When I go to search web pages on safari my screen has a grey cover over page and won't let me click on items?, When I go to search web pages on safari my screen has a grey cover over page and won't let me click on items?

When I go to search the web on safari my screen is greyed out and I can't click on any anything. What should i do?

Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (and Clear History)
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

In fact, I am runing some plug-ins:  ClickToPlugin (Flash blocker), Collusion and Disconnect.
There is quite a history of new versions of Safari breaking third-party plug-ins/extensions becasue the plug developer did not have an updated version available by the time the new Safari version dropped. What you report--worked fne before but won't now--is exactly what history says happens in such a case.
First, turn off all third-party stuff and see if Safari smooths out. Alternatively, create a new user account and, from there, test Safari in its native state with nothing added. That is a good diagnostic to see if the issue is a plug or extension.
If either of those helps, check for updates to the add-ons. If the developer is slow in reacting to the updated Safari version, (not unheard of), stop using that extension until an update is available.

You haven't mentioned any steps you might have tried to correct this so I'll suggest you try the first troubleshooting step. Reset your iPhone. Press and hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the buttons and let the device restart. No data will be lost doing this. It's like rebooting a computer.

  • I am using the latest Safari. When I open a saved web page, the page is replaced by a grid view of 12 sites I visited.  How can I restore the original setting ?

I am using MacBook Air 13 for more than two years.  I appears some setting in Safari has been changed unwittingly. Now whenever I open a web-page I have previously saved, the "saved as" page disappears and is replaced by a screen showing in grid view the last 12 pages of sites I have visited.  How to restore the setting so that the web page when opened shows the page I have saved.

From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

  • Videos on a web page will no longer play when accessed via a 'home screen' bookmark

iPad 2, iPad Mini iOS 8
I have saved certain web pages as bookmarks 'to the home screen' but since the iOS update when I open these pages and try to play an embedded video that is hosted on the website itself (as opposed to a YouTube type one) the video will no longer load or play, its as though the play button pop up is missing, they will play from a standard bookmark and they will play from the page when I load it up in Safari before I save the bookmark but as soon as I create a shortcut and 'add to home screen' they stop playing.
I've tried this on iPad 2, iPad Mini & iPad Air all running iOS 8, they were all fine before the iOS update so that's certainly caused the issue but has anyone else experienced this or know how to resolve it?!

it's possible.  but you have quite a lot to learn or you should hire someone.  it's unlikely you'll find someone to do all that gratis.
if you want to learn, check the video class.  it will let you play the flv file without a skin.
you can also use the flvplayback component with no skin.  that will add to your swf's file size with no benefit except it's easier to use than the video class.
the floating and disappearing can all be done with divs.

  • I Web 08 Help with page format so that a page when viewed covers the screen

I published my pages to a folder to see how my business site would look to a viewer. It only covers part of the screen and looks dumb. If I leave the background totally white around text and photos, a page will cover the screen but also look dumb due to the big left and right margins. When I looked at other sites created in I Web, they covered the screen. Do the various pages cover the screen when published for real? When I called for help I was told that we are stuck with I Web's format. I would be grateful for anyone who has the patience to help. And I am not HTML savvy. Thanks, M
PS. I also wanted to put a colored border around part of the page but than really narrowed the page for viewing and fitting in the content.
A friend who has a PC used 1 & 1 to build a small professional site. It was easy, inexpensive, and looked professional. Why hasn't apple offered an easy alternative to I Web for building a professional site? Dreamweaver, I am told, is complicated.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What size screen do you want to cover? My monitor is 1600 pixels wide (a 22" display). To change the size of the page you use the IInspector/Page/Layout pane. But there's a limit to what you can do and have it look good. If you shoot for a larger monitor those with a smaller will be overwhelmed and have to scroll sideways to view the page. I believe iWeb uses as a default size a good compromise for the many monitor sizes out there.
Personally, I don't like sites that cover the entire monitor window and my desktop. Just a personal quirk.

  • My mid 2010 Mac running yosemite lock has recently started to lock up when I do a swipe on the magic mouse to scroll a web page

My mid 2010 Mac running yosemite has recently started to lock up when I do a swipe on the magic mouse to scroll a web page. Anybody having a similar experience?  I believe I've taken the last update to Yosemite within the last several weeks but this behavior did not start in concurrence with any system maintenance events.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • IMac freezes, screen flickers, simply power fails or restarts when visiting Javascript "heavy" pages in safari

For the last couple of updates in Mavericks I'm having an issue on my 24" iMac (early-2009).
Whenever Safari wants, it makes the screen show some graphical glitches and everything but the mouse are inoperable and that only to the extend of moving the cursor, because clicking doesn't do anything. Some other times the machine just crashes, on some few occasions it has even told me there was an error and has send an error report at apple.
I tried disabling all 4 of my safari plug-ins and reseting everything in Safari, but nothing changed.
Then I started playing around with detecting what might be causing this, so I have come to the conclusion of it being a JavaScript (or JQuery?) issue.
Since I'm a programmer and a web-designer, I tested it on a few webpages created by me and I soon noticed that if I try to stretch out the usage of let's say a slider by clicking fast on the "next slide" it caused the issue.
After that I checked and saw that indeed the more JavaScript calls a page has the more the chances of Safari "crashing" (I'm using quotes, because not once has simply safari crashed, that would be an improvement in my case!).
All other major Browsers (Chrome, Firefox and Opera) don't seem to cause this issue, neither has this happened on any other occasion but when I'm working on Safari.
Any ideas on what might be causing this and/or how to fix this?

BTW, do you have any third party RAM installed? If yes, try removing and check for issue.

Once i open a site that has a link to another page that is a pdf based page the page comes up as a black screen with no info showing
If I open a site that gices me an open to save a file to a word, excel type document or a pdf , everything works fine until I try to save the information to a PDF and again the screen goes black
I have tried the safari help site but to no avail, does anyone have a solution to thid problem. (I do have the abode ofr mac program loaded)

If you delete all the Adobe Reader stuff it will probably fix this. For almost everything, the Apple pdf handling works better.
