When I doubleclick an Indesign document, it won't open in Indesign
... and when I right click the document to instruct it to open in Indesign, Indesign doesn't appear on my program list; when I browse to the program icon in my program files, and select it, it still doesn't work.
I'm using Indesign CS3 on an XP Windows sytem.
You need to associate InDesign files with InDesign, so that Windows recognizes .indd, etc. as belonging to that app.
If yours is a fresh install, you might want to uninstall and be sure to reinstall ID with administrator privileges - if this step of installation got messed up, there might be others.
Otherwise, you'll find the association list in the Windows Explorer menus - you want to assign files with an extension of .indd to InDesign. (There are other file types you might want to associate as well - I'm sure the usual suspects will chime in here with those I've missed. :) )

my operating system is OS X Lion 10.7.5
Pages version 4.3
What I mean by 'cycles through documents" is that when I attempt to either open a document or just open the application - it looks like the application begins to start - I see the first page of a bunch of documents very quickly going from left to right on my screen but then I see a bar in the middle of the screen (I'm not sure what its called but its the one that tells you to wait while the computer does something) - and then it just stays there, never opening the documents.
My version of pages has always had the "cycling" effect at the beginning but it always ended quickly and I could begin working on my documents - now.... I can't begin working on anything and the only option I have is to force quit.

You could try downloading a program called Calibre. It is very good at converting files between formats. I use it all the time to convert PDF's from work to read on iTunes when I don't want to have to keep zooming in and out to read the actual text.
I know that iBooks will read PDF's but they can get pretty squashed down some times. Especially if the original font was small to begin with. So I run them through Calibre and then email them to my phone and open them in iBooks. -
Pages app unexpectedly quit whilst I was in the middle of a document. I can now not open it AT ALL. I find it's not just that particular document that won't open, but any of my Pages docs will not open using the current version of Pages. The reports of the app unexpectedly closing each time, automatically went to Apple, but I am not sure what happens with them then. Does anyone know how to help me with this? We live in a very isolated region so rely on internet help. Thanks
I also managed to read a few other discussions about Pages and files not being able to open. I actually went to the last back-up and restored the computer from that and everything seemed to work ok again, which is great!...advice from another discussion I think you may have been involved in PeterB. Thanks for the advice...also this advice, as I will make a note of trying to open using the Shift key if it happens again and see what happens...might be an easier first option than restoring from a back-up. Thans heaps for the help!
I was interested to read some of the other discussions where it was stated that Pages '09 seems to be a better option to use. I have both installed, so I will lkeep this in mind. Thanks heaps! -

Hi Jenny, I just had to do that, for the 3rd time. It is a pity though when one pays for such expensive software that this happens, specifically when the only Adobe help is to tell you to post your problem on a forum and hope someone can help you. Not good enough and not what I expected when I bought it. I am so disappointed in Adobe.

When I scan in color the PDF won't open.
When I scan a document in 24-bit color or in True Gray with either Adobe Reader 10.1.4 or 11.0.4 It gives me an error message saying I don't have permission to write to that folder. This happens no matter what folder I try to write to. It does create a file of the pdf scan but the file won't open; the error message says the file is damaged.
However if I scan in B&W or in Gray with Error Diffusion everything works fine.
This problem appeared suddently with no apparent cause.You may want to talk to whomever makes your scanning software. You don't "scan" with Adobe Reader. You simply use it to open files after the fact and it sounds like the scanner software is corrupting the files.

Document attachment won't open in pages
I have installed pages on my iPad 2 and when I am emailed a document, PDF,doc,ppt, I don't have the option to open it in pages. The only option I get it to print it. Shouldn't I be able to move into pages from my mail program?
If the document is a word doc (.doc) or a pages document (.pages) and you have properly installed Pages on your iPad, you should see an option to Open In... when you tap and hold.
You can't open .ppt documents unless you have Keynote installed
You can't open PDFs unless you have a PDF reader installed.
Since you have installed Pages on your iPad, and it isn't working, I would suggest trying two things:
1. Do a full shutdown and restart - double click your home button, tap and hold on one of the running apps icons until you see them all wiggle and offer a "-" badge, then tap each "-" badge to shut them down. Then click and hold the Home and Sleep Buttons until you see the shutdown slider - Shutdown. Wait a minute or so then restart your iPad. You will see the Apple Logo appear. When the iPad is restarted, open your Mail app and tap and hold on your email attachment and see what happens.
2. If that doesn't fix the problem (and the attachment is a .doc or pages document), the next step would be to do a full reset and restore, but try the first action before you get that far.
You might contact the sender to confirm the type of document you have received. Can't hurt. Sometimes things get corrupted - ask them to resend in a format that you can read. See the iOS iPad User Guide (found under the Bookmarks Icon in your Safari app) - see the section on Mail Attachments.
If you don't have Keynote or Numbers installed, I would recommend them or other apps that can read your email attachments such as OpenDocs, etc.
Also, if you don't have iBooks, it is worth the download.

Updated to latest version today and it won't
open now. Have rebooted numerous times, even did a restore to 5 days ago and nothing works. Did an undo on the restore, still nothing. Have used firefox for years with no problems.A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

My Itunes Library will not open at all. When I click on Itunes the icon spins and nothing will pull up.
Try resetting your device. Hold down the sleep and home keys, ignoring the red power down slider, and release the buttons when you see hte silver apple. Let it reboot and try again.
You won't lose any data, it's juat the apple equivalent of 'control/alt/delete' and often clears up glitches -
Word document links won't open in IE 9
I got a user who cannot open up a word document link in sharepoint online that should display a word dialog box basically in IE 9. When clicking, nothing happens even if pop up blocker is off, but he can access the word documents from the link in Firefox.
I also found out that I am able to open it up under my windows profile on that machine so it must be a corrupted windows profile.
I reset IE
Cleared cache
Verified in registry in class roots that .html is set to htmlfile
Anything I can do besides redoing the user's windows profile?

If I get an email reply, I won't be able to open it to get the answer. This just happened out of the blue. I can check the box to the left of the email, but when I try to open, delete, or put in stored mail, nothing happens.
Have you tried closing the app completely and seeing whether it works properly when you re-open it ? From the home screen (i.e. not with the scrabble apps 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
