.

• Even if homepage is selected it does not open in new tab

even if homepage is selected it does not open in new tab.when i opened Firefox the previous website which i opened is coming .please give me answer.

I guess it is too much to ask your users to middle-click the Homepage button to get their Homepage in a new tab.
I don't think Mozilla is even interested in "Enterprise" any longer. The new Fast Release schedule for Firefox doesn't meet the needs of the corporate community for long term support, so I guess they aren't valued any longer. Mike Kaply has written about this situation repeatedly this year. <br />

• When right-clicking firefox in the task bar... v5 does NOT open a new tab, or open a new window when selected. Only crtl-N opens a new window iff Firefox is the active window.

Today FF 5.0 was DL-d and installed (automatic update is/was active). Help->About-> shows version 5.0, and there were no problems with the install.
I have ASUS G72 running W7 with the latest MS updates via auto-update.
FF is pinned to the task bar.
Previous version(s) allowed for opening new windows and tabs by right click of FF icon on task bar, and selecting "Mozilla FireFox" (which opened new window) , or selecting "Open New Window." Opening a new tab in the current session could be done by selecting "Open New Tab."
These features do not operate in the latest version (5.0), or have I fumbled the ball (by not having something set right in this version.
Thanks in advance for you help. Keep up the great work.

If you have tabs on top and no menu then the tabs are in a "Windows" area so there is no space to right. If you put tabs back to the bottom you will have most of your old behavior but because of the changes to tabs on top most of the tab context menu stuff all of the context menu part was lost except the customize toolbar stuff, double-clicking on an empty spot was restored, and eventually during the FF 4 beta most of the tab extensions Firefox messed up eventually worked again except in the area to the right of the tabs.
The Windows part of that double-click has to maximize or restore to normal,
and you have to be able to drag the window by it;'s title bar.

• Firefox does not open a new tab when you click the plus sign button which is actually a shortcut for opening a new tab. You have to open a new firefox window in order to get a new tab. Please help. Thanks.

I didn't have this problem before with Firefox. My kids must have pressed something or clicked on something that's the open new tab button does not function anymore. No matter how you click it, it doesn't open a new tab. Even if you click on file, then go to new tab, it still doesn't open a new tab. You have to open a new firefox window in order to do multiple browsing.
Hope you can help resolve this problem.
Sincerely,
Ems Guillarte

Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened. Checking your list of add-ons, the MyPlayCity toolbar is a version of the Ask toolbar.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
* Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
* Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

• When clicking bookmark, does not open a new tab

Just upgraded to Firefox 4.0.1. When I click on one of my bookmarks, it doesn't open a new tab but opens up in what ever tab I was in.

Default behavior is for Firefox to open a bookmark or link in the currently selected tab. There are some tab Add-ons that have an option to automatically open in a new tab.
To open a bookmark or link in a new tab you can do one of the following:
*middle-click the bookmark or link (middle-click = press the mouse scroll wheel)
*right-click the bookmark or link and choose "Open in a New Tab"
*Ctrl+left-click the bookmark or link

• The "open a new tab" button does not open a new tab.

The "open a new tab" button does not work. Neither does "file; new tab", or Control T. Can you please tell me how to fix this?

• Does not open in new tab

Just installed Safari 3.1 on a Windows XP Pro SP2 computer. Works fine except it does not open new links in a new tab as it is set in preferences. It will open in a new tab if you right click and select new tab, but should not have to do this.
Currently it opens in the same window. It seems to have changed since I first installed and set preferences, it was always opening a new window, now same window, same tab.

If you want to open a link (that is in a Safari web page) in a new tab, you need to hold <CTRL> when you click it (if you have it set that way in the "Tabs" section of the preferences).
You maybe confusing "Open links from Applications" (ie. links from an email program or the desktop, but not from inside Safari) in the "General" section of the preferences, with the settings in the "Tabs" section.

• Web page does not open in new tab as well as in that tab

as soon as i updated firefox version, there seems to be a problem in it. new link does not open up. in get stuck and even after refreshing it does not open up.

Hello DurgaPrasad, Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings, disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
Restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
*In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".<br>

• Safari 7.0 does not open a new tab or a link in a new tab

Hello,
since I updated to Mavericks, I'm not able to open a new tab (cmd + t) or open a link in a new tab (cmd + click) in safari. A soon as I try to open a new tab, safari "freezes" an I have to use the "back" button a few times to make it work again.
Is there a solution in the settings, or di I have to to delete and reinstall the app?
Thanks for your help!

Hey Linc Davis,
I just did that yesterday (in my case it was 'glims') and after deleting glims, Safari now is working perfect again.
Thanks a lot for your help!

• Apple+menu bookmark does not open a new tab

I'm running Safari 2.0.3 (417.9.3)
In a regular page, when I click apple+url link, it opens in a new tab, but
when from the bookmarks list I position over one and click apple+bookmark it opens on the same tab as if I would click the aplle key concurrently.
What's wrong?
Thank you for any tip.

Hi,
Nothing is wrong as such I'm afraid. The Apple+click will work for bookmarks directly on the toolbar, but it won't work for bookmarks nested within the drop-down folders you can place on the bookmark bar.
Safari has been this way for as long as I can recall despite many people complaining about the difference in functionality.
Send feedback to the Safari team about this via Safari menu -> Report Bugs to Apple...

• My menu bar is missing but when I right click in the top section and see all of the toolbars the menu bar has a check by it but does not appear. Hitting alt does not make it appear either...any ideas?

See above

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

• I cannot open a new tab - when I restart firefox (or my computer), ctrl T does not work, and the "+" tab next to the single tab on my browser window does NOT open a second tab

Firefox3.6.18, running on WinXP (all the Microsoft patches), opens with a single tab. Clicking the Add Tab "+" or pressing CTRL T does not open a new tab, although I can open a new window. Also, when exiting from Firefox, my tab location is not saved.

Please disable or uninstall the Ask toolbar extension to solve your problem. It has a known incompatibility with Firefox. See Uninstalling add-ons.

• I can only open one Firefox browser window. When I click the firefox icon from desktop or taskbar to open up another browser window it does not open. I am ablt to open up new tabs within the one window.

I can only open one Firefox browser window. When I click the firefox icon from desktop or taskbar to open up another browser window it does not open. I am ablt to open up new tabs within the one window.

Have you tried: click Firefox button > New Tab > New Window OR CTRL+N OR File > New Window (if using the Menu Bar)
Once open, Firefox locks the Profile that is in use and you can not open another window with that Firefox version and Profile combination using the Windows Desktop icon or the Windows Programs list.

• When i double click a photo in iphoto to edit, the screen goes black

when i double click a photo in iphoto to edit, the screen goes black.  I'm using 10.7.5 with iPhoto 9.4.2.  Can anyone help?

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
If none of these help:
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
