When I log off of Firefox, do something else, and then want to get back on Firefox it says that it is already running and have to close the old Firefox out. How do I do it? Now, I'm restarting the computer. Is there an easier way? Thanks Steve

I x off Firefox and work on MS Pub or Word, perhaps my email. If, for some reason I want to go back on Firefox, a box comes up and says it's already running - to close it and restart Firefox. I can't find where to close it? If I could re-open it, that would be fine, but to close it - there are no tabs, icons etc. So, I simply restart the whole computer and begin again. That's a long way round the barn!

Check the task manager (ctrl + shift + esc) and look for firefox.exe in the processes tab. If it's running, close it.

You can kill the process manually by right clicking in the task bar (next to the time and date) and opening the task manager.

I actually figured it out...I had to go to the iTunes Library Extras.itdb file and give myself permission to have full control. THEN, I could go and estore a previos version. Once I had done this, I got the same message for iTunes Library Genius.itdb . . . I did the same thing with it and Voila'!!

When I close firefox it doesn't close. I go to reopen it and it says that it is already running. I have to use task manager to end process to close it before i can log back on.

After browsing and I close Firefox it appears to close.
However when I go to reopen it later I get a message that Firefox is already open and I need to close it. The only wany I can close it is by using Task Manger to end process.

Must be the "hang at exit" problem. You already know how to do Step1; now just determine which Add-on (Extension or Plugin) is causing the problem.

Firefox claims that it is already running and will not let me start a new session after closing out

I've been having this problem intermittently on both my Dell XPS 8000 and my HP nx7400 laptop. The Dell is running the latest version of Windows 7 Pro and the HP is running XP Pro (fully updated). After closing out of a Firefox session and running other apps, Firefox will not let me initiate another session, saying that "Firefox is already running... Please close the session..." That's not an exact quote, but you get the idea. CTRL-ALT-DEL and all other conventional means don't work and I am forced to reboot the system. This is a royal pain.. and I need some pain relief! Any suggestions? I may revert to an earlier version of Firefox until I see a solution... can't hurt, but I really like 4.0 and I don't look at going backwards as "progress."

Firefox won't run because it 'is already running' I have tried all steps in firefox crashes articles

I had a spectacular crash in Firefox (FF) - Malware or a virus - I think my system is clean now.
I removed FF and all FF/Mozilla files, downloaded a new FF. It will not run because:

I have tried all the remedies on the 'FF crashes' support page. The profile manager doesn't run probably because that was among the files I deleted.
All other apps seem to run fine.

It sounds like you have chosen a publishing template rather than a word processing template. There are two basic modes in MS Word: word processing and publishing layout. Word processing mode (and all word processing templates) have a continuous text box in the page for writing text. The publishing layout mode (and publishing templates) are documents that have text boxes placed for articles, titles, pictures, etc. Be sure to choose the word document template and you’ll get what you expect. Do not choose the word publishing document.

It is some mystery that happened during a time that I had practically given up. This should be such a simple thing. Drag and place a picture into the placeholder and it shows up in the TOC....right? Help, help help! want to get this thing done and it's taken two days of work just get some of the photos to show up. I am going to have to publish this ibook with no photos in several sections.....why can't this be simple? I have even had someone else spend hours trying to figure this out. This software is such a GREAT idea....come on...help with this little part of it.

I had the same problem myself. I got to the point where I couldn't replace the photo, of a new chapter, in the TOC. What I did was to duplicate an existing chapter that was working and was able to replace it's TOC's photo. I also found that if you try different areas of the photo you can sometimes get it to replace correctly. For example, instead of dragging the new photo to the middle of an existing photo, try dragging it to the right top corner.
