When I download a program it always instals in German.
I can not do anything about it, the language used in the new program is always German.
It is like there is some setting which tells the the installation file that the application needs to be German.
Except when it is downloaded from the App Store.
I am Dutch and mostly I use English as a languge. I can read and speak German but I just do not want it as a languge in a program on my MacBook Pro
I do not want German as a language. So how can I take care of this problem.
Any ideas?

The preferred language on my computer is Dutch. And yes that is what is on top.
There is no other in the list.
Some applications I prefer in English like Photoshop.
It is with third party applications, not App Store or Adobe, but with something like MS Office.

If your computer is running an OS X prior to Snow Leopard 10.6,
the answer (if it is an Intel-based Mac; not old PowerPC model)
would be to buy the retail Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD from Apple
for about $20, and install it. Then update that to 10.6.8 by using
the installed Snow Leopard online to get Combo Update v1.1 for
Snow Leopard 10.6.8. After that is installed & updated, run the
system's Software Update again, to see what else is available to
that system.
Later systems can then be looked into at Mac App Store, once
the computer is running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
And if your computer is a Power PC (G4/G5, etc) and has no
Core2Duo kind of CPU -- See "About this Mac" in apple menu
to disclose the general info about your Mac. Also you can see
even more by clicking on "More Info" when looking in there...
If it isn't an Intel-based Mac, it can't run a system past 10.5.8.

How do I delete a toolbar that was added when I downloaded a program?

I am using Firefox 7.0.1 and Microsoft Windows XP Professional Ver. 2002 Service Pack 3. I would like to delete (get rid of NOT hide only) a toolbar that was downloaded to Firefox when I downloaded a program to print internet coupons. The toolbar is called shopathome.com.
I have read your article about deleting toolbars, but this solution only applies to toolbars that you add for Firefox buttons. I have not found other articles that talk about deleting downloaded toolbars.
I want to delete this toolbar because it is slowing down Firefox since it continuously monitors the sites I visit and it displays offers for coupons or other stuff from this site.
Is there a way to get rid of this toolbar? If not, would reinstalling Firefox fix the problem? Thank you.

The odds are that you downloaded AirPort Utility 5.6.1.....which will only work with Leopard and Snow Leopard Macs.
Since your post indicates that you are using Lion 10.7.4, you need the correct utility for Lion. The link is below:

What are the icons that appear on the desktop when I download a program?

OK, new to the Mac so please be gentle with me!
I've downloaded some programs on my Macbook Pro. The .dmg file appears and I click on it to install the program. However, there is an icon placed on the desktop for the program, as well as it appearing on the launch bar. What are these icons for, and can I delete them without affecting the program?
Also, I'm trying to install HTC Sync for my phone but when I run the install, I get the message "HTC Sync Manager can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer. Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers." How do I clear this and run the program?
As I say, new to the Mac so be gentle with me.

Why do so many downloaded Adobe programs fail to install???

I have downloaded two programs (paid for), Adobe Premiere 8 and Lightroom 3 on two different computers with Windows 7 64 bit. On each of them I get the same error message when I try to install: "A problem occurred while extracting some files. Check available space on your computer and the write privileges on the destination folder." This is absurd. I have 500GB free on the drive and there are no write problems when installing other programs. Why are Adobe programs screwing up?

We need more information, can you provide the URL for the download so we can look at the specifications. If it isn't designed to run in OS X then that is your problem.

I can't find my Favourites on Firefox, where is the icon? I imported all my favourites when I downloaded the program.

When I did the download it gave me the option of importing all my saved websites from Windows. However once the Mozilla opened up I couldn't find the icon to open up my Favourites. Without proper system info and exact error messages we can't tell you anything. Update blockages can have all sorts of causes. The blindfire advise is to simply start over after running the cleaner tool, making sure to not botch it again by using a different order to update the individual apps...

I have 18.0.2 and when the download loaded and attempted to install it crashed my computer badly. When will this be fixed?

I am afraid to continue using Firefox because of the severe crash that occurred. It took a long time to recover and I was afraid that I was not going to recover. Windows came up in safe mode and did a lot of searching and and finally fixed the problem. I am running Windows 7x64 on an i5 machine with 8 gig of memory.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then best is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
