When I load Messages, the preferences option is greyed out

I've synced Messages with my iPhone and my iPad but haven't been able to do so with my iMac. When I activate Text Message Forwarding for my iMac, it won't send a confirmation code to my computer. Also, when I go into Message on my iMac the Preferences option is greyed out.
Suggestions?

Hi,
In iChat and Messages up to version 8 in Mavericks this was solved by going to ~/Library/Preferences and finding the com.apple.ichat.plist and Dragging it to the Trash and restarting the app.
Whilst Yosemite still lists Messages as version 8 it is significantly different.
It seems here the Font AppleGothic.ttf needs to be active (and Validate).
It may be you need to do both as someone in the Yosemite Community did the deletion first then validated the Font before restarting and then getting their window to look "right".

  • In iPhoto, the "publish" option is greyed out when attempting to upload to Facebook. Any suggestions on fixing this?

Basically when trying to upload pictures to Facebook through iPhoto, the publish option is greyed out. I've tried signing out and signing back in, changing the Facebook password, removing the cache, and just restarting the computer. Next thing I can think of is reinstalling the operating system. Has anyone else had similar issues?

Yes! Have you found a solution yet? I have os x 10.6.8 too. Thanks

  • Has anybody else had the problem with the wifi option being greyed out? I need to know how to fix it??

I recently updated my phone software to iOS 6.1.3 and for the first couple of weeks, it was ok. but then until monday, the option to turn on the wi-fi has been greyed out so I can't turn my phone's wi-fi on which means I have to keep using my 3G coverage which will eventually cost me a fortune if I don't get the wi-fi greyed out problem sorted out as soon as possible. If anybody could help me with this problem (without having to take it apart or putting it into the freezer) please let me know as soon as possible.
    Thanks

I have seen a few searches that indicate some people have had success by changing their wifi security settings.  Using none (not recommended) or using WPA2 with a strong pass phrase (longer than 8 characters) seems to work for everyone I've talked to.  I've not had this issue myself on any of my devices (2 iPhone 4, 2 iPhone 5, 2 iPad 2, all running iOS 6.1.3, and 2 iPod Touch 3rd Gen running iOS 5.1.1), but then again, my home wifi has had a strong pasphrase, and WPA2 for 7-8 years now.  I beleive that some people have had luck with performing a reset of network settings (but others have not, and claimed that it actually made things worse some how).  Some have had luck performing a device restore in iTunes, while others have claimed that did nothing but cause them to lose everything.
I know there is so much wifi congestion in my neighborhood that it is hard to find a channel that doesn't already have 2-3 routers using it.  It is possible that resetting your wifi router might help.  I know that when my iPhone wouldn't connect to my wireless network, it would usually clear up if I restarted the router.

  • IWeb window won't load - and all menu options are greyed-out

I've used iWeb before (with a web site set-up), but I tried to open it today and the iweb screen would not open. The program menubar loads, but almost everything, including New Page and New Site are greyed out.
I checked my ME account and it is active and working.
Not sure what the problem is here - any ideas?

Hi, I had the same problem!
After one evening of pulling my hair out, I tried the following:
    1. Located the 'domain' file (or package). In my case at /*user/Library/Application Support/iWeb.
    2. moved the domain file to the desktop (or somewhere else)
    3. Started iWeb. I got the warning that iWeb needed a domain file in order to operate, and I confirmed that I wanted the program to create a new one for me.
    4. iWeb started as normal, but with no contents. I closed iWeb.
    5. I ctrl-clicked the original domain file on my desktop, and selected 'show package contents'.
    6. I ctrl-clicked the new, empty domain file in the Application Support/iWeb directory, and selected 'show package contents'.
    7. I deleted everything in the new, empty domain package file.
    8. And finally copied the contents from the old (seemingly corrupt) package file into the new one.
    9. Hooooray! iWeb started with the old contents intact!

  • When I open Safari, the Quit option is grayed out and I can't close multiple tabs (the 'x' is gone).

    Can anyone help!

Try the Reset Safari... option with all the options enabled and see if that helps.
If you need to have the browser terminate, you can resort to the Force Quit option (Option-Command-Esc).
