Thanks for that information!
I'm sure I will be calling AppleCare, but the problem is, they charge for the phone calls don't they? Because I don't have money to be spending to be on the phone with a support service.
In other things, it seemed like the only time my MacBook was working was when I had Snow Leopard without the 10.6.8 update download that was supposed to be done to prepare for OS X Lion.
When I look at the information of my HD it says that I have 10.6.8 but that was the install that it claimed to have failed and caused me to restart resulting in all of the repeated problems.
Also, because my computer is currently down, and I've lost all files how would that effect the use of my iPhone? Because if it doesn't get fixed by the time OS 5 is released, how would I be able to upgrade?!

  • Firefox cannot load certain websites and I've tried all suggested options to fix the problem.

I cannot load certain websites (my bank, some public/civic offices, etc.) on Firefox or Internet Explorer (I usually use Firefox) and have tried all the suggested options in Firefox Help to remedy this problem: clearing cache and cookies, making sure no proxy is selected, allowing cookies). How do I fix this? I use a broadband internet connection that is shared.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
    <b> To Enable SafeMode </b>
*You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
*''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.
Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: "Firefox > Quit Firefox"; Linux: "Firefox/File > Quit")

  • When I load certain websites (ESPN, Sportsline) I am getting text versions instead of HTML and I can't fix it. What can I do? I tried uninstalling and re-installing but that didn't work.

This is not just an ESPN or Sportsline problem because those websites are coming through fine with IE. And I have had the issue with other sites.

when I went to put music on it, I had to update my itunes to do so. when I did, bonjour cme up with an error message and wanted me to find the path "bonjour.msi".
Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

When I open a pdf in Adobe Acrobat xi pro it is not displaying correctly. If a file is all black with orange writing, I will see only the orange writing. Its not until i print it or open crop pages dialog box that i see the background.
    i am on a Windows 7 professional PC, 64-bit.

If anyone is reading this still looking for what caused the issue and how to fix it here is what I discovered.
The antivirus program our company uses, Bitdefender Antivirus Plus, was causing some of the PDF files not to open. After troubleshooting the different modules and settings the culprit was..
Scan SSL in Privacy Control Settings. Turning it OFF solved the problem and all the PDF files that previously would not open now open just fine. This issue has been sent to Bitdefender for them to review. If you use a different antivirus program and are having this issue try locating the Scan SSL setting and see if turning it off solves the problem.

  • Problem loading certain websites

For the past year or so, my iMac has (running Mac OS X 10.5.8) has been giving me trouble when it comes to loading certain websites. The reason why I think it's my computer as opposed to my browser or my internet connection is because these websites will load on other computers connected to the wireless network in my home, and because the problem persists with any browser I attempt to use - I've tried Google Chrome, Firefox and Safari and none of them load these websites. (Also, they load fine when I'm on the internet via my iPod touch.)
The websites in question include about.com, ehow.com, and any website with a .me extension. There are others, but those are the three that come to mind at the moment. When I try to go on about.com for example, the page simply does not load. There's not even an attempt to load the page. It's very frustrating because I see no reason why these websites shouldn't work.
I have tried clearing the caches, history and preferences for all browsers, as well as logging in as a different user on my computer and seeing if these websites worked - they didn't work, even as a different user. I was told it could be a problem with the .plist files, so I dragged all of them into the trash and tried loading these webpages, but it still didn't work. Does anyone know what else it could be? Also, I apologize if my description of the problem was unclear.

Some other things you can try:
    1. Run Software Update (in the Apple Menu) and make sure you have all available Apple updates for OS X.
    2. Go to Adobe.com and make sure you have the latest versions of Shockwave and Flash for your computer installed.
    3. Go to System Preferences > Parental Controls and see if any restrictions have been established.
    4. Go to System Preferences > Accounts and set up a new user account. Try using your browsers from this account. If they work, there is a problem with your "old" account. Next steps will depend on how much time and effort you're willing to devote to troubleshooting.
    5. Power cycle your router and computer.
    6. Go to System Preferences > Network. Highlight your router (assuming you're using a wireless connection) and select the "TCP/IP" panel. Click on the "Renew DHCP Lease" button.

  • Why am I getting a "Opening tweet_button.html" pop-up when I open certain websites?

Just downloaded new Firefox version & when I open certain websites I get a message saying I'm attempting to open a tweet_box.html (which I am not, I'm just opening pages from my bookmarks), and do I want to open or save it. Multiple boxes open for each site (3-5). Not sure where to turn this off??

I noticed this after the 4.0.1 update. I also have people in my office reporting the problem on a multitude of computer systems all using 4.0.1. I've confirmed it's not any extensions while loading a fresh Windows 7 SP1 on a test box and loading 4.0.1. 4.0 doesn't appear to be having this issue. I tried changing the html (aspx) file to be opened with Firefox, it ended up opening 60 tabs and crashing the browser. However, I no longer get the popups after restoring my session. Though the tweet_button.html is not loading on the page correctly.

  • My computer will not load certain websites

    Hi,
Both Safari and Firefox will not load certain websites consistantly (Twitter is one of them). I check on my wife's computer and they can load on her computer no problem. It shows the "Problem Loading Page" message. I've cleared history, cache, everything that I can think of. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Richard

    Hello,
In a browser's URL bar, put this & hit enter, does that get you to Apple?

  • I'm unable to load certain websites across all browsers on a MacBook Pro

Suddenly I'm unable to load certain websites (sundancechannel.fr, sundancechannel.tw, etc.) across all browsers—Safari, Firefox, Chrome—on my new MacBook Pro. Other computers on the same wifi can access those same sites fine.
I either get a won't connect to server message or a blank page.
    Any idea what's going on?
I've thus far tried restarting the connection, clearing my cache, restarting the computer, deleting my history, and even getting in touch with the site owners.

    Cambrey,
that HTML content shows that there’s no content at that Web site — it will only show the heading “301 Moved Permanently” and the single line “nginx/1.2.6”. I suspect that they might have wanted to include a redirection directive in that document, but for some reason, they didn’t. Your browsers are behaving as they ought to do with this Web site.
Have you considered trying www.sundancechannel.fr in your browsers instead of sundancechannel.fr?

  • Firefox downloads a ".php" file when I browse certain websites. I'm on a Mac and running OS X 10.6.4

Firefox is automatically downloading ".php" files when I browse certain websites.
Without permission, it just simply downloads the files and prompts me to indicate the program I would like to open the file with.
I work for a school district and Firefox 4 was installed in 4 other computers and it did the same thing with all of them.
I then reverted to the previous version of Firefox and continued to have the same problem.
    Please advise

Hold down the shift key when you launch an app in Lion to "discard previous windows".

  • Need to click in address bar to load certain websites

Firefox never finishes loading certain websites. However, clicking on the site address in the address bar then immediately loads them. This also happens with all add-ons disabled. What gives?

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

safari has stopped loading certain websites, all software is up to date. Have tried resetting safari with no result. Any ideas?

If you follow the instructions at http://www.opendns.com/start , does the problem go away? If so, your ISP is having DNS troubles.
(Hopefully you can get to Open DNS.)

  • How do I prevent itunes from moving my music from its original place ie folders in an external drive when I play music from itunes. I have all my music in artist folders and separated by MPG3/MPG4 and FLAC folder within the artist folder.

How do I prevent itunes from moving my music from its original place ie folders in an external drive when I play music from itunes. I have all my music in artist folders and separated by MPG3/MPG4 and FLAC folders within the artist folder and itunes moves the track/s whenever i try and load selected music to my ipod/iphone. I've tried to find some sort of preference to prevent this, but no joy? What am I missing?

Try opening iTunes preferences. Then click on advanced tab. Then uncheck "Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library." By default, iTunes copies music to its own media folder when you use iTunes to play the music.

  • I got an iphone 4. I had to update my macbook pro to Lepard just to sync. I updated to lepard. Now when I try to sync itunes does not recognize my new iphone 4 as mine and wants to erase everything I have bought using the phone.

I upgraded from Iphone 3g to iphone 4. I had to update my macbook pro to Lepard just to sync. the **** thing with the new iphone 4. I bought and updated to lepard. Now when I try to sync itunes does not recognize my new iphone 4 as mine and wants to erase everything I have bought using the phone before it will sync! It says everything on the phone now will be cleared in order to sync it with my existing info on the computer from my previous iphone. How can I just get everything from my current iphone 4 into itunes, basically add it to the info from my previous iphone 3g that is currently in my itunes?  I dont want to lose what I have on my phone currently....I paid money for half the apps for crying out loud.
I was so frustrated by this when I first bought the phone that I just pushed it out of my mind and NEVER synced it. Please help...

Nope - you cannot restore a backup from a newer iOS version on to a device running an older iOS version.  The reverse works, but in your case to use your backup, you must update to iOS 7.0.3 - no other option if you want to use that backup.
