When I launch firefox 3.6.8 2 tabs open for my home page instead of just one.

Just installed 3.6.8. At launch 2 tabs are opened, both for my home page. I have closed out several times and relaunched but each time 2 tabs are opening.
Just looked at the plug-ins listed below and have no idea why I would have a plug-in for Netscape Navigator - haven't used that in years and years and never on this computer. Also some of the others are not recognized. Doubt tho whether any of this applies to my current question.

1. On the menu bar, located on top of Firefox, select Tools | Options
2. Confirm you are in the '''General Panel'''
What is your Home Page set to? You can click '''Restore to Default''' to set the default Home Page. '''Use current Page''' will automatically make the page you are on in Firefox the Home Page. '''Use Current Bookmark''' will allow you to use a bookmark as your Home Page. You can set multiple Home Pages with the '''|'''symbol.

  • Is it possible in Firefox to have a new tab open to my home page? Currently, it is just blank. I have to click the 'Home' icon to load my home page. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you.

I am running Firefox 7.0.1 on Windows 7.

A blank page is the default for a new tab. You can middle-click the Home button to open a new tab with your homepage, or you can install this extension and set it for your homepage.

  • Why won't my Firefox open with my home page instead of a blank tab?

The browser always opens in a new tab even when I have it set to open in my home page. When I have Firefox set as my default browser it opens in a new blank tab when I click a link in a document or email. The only time I get my home page on opening Firefox, is if the browser is already open and I choose to open a new window. However, when I do that I lose my yahoo toolbar settings for the newly opened window. Yes, I have tried removing cookies, and that does not work. This problem is exasperating, I do not like IE, but I use it because it opens links without my having to keep the browser open all the time.

Hi tigerleatoo, I'm not sure I understand your question.
When you launch Firefox using its program icon, you should get your preference from the following tab:
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > General > "When Firefox starts"
So in your case, you should see your home page(s).
When Firefox is completely closed and you launch it using a link in email or a document, Firefox usually will ONLY open that linked page and nothing else. Are you getting a blank tab in addition? Do you want your home page in addition?
Is the problem that you want external links to open a new window when Firefox is already running?
Firefox tries to follow your preference for new tabs vs. new windows for both internal and external links.
In other words, if you have set Firefox to open new windows in a tab here:
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Tabs
Then external links will usually open in an existing window rather than in their own window.
There is a way to split these so they behave differently, but because the steps are detailed, I won't burden you with those unless you need them.

  • How can I change my settings so that when I open a new tab, it opens a designated home page instead of a blank 'Untitled' page?

I want to be able to set my Firefox tabs so that when I open a new tab, it displays my home page. Right now, when I open a new tab, I get a blank page that's just 'Untitled'.

You can look at one of these extensions:

    * New Tab Homepage : https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/new-tab-homepage/

  • When logging out of a website, a new tab opens to the closed page but the original tab is still open. How do I close first tab?

When I open a site, such as a Credit card website, after I logon, but when I try to logout. When I hit the logout button, a new tab opens and this page is now the logged out page of the website, but the original tab is still open and the page is still logged on. I have tried every possible combination of changes in the Tab Mix Plus but cannot get the right ones to fix this problem.

    Thank's but still no fix.
    In safe mode everything works.
    Without Zotero - everything works.
When the popup is loaded with Zotero, the tab shows a constant "Loading" with the circular in process icon.
The Zotero icon shows to the left of the tab.
If I right click on Zotero and close it, the close() js works properly
Is there a way to do a window.open() with:
    A. no tabs -or-
    B. block all add on's -or-
    C. to kill an add on
    before doing the close()?

  • When I open Firefox, why does it take so long for my home page (which is aol) to load?

Really nothing more to say, it just takes so long to open my home page I get annoyed and close it out. Please help cause I really like Firefox and it worked alot faster when I first installed it.

Reset the homepage to something else, or do not use a home page at all.

  • When I clos Firefox 4.0 having multiple tabs open, Ff does not ask to store those tabs to open them the next time I start Ff. In the old version 3.* that possibility was there.

When I closed Ff in version 3.*, Ff asked me if the open tabs should be stored to ben opened the next time. So I never lost my session.
In Ff 4.0.1 that question is not asked. So I lose all open pages in all tabs.
What can I do to get that possibility in Ff 4.*?

Firefox now always stores the old session, and you can access it by going to the History menu and selecting "Restore Previous Session"
If you want Firefox to display the message to save the session, it can be turned back on by changing some preferences.
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
    # Locate the preference '''browser.tabs.warnOnClose''', if its value is set to '''false''', double-click on it to change its value to '''true'''
    # Repeat this for these 3 preferences '''browser.warnOnQuit''', '''browser.warnOnRestart''' and '''browser.showQuitWarning'''
If you always open the last set of tabs, an alternative approach is this:
    # Click the orange Firefox button, then select options to open the options window
    # Go to the General panel
    # Change the setting "When Firefox starts" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

  • Hello, I have windows vista, When I start up firefox, it does not respond. I end up starting it up 3-4 times then it eventually opens with 3-4 tabs open to my home page. It will never startup on the first try.

firefox does not reponde on initial startup. I have updated everything.

You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location bar and do a search for <i>jzip</i> via the Filter at the top of the about:config page.<br />
You can reset all <i>jzip</i> related prefs via the right-click context menu to their default values.

  • I have a problem closing tabs in Firefox v3.6.13. The first tab on the left hand side (ie the page that opens when I launch Firefox) won't close when I click on the red x.

I can't close the left hand tab except by exiting firefox. When i launch firefox the original tab stays open when I click on the red x, even if I have other tabs open.
i can alter the website displayed on the left hand tab but it still won't close and leave other more recent tabs open.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • When I launch Firefox, Adobe Update says Reader is out of date, but it is not.

I don't even use the Adobe Reader plugin, since, on a Mac, it doesn't work anyway. I use Firefox PDF Plugin, instead. But, when I launch Firefox, Adobe Update launches and tells me that Adobe Reader is out of date. When I launch Adobe Reader and check for updates, it says that it's up to date. I wouldn't care if it just happened once, but it continues to happen, at least once a day. It's very annoying. How do I get it to stop, since it's wrong, anyway?
    Mac OS X 10.5.8
Firefox 3.6.13 (Adobe Reader plugin not installed)
    Firefox PDF Plugin 1.1.3
    Adobe Reader 10.0.1

There seems to be a SEVERE lack of information on this issue and evidently no one is doing anything about it.
The available info simply leads you in circles.

  • Error message panel on desktop when I launch Firefox

Could not be located in the dynamic link library mozjs.dll.
When I click "OK" Firefox goes ahead and launches without any apparent issue.

I use Colorful Tabs too, and this error started occurring (intermittently) after one of the Colorful Tabs updates. After receiving an update yesterday (I think), the error message now appears TWICE before the browser opens.
While I'm quite fond of Colorful Tabs, I'm less fond of the error so I'm going to disable to plugin and see what happens.

  • When I launch Firefox 4.0.1 I get an error message that says "We noticed your may have signed inor signed out in another window. Click Ok to reload your page." I have to sign in with my username and password. Richard

When I launch Firefox 4.0.1 I get an error message that says "We noticed your may have signed inor signed out in another window. Click Ok to reload your page." I deleted Firefox and reloaded it - did not solve the problem. This started occurring after I downloaded Windows Service Pack 2. I have Vista 7 OS. So every time I close and relaunch Firefox, I have to sign in with my username and password. Very very, annoying. If I can't get this corrected, I have to start using another Browser. Thanks for your help. Richard

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.<br />
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note).

  • I'm running V7.0, but when I launch Firefox, a page comes up that this version is out of date followed by a second normal page

I'm running V7.0, but when I launch Firefox, a page comes up with a heading "Almost there!" followed by a message that this "version is out of date". Then a second normal tab/page of the browser opens.
Yes I close the first tab but it has become a source of irritation since I installed V7.0

  • When I launch the program, I get unwanted tabs

I've just updated to Firefox 8. Now, every time I launch the program, I get a tab with the "Getting Started with Firefox" page. Closing the tab does no good; when I start the program again, the tab is back. What can I do about this?

This isn't any help. My home page is unchanged, and loads properly when I launch Firefox. The "getting started" page also launches at startup, in a separate tab. Nothing I've tried makes it stop doing this, and it's getting very annoying. I'm very close to a decision to stop using Firefox and switch to a more reliable browser (and I've been using Firefox happily for years). But thanks for the input.
