Try a reset:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

When I make a call, I can hear the other person but they can't hear me?  Tried everything.  Took it to the local ATT store and all they could tell me is it shouldn't be happening and to take it to an apple store?  Any ideas?

Try to isolate the issue. Use earphone and if the issue still happens then it might be the phone issue.
    - If earphone works fine then it may be the mic on the iPhone. Try cleaning the debris on the iPhone. Finally a restore of the device and try to set it as a new device. Tha will isolate if it is a software or hardware issue.
    - You can take the phone to Apple store once you have tried all this.

  • After last OS update, my iPhone 4 is dropping more calls or I can hear the other person but they can't hear me

My signal (ATT) on my iPhone 4 seems to have gotten worse since the last OS update.  In addition, frequently during a conversation, we can initially hear one another then they stop hearing me speak although I can hear them perfectly clear.  Is this happening to anyone else?  Is there anything I can do to correct.  The problem seems to be getting considerably worse.

  • When I make a call, I can hear the person on the other end but they can't hear me. It's not the mic, I use the voice recorder all the time and I have no problems w FaceTime. My headphones and Bluetooth do the same thing as far as not being able to be hea

When I make a call, I can hear the person on the other end but they can't hear me. It's not the mic bc face time or voice recorder are not affected. I can't even use my headphones or Bluetooth to get around the problem. This has stumped 2 geniuses, they just try to swap it out for $150.

I am having the same issue with my iPhone 4. I can hear everyone but they can't hear me. Visited Apple Store and they said speakers were out, both bottom mic and top one for speaker phone. Said they were busted. Reloaded all software and didn't work. Got in parking lot and worked for 1 call. Now it's out again. Wanted $150 for new phone, haven't done it yet. don't know what to do.

  • When making or receiving calls on my iPhone 4, I can hear the person on the other end, but they can't hear me. This happens most of the time, but occaisionally, it works! Sometimes it starts during the call...Can you help me?

    Infos:
    IPhone 4, 32 GB
    IOS 7.1.2
    Problem:
Videos, memos and other sound microphone using applications work without any problem. It just appears when calling or being called. Sometimes it starts during the call.
    Situation:
I sent my damaged IPhone 4 to apple for reparation. I bought it for 180 € + 20 € for my retailer.
Some calls later this problem started (only at the new or repaired IPhone). My 3 month warranty is almost over (4 weeks left)
    Steps to solve the problem:
    - rebootet the IPhone several times
    - made a backup (iCloud and ITunes) and recovered it again
    - I set back all settings to standard.
    --> Nothing changed
Then I went to my retailer, who sent it to Apple, but I just received a sheet of paper where they said, they did nothing.
Surprisingly the problem still exists. Started at the second call I received. Now the warranty time is going to run out in 4 weeks.
    Open Questions:
What else can I do? I have a not working IPhone and nobody want's to help me ?!? I feel lost and disappointed. Do they want to cheat me, so my warranty runs out? Thanks for any help

  • Our iPad camera has switched off. When Skypeing we can see the other user but they can only hear us.

During a recent Skype session our iPad in England stopped sending images as if the camera had been turned off. My family can hear and see me in Australia, but I can only hear them in England. Does anyone know if there is a settings button or something that might accidentally have turned the camera off? Thanks Glen

    Try closing the Camera app:
    1. Double-click the Home button to reveal the Task Bar
    2. Hold down the Camera app for a second or two until you see the minus sign
    3. Tap the minus sign to close app
    4. Tap area above Task Bar to return to Home screen
If the above doesn't solve the problem, do a reset:
Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the red slider

  • As of yesterday, when making or receiving calls, I can hear the person on other end, but they can't hear me unless I use the speaker???

When making or receiving calls I can hear the person on the other end, but they cannot hear me unless I use the speaker option.

Look to the right in the "More Like This" box.  Your issue has been addressed in countless posts.  Always an act of forum courtesy to search before posting, FYI.
    Best of luck.

    Hey there mahmoud.qaadan,
It sounds like you are making calls or receiving them but the other party cannot hear you even though the microphones work in other apps on your phone. I would start by quitting all the running apps on your device:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that and restart the device and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If it persists, I would next backup your device to iTunes with this article:
iOS: How to back up and restore your content
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
And restore it from your backup with this article:
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,

Oh no, Robinbird18! This is not what we like to hear about your cell phone. It makes it pretty hard to have a conversation with someone when you can't hear them. If you make a phone call out are you able to have a conversation with someone without any issues? How long has this been going on? Have you tried to use the phone on speaker phone to see if that works at all? Please keep us posted.   KevinR_VZW Follow us on Twitter @VZWSupport If my response answered your question please click the "Correct Answer" button under my response. Do you have a case on the phone? If so, can you try a call without the case on. If not, take a look at this support document to see if anything there helps. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1631

  • 3/27/14 someone calls me and i cant hear them but they can hear me

3/27/14 Someone calls me and I cant hear them but they can hear me this is happing to my iphone 4s iphone 5 and iphone 5s i power off all devices and turn them back on and they still doing the same thing .... when i call someone it works like normal.... it only happens when they try to call me ???

This happened to me.  The chances are, that your headphone socket has some fluff stuck inside it.
If you get your SIM card removal tool, or something similarly pointy in shape, very very gently dig out the fluff and clag inside your headphone socket.  You won't be able to see anything of course because it's so far up.  After removing some fluff, I also put the nozzle of the vacuum cleaner over the hole, using my hands ot create a bit of a seal, and afterwards my phone worked normally again.
While you're doing it, you may also want to remove any fluff from your charging socket too.
NB - do be careful though, because you don't want to cause any damage up there, but as long as you don't go "attacking" it, you should be fine.

  • Temporarily can't hear caller during a call, but they CAN hear me.

During a call I temporarily can't hear the caller but they CAN hear me. The sound on my end is completely dead. After 20-30 seconds the sound usually comes back. My AT&T bars are all filled up so it's not because I'm in a bad cell or coverage area. It doesn't seem to matter if I'm calling someone on their home or land line or on their cell, or if I'm calling from inside my home or when I'm out.
I called tech support a couple times and their last suggestion was that the cover I have might be interferring with the sensors in the phone somehow. The speakers are all uncovered though. I have the iSkin for the iPhone, which I really like.
I have updated my iPhone software to 2.1 and I've completely restored my phone back to the original manufacturer's settings but so far it hasn't helped. I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and if you think the case may be the cause of the problem.
I have an appointment to bring my iPhone in to an Apple Store but thought I'd post this before going.
Any thoughts or recommendations would be great.
    Thank you.

I had the same problem and it was the thin film skin I had on the screen. There are sensors in the black area of the screen by the speaker which are affected by the plastic cover. I dropped the phone about a foot and shattered the screen the first week and decided the loss of the sensor was better than paying apple another $300 for a rebuilt phone.
