When I download .pdf files from my office they are converted to .ashx files

When I download a .pdf file from my Outlook mail box at my office, Firefox reads it as an .ashx file. However if I use Safari, it is read correctly as a .pdf file.
How can I fix my Firefox browser?
An IT person at my office said I should reset the download actions by deleting mime.Types.rdf, but I can't even find this file.

I finally figured it out! On the book page of itunes I went to preferences and then import settings and changed the settings from aac to mp3 and when I went back to the page there was my itouch and clicked on it and then books and there were all my books and files! deleted 3 chapters that were greyed out and transfered them again and it worked. I'm using Elements 13 on a PC running Windows 8.1. Each time I open a CR2 RAW file from a Canon Powershot G10 it displays in black and white. The image transferred to Elements is still in black and white. Why can I not see the image in colour?

Try holding down your Alt or Option key. The Cancel button in the Raw dialog will change to Reset.
Click on that Reset, and hopefully it goes back to defaults.

Cannot delete files from TC because they are in use?

Hi all, I have converted (SmartConverter) some avi files to my ITunes, now I am trying to remove/delete the old avi files from my Time Capsule but my Imac informes me that this is not possible because the avi files are in use. The last is not the case, at least no by me, and even after a re start I am getting the same messages. even avi files that are not converted are giving me troubles. Before the system says they are in use I am getting a message saying that the files cannot be moved to the bin. I have looked on the net for an solution but without any real luck. I hope somebody can assist me with this. Thanks Prond.

Figured it out... I used the terminal application/utility and was able to get the files off of my time capsule...

I guess my simplest solution is to use Safari for viewing PDF's untill adobe sort out the plug-in issue. Bit of a pain but not quite worlds end!
Just a thought, isn't OX10.8 supposed to be able to read PDF's by itself?

Stopping ZIP Files from Uncompressing before they are sent by Email

I zipped a large powerpoint presentation (26MB) using archive. Worked well. Fille down to 633k. Want to send the file via entourage. When I attach the compressed file it uncompresses. Not good. I changed the preferences panel in entourage (compose: compression) but it does not keep the file uncompressed when it is attached. It remains compressed on the computer.
What can I do to send the file in it's compressed form?

When sending email photo's from my Ipad2, they are received "sideways"

I have contacted Apple support via telephone (I have extended warranty) and they can't answer. When I try to send an email photo directly from my Ipad2, the recipient gets it sideways. This is something new. I have sent lots of photo's in the past without difficulty. Apple says that the problem must be with my Server (Comcast). Comcast says that they do not support third party devices. This makes the fast emailing photo convenience unusable, as far as I'm concerned. I feel there must be some kind of setting that is screwed up, but if Apple can't help me and Comcast won't, I'm dead in the water. Has anyone else experienced this problem and had it resolved?

I just got a "partial" resolve to my Ipad email picture problem that I posted yesterday, from my son, that I thought I would share. It's not an ideal remedy but it does work. He told me to take the picture using the horizontal mode and to keep the "home button" on the right side. It works. If you take the picture with the home button on the left, it is received by the recipient, upside down. If you take the picture vertically with the home button up OR down, it comes in sideways. Wouldn't you think that the Apple technician might have at least suggested this to me yesterday instead of telling me it was a Comcast problem?

Mavericks 10.9.1. Freezes or trackpad becomes slow and unresponsive when viewing downloaded PDF files in Preview.Help!

The earlier post was my first attempt at posting and had some typos. Repeated with typos corrected.
I have a Macbook Pro Retina 13" Late 2013 with preinstalled Mavericks.I now have the 10.9.1 update. Almost from the time of purchase in Nov '13, I have been experiencing freezes and slow & unresponsive trackpad. I have more or less narrowed this symptom as happening when viewing downloaded PDF files. The only option is to force eject, if available or shut down. I spoke to Support as I thought it was a RAM issue and they told me that in Mavericks RAM showing almost full was normal as it uses RAM differently. They took me through some resets and cleaning up which has helped a little but freezing stll happens. This never happened with my Macbook AIr running Lion. Any suggestions?

So a PDF file that you can view in Preview on your MBA causes your new MBP to lock up and/or slow down. Is this right? Also you say more or less narrowed down to PDFs with Preview but does the computer exhibit this behavior with other programs and if so under what conditions? And how much free hard drive space do you have?
Viewing memory use in Mavericks is different than with previous versions of the OS. Today it looks like we need to pay attention to what Apple calls Memory Pressure which is gauged by the bar graph in Activity Monitor and to the Virtual Memory being used. When the memory pressure graph bar gets too high it turns red and that's bad news. Looking at how much memory is being used doesn't help - I have a 16GB computer and with almost nothing running it still shows something like 15.79GB used but the memory pressure graph is just a think green line. So unless you see the memory pressure bar turning red lets not worry about memory usage at the moment.
If among the things AppleCare had you do was reinstall Mavericks then I recommend a trip to the Apple store - and take a problem PDF file with you to demonstrate.

from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste (command-V) into the text box that opens, then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
I've seen an unconfirmed report that the "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you might need to remove it as well, if applicable.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

I have used Print to PDF from the File Menu in Office many times. Normally it works fine, but for whatever reason, in MS Excel 2010, I have one file that will not Print.
It allows me to select the Adobe Printer and save location, and when I hit "Print" it shows a dialog box for about 1/2 a second, but no progress meter, and the file isn't created. All other files work fine except this one - there aren't any security measures or special attributes in the file, it just doesn't physically create the PDF.
Any thoughts on how to resolve? I have tried rebooting both Excel as well as the Laptop several times.

For work I need to be able to download PDF's from a particular website. It utilizes the Adobe Reader but when I try to download a PDF, it doesn't do anything. I tried to download the "Adobe Reader" from the website but it says that I do not hav the system requirements to do so. This problem started after they did the Adobe update. I have the same problem. Or similar. A few weeks ago, i installed Adobe reader (because i had a pdf attachment that was unreadable in Preview, so i wanted to try Adobe to see if that would work; it didn't work). Since then, i can't open PDF files on the web. I get a black screen or sometimes a white one. and i can sometimes open them indirectly, if there is the option on the link. I thought this problem started after i deleted Adobe however. I'm not sure because i wasn't expecting this problem and am not exactly sure the sequence of when things happened, but i wanted to delete Adobe reader because i had no use for it. Unfortunately, they didn't provide an uninstaller. I put the application in the trash and whatever else was in the folder, and emptied the trash, but got a lot of messages about various files not being able to be deleted because they were in use. I think it was since then that i can't open PDF files. Never had a problem before getting involved with Adobe Reader. Anyway, as far as your answer goes, i have already deleted as much of it as i can.
Any other suggestions? i downloaded the Adobe installer to reinstall it if that's what it takes. i need to be able to open PDF files.

Ok, and is this on your Mac in the native Mail application, or on your Mac using iCloud webmail at http://www.icloud.com/ in a web browser? If the latter, which web browser?
When you say you "can't download" - do you actually mean download and save to your hard drive as a file, or do you mean you can't view PDFs inside the mail application?
What happens exactly when you try to download/view these PDFs? Any error message?

OFFICE 365 is a cloud version of OFFICE 2013. Full compatibility with Acrobat requires an updated Acrobat XI. You will likely have to store the file and then open in AA 9. To create a PDF you will have to print to the Adobe PDF printer or use the MS plugin that has several issues.

You will never be able to open your raw files from your new camera in CS4.
You need version 8.7.1 of the Camera Raw plug-in (ACR), which only runs in CS6 and higher.
You need to locate, download, install and run the free, stand-alone application Adobe DNG Converter on each batch of raw files from that camera, in order to convert them to raw DNG files that can be subsequently opened by ACR in CS4.
Remember you need to launch and run the DNG Converter on each folder (not files) containing your Canon raw files. THe DNG Converter doesn't do it magically for you just sitting on your HD.
Or you can upgrade.
