When I'm scrolling the main song list, "T" shows up as a letter for "The"

For example:
Aaaa
Abababab
The Acacac
Adadad
You know how when you scroll down, it shows the first letter of the song you're on so you can get to a specific letter? Well, if the first word of the song is "The", that "The" is disregarded, and put where the next word is, like in the AAA abab thing I posted. However when I scroll down, whenever I pass a "The", it shows the letter as "T", then it'll go to whatever the real letter is once I get past the "The's".
Any ideas? Note: I haven't been able to completely sync, explained here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=881538
That might be part of the problem (By the way, if you can help with the thing I linked to, please do)

This is a new feature of iTunes 7.1 called "sort". It appears in the get info section, and allows artists/albums such as "The Beatles" to appear in the 'B' section rather than 'T' in your library when sorting alphabetically, just as it does on your iPod.
To change this click on the file in question and get info. In the sort tab you will see two columns, on the right is the one you need. For example on the left it should show "The Sweet Escape" and on the right under sort ablums "Sweet Escape". But "the" back in front and it will go back into the 'T' section of your library.
As of yet I haven't found any way of doing this with multiple files, or automating this process as I spent several hours doing this manually last night.
Good luck
