When I exit firefox it closes the program but it gets stuck in memory so when I open it again i have to kill the process in task manager, and it can be right away or I can come back a few hours later and its still stuck in task manager, I am tired of having to kill the processes every time I use firefox.

Hi, I was watching a program and suddenly the screen disappears I can hear the program but cannot seem to get back to the screen. My only option is to force quit and try again, I have done this several times and I still keep experiencing the problem can anyone help?

Using firefox 7.0.1 in Win XP (SP3), firefox.exe still runs after I exit and I have to end this process in task manager in order to get Firefox to run again. Fix?

I tried exiting Firefox using the File|exit menu item or just killing the window and (of course) re-booting the computer to see if that fixes the problem. Is this perhaps an incompatibility between the latest version of Firefox and Windows XP? (I do not have a problem like this on my Win 7 Professional (SP1) machine.)

I had a similar problem recently and using the "more like this" feature I discovered an answer. To a problem posed by Holo7, who like myself was a newbie on this platform, b noir proposed a solution to Holo7's problem that also worked with my problem. It involves downloading a version of MS Windows Instal Cleanup and using it to completely remove all traces of the old version.
If you look at my problem (follow OldGit66) and the link to Holo7's problem then you will find b noir's answer which I think may help you. I am new around here so you might want to wait for one of the higher status correspondents.

So I downloaded this app from the internet. I didnt buy the full program. I took the trial program. I do not like it and want to delete it. Ive tried dragging it to the trash and I also tried to delete it from my applications folder. However now I'm getting a message that the program is open so I can not delete it. Click the Apple icon and choose Force Quit. Find the name of the program you're trying to delete and force quit it. Now you should be able to throw it out.

Firefox 7 hangs a whole lot in the past several weeks. I can hardly get through typing an email without it freezing and making me have to kill the program and start over.

I am using firefox 7, windows 7 pro, 64 bit machine.
If I am typing an email I never know if I can finish because it often freezes and I cannot get the mouse to do anything. I have to hit "control-alt-delete" and stop firefox and sometimes the process and then start over. Also firefox is consuming a lot of cpu resources
(over 110,000k and sometimes near 200,000k). Is that normal?

Ok, I finally managed to get rid of it.
First I did the thing with the about:config but I flitered for imesh instead and managed to reset two thing but when I got to the keyword.URL I got the same thing as lolbabe98 did with the "An attempt to change your search engine or homepage was blocked."
Then I did a search on my C: drive for iMesh and discovered some things that hadn't been removed even though I had unistalled both the toolbar and the actual program. After that it worked fine and I now have a regular "untitled" tab when I open a new tab.
One last thing, when I tried to remove some of the files there was one that said it was in use, it was called datamanagerUI or something rather. The only thing I had to do there was to open Task Manager and kill a process called DATAMN~1 and I was able to remove it. Hope this helps.

I have the same problem - every time I close firefox (using either the red x or by selecting file ---> exit) the program appears to close normally, but the firefox.exe *32 process continues to run. If I try to re-open firefox normally I get a message that the program is still running and I need to go into task manager and manually kill the process.
I could also kill the process from the command prompt, but both of those methods are slow and annoying. This issue has only been occurring for the last 24 hours or so; to the best of my knowledge I haven't downloaded any new software or updated any plug-ins that would have caused a switch from firefox's normal awesomeness. Norton doesn't show any new viruses or other nastiness on my computer.

History menu, if it was destroyed in the last session
then use "Restore Previous session:" and then restore all windows also from the history menu.
If done in this session try the restore all windows under the history menu.

How do you updated CS5 extended when you keep getting a message to close the program but the program is already closed? I have tried to do the update when I first turn the computer on, go directly to Photoshop, go to update and click on that, get new screen, close Photoshop, and I still get a message to close the already closed program. I believe I have to open Photoshop to get to the update area, so I don't know how to get around this issue. I hope someone can help me.

Something fishy going on with those particular files. But without looking at them directly I couldn't say what. Usually in a case like this the problem is some of the metadata that is attached to the file. Where did these files come from? A camera, a scanner, the internet?
An explanation about the Watched Folder function: It looks for changes to a folder, not just automatically grabbing whatever files are in it. Generally, you want to select an empty folder as a Watch Folder. Once this has been set up, as you add files to this folder they will be imported into the Organizer. If you start with a folder full of images, those will be ignored, any new items will be added.

How do I Auto-erase downloads when I exit Firefox? I don't want downloaded files accumulating endlessly on my hard drive - but I do want to keep history and autocomplete info.

With all due respect to my colleague Morbus, the way I read the OP's request is that he ''wants'' to automatically delete the actual file that he downloaded through Firefox when he closes Firefox, while retaining the download history of those files. That is diametrically opposed to how Firefox has always worked, and I haven't seen any mention of Firefox 4.0 having a new feature such as that.
BTW, 'autocomplete' data like "form and search history" is stored in a different file than "download history" data is stored,and there are separate preferences for toggling the saving of each (Options > Privacy) and the deleting of each in Clear Recent History./
