When I drag photos into iMovie, the image quality is degraded.  Can I somehow prevent the degradation?

Hi
A very common origin to jumpy picture is
• Recorded material in one frame rate e.g. 29.97fps (NTSC) and iDVD set to do a 25fps (PAL) project - OR the other way around.
It delivers a DVD but a very bad one.
I do convert all my material to same fps as the DVD I want to do (e.g. PAL) - before any editing etc.
I use JES_Deinterlacer or Compressor to do this and the result is so much better.
JES_Deinterlacer is free on Internet and makes a Great job - Professional alternatives comes at an astronomical cost and the quality is not hardly no better.

  • Do you know if it's possible on an iPad to set the image quality/size or do we just have the one size - the photos I've taken work out at approx 8 x 6cm @300ppi - not that big!

Do you know if it's possible on an iPad to set the image quality/size or do we just have the one size - the photos I've taken, work out at approx 8 x 6cm @300ppi - not that big!

    8cm * (1 in/2.54cm) * 300 dpi = 944 pixels (should be 1280 if this is the back camera)
    6cm * (1in/2.54cm) * 300 dpi = 708 pixels (should be 720 if this is the back camera)
The back camera on iPad 2 is 1280x720 = 0.92Mp.  No way to increase that.

  • Trying to drag photo into iMovie project, It shows the correct picture in the time line but plays the adjacent picture in the viewer ?

trying to drag second set of photos into project. It shows the correct picture in the time line but plays the adjacent, previously imported, picture in the viewer

I notice that in the photo then has a tick in top left corner.
Please describe in other words - or add a screen photo so that I get it.
Howto trash the iMovie pref files - they are two or more.
    • Delete iMovie pref. file
    iMovie pref. file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
and is named. (one or more of these)
    com.apple.iMovie.plist
    com.apple.iMovie3.plist
    com.apple.iMovie7.plist
    com.apple.iMovie8.plist
    com.apple.iMovie9.plist
    com.apple.iMovieApp.plist
    and find
    com.apple.iApps.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this/these file/s out on to desk-top.
    Now restart iMovie.
If You run Mac OS X.7 or more - then the Library in the User-account folder is invisibly and need to be set to be viewable. IT IS NOT in the Library on Root level (when opening MacintoshHD - first window = root level)
( It can be done like this: Open Terminal, then enter: chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press return, then restart, and it will always be visible until the next major update, when you do the same thing again. )

  • Dragging photos into iMovie '08 quit working

I have been working on making a movie that is basically a slide show with music using iMovie '08. I drag the picture into place from iPhoto and all was going well until this morning.
When I drag the photo, it looks like it'll work, but bounces back into the iPhoto window. Even if I try to drag a photo that work yesterday, same problem. All photos are .jpg
HELP!!! I need to finish before my daughter's wedding next week!

When things go wrong with iMovie (any version), the first thing I would try is to delete (trash) iMovie's preference file. It's in your User>Library>Preferences folder and is named "com.apple.iMovie.plist" or similar. With iMovie '08 the name is probably "com.apple.iMovie7.plist". If not look for any .plist file containing the iMovie name. The '09 version uses iMovie8 in the .plist name. Be sure to close iMovie before trashing the .plist file.
Don't worry, when next opened iMovie will create a new version with the default settings. You may need to change some settings to suit your own preference.
The preference file can sometimes become corrupted, causing iMovie to behave oddly.

  • Dragging photos into imovie

scanned photos show up in my library but imovie won't allow me to drag them in. any ideas?

What format are they in? Try converting them to JPEG. You can do this in the Preview app.

  • My image keeps on having quality loss when it gets imported into iMovie!

I'm having a problem with iMovie. I'm stying to import an HD image for use in an intro. The image was made in Photoshop. It has a gradient in the background. When I drag it into iMovie, it looks weird. I have 2 links below. The top one is how it is supposed to look. The bottom one, is how it looks in iMovie. How can I fix this?

    http://i342.photobucket.com/albums/o415/basstone97/Picture1-2.png
I'm not worried about the size, I know how to export it as HD, but the quality is REALLY bad, and I can't have that. Any help?
P.S. I'm planning on uploading it to youtube.
    Thanks,
    -Matt

you are working with some very special material.. concerning video making and compression:
your logo (nice artwork!) contains grey gradients..
grey is a difficult color, when you have to mix it out of R G B.. (=grey is not a 'bright black', but a color in video...)
and you have these gradients.. imagine to build a circle with 8pin LEGO-bricks.. that gets.. 'steppy'
    I made a test:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4brblWLAS7c
shows the low-quality video.. indeed, 'steps'..
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4brblWLAS7c&hd=1
    shows the HQ-version..
imho, the HQ version is acceptable, keeping in mind that this is a huge video, streaming thru a thin wire.. ;)))
I dare to say, it doesn't get any better..

  • Why does an image size 6x6 240 print out 6.25x6.25 when I drag it into a new file 24x7  240?  When I print it before I drag it into the new file it prints out 6x6.

Why does an image size 6x6 240 print out 6.25x6.25 when I drag it into a new file 24x7  240 image size?  If I print it before I drag it into the 24x7 240 file it prints 6x6.

What is the number 240 meant to indicate here – the resolution? If so please also give the unit.
And what are your printer and the print settings you use, could there be any scaling involved in the printing itself?

  • Help! can't drag photos into or within imovie

I have a couple hundred pictures in imovie already.  everything was working fine, and now I am unable to drag photos into the project.  it shows the green line and the plus sign as if its adding it but nothing happens.  it has been freezing and i have tried restarting it which worked initially but not anymore.  I can add music and videos, just not pictures. I also realized that I cannot drag the photos around within the project now. I have to present this on Monday! I make a slideshow/movie every year and this is a brand new MacBook so I can't believe I am having problems when my old computer worked fine!

    Any of the Following:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
    *For Users of 10.5 Only*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    *For users of 10.4 and 10.5* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
    Regards

  • Photos get blurry when I bring them into iMovie.

When ever I bring any of my photos (full res. from my canon 5D 12 mega pixel or high res neg scans) into iMovie they look horrible. They just get blurry.
Whats the deal. I know the images or tac sharp. If I tether my camera to my TV and view them, they look great. Put them in imovie 2, 4, or 5...they look bad. whats the deal?

delongt, there are tons of topics here discussing image quality in all versions of iMovie. Try using the forum's search function to search for words like "blurry", "jaggies", etc. You'll find lots of useful information, including how to avoid a bug or two that affects the quality of the DVD you burn.
It's important to realize that iMovie NEVER shows you all the image quality that's actually there. (iMovie is a video editor, not a video player.) So don't judge the quality by what you see in iMovie.
That said, ALL images imported to iMovie are converted to Digital Video. They are no longer high-res images, so they won''t look as good as the originals. They are considerably better than what you see displayed in iMovie, however.
The important consideration is not how they appear in iMovie, but how they appear on a TV, playing the DVD you burn of the project. Everything else you can pretty much ignore.

  • I imported videos from photo into iMovie when I set up iMovie (obvious mistake) and now iMovie doesn't work properly, nor can I move specific videos into a folder where I want them. How do I fix this?

I imported videos from photo into iMovie when I set up iMovie (obvious mistake) and now iMovie doesn't work properly, nor can I move specific videos into a folder where I want them. How do I fix this? I even tried deleting iMovie, bought a new copy and installed it, but the folder "iPhoto Videos" is still there and I can't get new clips loaded to iMovie, especially where I want them. Please help.

The iPhoto Videos do occasionally have problems. I've seen a lot of people write messages to this Discussion group describing similar problems. The only thing that seems to get around this problem is to pull the video clips out of iPhoto then import them directly into iMovie. Once the troubles with iPhoto Videos starts, I haven't yet seen anyone write back with something that they did to fix it.
The most difficult part of doing this is the movies in iPhoto might be a little difficult to track down. But you can create a smart alum that does that for you. Go to iPhoto > File Menu > New Smart Album:
Set the first pulldown menu to keyword, second to contains, then in the last box type Movie with a capital 'M'. Then click OK. This smart album more or less does as search of the whole iPhoto Library and only displays items that match your search tearm of "Movie" exactly. In that smart album then you can find the original Movies you want to move out of iPhoto and into iMovie, <CTRL> click on the Movie clip, then choose Reveal in Finder. That will jump you out of iPhoto temporarily and into the iPhoto Library folder. From there you can move that movie file to the desktop. Move all the clips you want, once they're all collected up go to iMovie and go to the File Menu > Import Files. Then point it to the desktop where you moved your video clips.
This will put all those videos into an Event folder in iMovie and bypass iPhoto Videos altogether.

Hey Sierra, You can do just what you have stated. My question, what is your "other"? If it is over 1.5 GB you most likely have corrupt files. Doing a Restore to New, Factory restore should correct it. Just make sure you make a full backup of all information on your iPod to your computer before you restore, so you don't lose your stuff, contacts, videos, pictures, non-iTunes music, etc, use the cable and connect with your computer. Then, via cable, connect to your computer, run the Restore to new, don't use your backup. Treat this iPod as if it was your first one ever. When restore is done, set up and add what info you wish to install on this iPod. The music apps etc you purchased should be on your computer, if not you should be able to retrieve purchased apps and music from iTunes. Any music, videos, apps not purchased from iTunes will be lost to you if you do not save them to your computer or the cloud first. When your done, make a current Backup and you should good to go. Hope this helps. Good luck. Cheers.

  • Hi all, when I open a New Tab pg all the images are blank - I've tried clicking on the blank images, & dragging a link from the Bookmarks, without success!

I want to achieve at least one of two things: either set New Tabs to open with Google automatically; or at least, to have Google pinned to the New Tab page. (Google is my home page.) When a new page opens, all the images are blank. I've read through the Help pages & tried various things. I've tried dragging Google from the Bookmarks to the New Tab, but this only opens Google. I've tried clicking on the blank images, but nothing happens. I've toggled the blank images off for now, so at least I don't need to look at them. I am doing a university course online, so efficiency is really important to me! Those extra clicks really add up & distract!... Thanks in advance :)
