Why no cursor to enter info in Pages?

Pages creates two types of document: Word processing documents and Page layout documents.
Word processing documents include a default Text layer into which text can be entered directly.
Page layout documents do not contain a Text layer. Those created with either of the Blank Canvas templates contain nothing except an empty canvas onto which objects, including Text boxes, may be placed. To enter text on a Page layout document, you will first need to insert a Text box (or a Shape) using the Text button or the Shapes button in the Toolbar. Click inside the Text box, and you will see the insertion point and be able to enter txt from the keyboard or from the Clipboard.

I reloaded my old iWorks 08 to my iMac's new hard drive. With a new Pages document, I can't see the cursor. You can type in text but it is in white only. Any thoughts?

Hi. I lost my iMac's hard drive and had a new one installed. I reloaded my old iWorks 08 software and then transferred my Pages documents from a portable HD to the iMac. The files open but the original text in them (they are journals) are in white against the white background. Plus I can't see any sign of the cursor. I can hi-lite the text and change its colour but never to black. Plus the photos I inserted along side the text are barely visible, as if they had been badly faded.
Any thoughts on this? Many thanks.

You must run Software Update and bring your old iWorks 08 to the latest release for compatibility with the current OS.

Can anyone help with my problem. I have one document that just can't seem to be exported to Word. It doesn't have any special formatting. A footer with page numbers is the only special thing. Anyone have any ideas? I've tested other docs, and they seem to export fine, just this one document. There is nothing special to this document either. i've imported the original from Word, modified it as pages, then tried to export it again. Nothing. i've also copied and pasted the whole doc into a new sheet, and tried to save it again as word, nothing again. I'm running out of things to do on this

It probably have something that is corrupt. Sometimes one has to try to export to another format (if it can be done) like .rtf and the open in Pages again. Or copy and paste to a textEdit document, save it and open it in Pages. Last resort is to recreate the document.

It sounds to me as though you are attempting to open a Pages 09 document with the Pages 08 application. If you do have Pages 09 on your computer, it may be that for some reason an existing Pages 08 application is invoked accidentally.

I'll guess that you've used a page layout document & pasting created a text box. You can add more pages & create linked text boxes, but I think you'd be better of using a word processing document. In word processing documents there is a basic text layer & additional pages will be created as needed to fit the text. Take a look at the toolbar of your document. If it says "sections" for the +page icon it's a word processing document, if it says "pages" it's a page layout document.

Not that I know of. Would be less practical than the option coming from Pages -- everyone using Pages probably has some default email client, but far from everyone using Mail would have iWorks and Pages. So building in the feature to Mail not so practical.

When trying to export a pages document, it says 'error while printing' when I want to save as PDF. I used to be able to do it but for some random reason it won't let me anymore. Even when the printer is not plugged in or turned on it says it. Is there a setting I can change? Does anyone know how to fix as i can't email any documents and I don't know what else to do. Please help its driving me crazy.....

thank you, I can't print or save any old pages documents. I will create a new one and see if that helps. I have tried from the print dialog but it says the same thing. I will try something in another application. Could it have been when I updated pages? I only recently got broadband so did a heap of updates that were a bit overdue.

You can do this on your computer using Adobe Acrobat. Buy the program and learn how to create complex PDFs.

Not on my document. I have a 7 page document open. The "flashing vertical bar" is at the top of page 3. I have the thumbnail view showing. I click page break and two blank pages are added to the end of my document. I have to scrool thru the pages to see that the 2 pages were added as they do not appear in the layout view... I'm not sure if it is inserting a "section" as it adds two blank pages.. But I am clicking on "INSERT PAGE BREAK".. So guess there are still a lot of bugs to fix..

The default about:home page in Firefox 4 doesn't give such features. You can set the home page to http://www.google.ca to get that possibility. The results page has a "Pages from Canada" link in the side menu at the left.

Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (and Clear History)
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Look into what security software you are running and disable it and also go to apple.com/support and search for
itunes store connection issues by actually typing that into the bar next to support then scroll down to one of the TS articles and begin a jounrey of internet explorer configuration.
