When I edit my RAW format images I cannot find the resulting jpeg image in my IPhoto library

When I edit my RAW images (.neff format) I cannot the resulting jpeg image in my IPhoto 11 library.

Thanks. So it is probably worth upgrading to Aperture?
And you say that because? While Aperture has more features and more capabilities than iPhoto - especially in working with RAW - this is not one - depending on what yo do with previews in Aperture it may be even more difficult to use the edited photos incorrectly - iPhoto is simple - just correctly access the edited photo as TD suggested
To access the resulting jpeg you can export in any format except Original, drag to the desktop or use a media browser
Same same for Aperture

  • Re: RAW format images in Aperture

I am STILL having problems displaying RAW format images in Aperture 3.1.2, they turn almost monochrome dark green after fully loading. No one seems to have an answer. Have seen a few postings on mac blog sites but no answers to the problem, so its not just me ! iPhoto does not have this problem, but would like to use the other editing facilities on Aperture. Am using a Sony A550, which IS on the Apple list of supported cameras !
Don't want to have to buy yet another photo editing software.

That definitely sounds like a bug, but I don't use that camera to be able to have a second (or is it third? ) verification of the problem.
Have you checked the console log to see if Aperture is choking on something? Not sure you'd be able to do anything with that information, but it might lead somewhere.
Other than that, the only thing I can suggest is including your camera model and "RAW" in the subject of a new post. I'm pretty sure the problem is with your camera's RAW format, as opposed to being a general Aperture problem. Maybe a more direct query would help get a better answer?

Bridge is just a file browser.  It does not contain any photos inside the application itself.  Bridge will see and display your photos wherever you put them.
You cannot "transfer the edited images to Bridge".  That is wholly nonsensical.  Just use Bridge to navigate to your image files, wherever you put them.

    Greetings,
Hm. I've never seen that in iCal.  In some other Applications the tilde "~" indicates a restore point or a before / after for a file.  My guess is there is a broken cache file in iCal.
    Try:
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Language & Text > Formats > Region. Region should be set to the country of your choice. Do not have it set to "Custom" as this can have unexpected results in the iCal window.
If that doesn't resolve the issue:
    1. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
--- NOTE: To get to "Home > Library" in Lion: Click anywhere on the desktop and then click on the "Go" menu at the top of the computer screen while holding down the "option" key on the keyboard.  You will see "Library" in the menu.
    4. Launch iCal and test.
    If the issue persists:
    1. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
--- NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
    3. Launch iCal and test.
    Hope that helps.

No, that only means, that your raw format has a better compression. Converting to TIFF will not add any better resolution. Not the file size does count for better prints, but the pixel size - the width and height of the photo in pixels.

  • When I edit a song in itunes (i.e change the year) on purchased songs, the next time I return to itunes, the information has reverted back to the original information. How can I change that?

When I edit a song in itunes (i.e change the year) on purchased songs, the next time I return to itunes, the information has reverted back to the original information. How can I change that?
When I purchase ITunes music, and it is a song from a Greatest Hits album, the Year of the song shows the year the CD was released and not the year the song was released (i.e. a song may be from 1986, but the Greatest Hits album was released in 1999, so my songs in ITunes show 1999).    So, I go into each of those songs and change it to the year that I want to be displayed. As long as I don't exit out of ITunes, it will show the year that I changed it to (i.e. the 1986 year in this case). But if I exit out of ITunes and then return to ITunes, the year reverts back to 1999. The same happens if I change the genre of a song from, say 'Pop' to 'Alternative', it will revert back the next time I log in.
Oddly enough, as soon as I right-click on that song to change it back, the year/genre that I had entered returns.
How can I make it so my changes are permanently displayed as I want them?  This is pretty annoying when I try to find a song on my Ipod under a certain genre, but it doesn't appear in that genre because the incorrect information gets synched to the Ipod.

Make sure that these two options in Edit > Preferences > Store are turned off:
Then exit iTunes and open it up again.  Your metadata entries should then be persistent - with these options checked iTunes will be comparing what you have with the information held in the iTunes Store, and will overwrite with the latter for Store purchases (and if you have iTunes Match).  If you have any iOS devices you should also turn off Show All Music under Settings > Music.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Upgraded to iPhoto 6 and lost link to images/photos in iPhoto Library

I just installed a 160 GB hard drive (70GB free) and iLife06 upgrade on iMc G5 with 768 MB. When I ran iPhoto it shows all original folders and rolls but thumbnails are blank and exclamation mark in edit mode and no images found. My iPhoto Library folder is in finder>picture and contains 6000 photos with original, data, modified, recovered and Library6.iPhoto folders among others. I have tried Apples recommended iPhoto Library rebuilding recommendations without success. I am trying to restore to original configuration to keep all past iDVD slides shows and videos active and working. I installed the larger hard drive and iLife because iLife04 iPhoto kept crashing when opening. I thought I needed more hard drive capacity and iLife06 advertised ability to handle greater number of photos. Please help, I have tried everything I found on discussions.

    CK:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. To see if the database file is readable use iPhoto Library Manager. If it can see the slideshows, rolls, etc. than there's a chance rebuilding the library with iPLM can save them. If iPLM cannot access the library then I'm afraid the dB file is damaged beyond recovery. If you have to start afresh here's a possible way you might be able to recover the keywords. Check in the library and see if clicking on a keyword will bring up, even though they are blank, a specific set of photos. If so then you can try to follow Tutorial #1 to write the keywords back to the actual original files. Then do the following:
1 - move the old iPhoto Library folder to the desktop.
2 - launch iPhoto and create a new library.
3 - drag the "Originals" folder from the old library folder into iPhoto's open window.
This will generate a new library with the same rolls as were in the old library. Some of the roll dates may be changed however. The keywords will be retained if Tutorial #1 worked.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against future iPhoto database corruption that you and many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

Did you do the moving of the image file in the Finder or do you have a reference library as asked by Larry? In either case moving the files is a recipe for disaster as you've found out. You must either move the files back to their original locations or try to get those photos back into iPhoto as follows:
1 - Find the folder you moved the files into and COPY it to the Desktop.
2 - in iPhoto delete the photos that you're having the problems with as you normally would even though you can't see see them. Also delete all the photos that are in the folder you moved the other files into.
3 - drag the folder on the Desktop into iPhoto to import them as one event. If you get a duplicate warning I'd let it import the duplicate and use Duplicate Annihilator to find them so you can cull out the duplicate you don't want.
Other than that you might have to start over from scratch as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
1 - Move the existing library folder to the desktop
2 - Open the library package like this.
3 - Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
4 - Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.

  • Error message "The system cannot find the file specified." when reinstalling C3180 drivers

    Hello,
I experienced scanning problems with my C3180 and the error message indicated several solutions, including to reinstall the driver.
I worked my way through the list of fixes to this option.  I uninstalled the drivers, downloaded
    File name:
    AIO_CDA_NonNet_Full_Win_WW_130_140.exe [1/1, 290.27M]
from www.hp.com/support and attempted to install.
Just after the accept licensing screen, the system begins a screen with four steps, the first of which is Checking System.  Shortly after starting this, I receive the error message "The system cannot find the file specified.".  The file name may be in the message header, but I cannot determine it due to the path length.  It is off the displayed screen.  (see screen image capture)
Closing the pop-up error message or clicking OK terminates the installation.
