I need help. When I download the ios 3.1 software update to my first generation ipod touch, I click download and i says it will be done in 30 minutes dont disconnect ect... Usually when i download something my ipod flashes download and it shows the time left on the top of itunes. Nothing happens today and it just stays on the instructions page. When I hit done it takes me to the appstore on my mac! HELP!!!!!

- I would start with the following unless you revoed and reinstall all Apple software, not just iTunes:
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
- New cable and different USB port
- Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

I have an ipod touch (1st generation) and now while I'm looking for my update to iOS 3.1 for the most current, seeking the support of Apple. I found an article talking about buying an upgrade for the iPod touch iOS 3.1 Software (1st generation) then decided to buy. That afternoon, I bought it, but so far so I can not download update. I receive a email informing me of my purchase, but when I'm redirected to the download page. I click on start downloading, but nothing happens. I wanted someone who went through this to help me, because I wanted this update!

Well first off you shouldn't have had to pay for a download (just an assumption from the word "purchased".
If you are trying to install iOS 5 on your iPod touch, it won't work they arent compatible. I suggest checking what version of software you are trying to install and posting it in this forum so people can have a better understanding. -

Now that iOS is consistently being updated. Will the 1st Generation IPad be stuck with IOS 5? Eventually my IPad will be good for nothing as Apps start requiring the updated software.
The iPad 1 can only be updated to iOS 5.1.1. This is unlikely to change.
The apps you have will continue to work and there are still many apps which run on iOS 5 (or even earlier iOS levels). -
