When I open a document in InDesign CC the window extends underneath the panels.

Prior to CC, InDesign would open my document windows with the right edges of them stopping where the left edge of the panels start. Now it opens them with the windows extending underneath the panels. Any ideas on how to get them to open the old way? It's a minor inconvenience, but it's like a tiny splinter and has been bugging me for a while. Thanks.

Tried, no dice. Even tried closing all panels, then just opening one (Pages) to see if I could get that right. Nope. :-/

I purchased a computer with Windows 8 and installed the 8.1 upgrade. I installed Adobe Acrobat XI Pro and have had error messages about specific fonts not being present but the document opens just fine. If I look for a solution it tells me that no solution was found. I have not found any information online about this problem. Is this issue specific to the pdf files or do you face the issue with any pdf you try to open?
Which application was used to create these pdfs?
Have you updated Acrobat to v11.0.7 and checked?
Are you able to launch Acrobat standalone app without clicking on any pdfs?
You are getting error related to specific fonts because the document might have the fonts that are not available on your computer.

Is there a way to open .xml documents into InDesign, or any Adobe program?
The goal is to access text from a web site feed and place it in an Indesign doc, to create a print product.

You can't open XML but you can certainly utilize it.

When I open a document from a database (remote) It shows blank. The database application expects Adove to be used.

THE APPLICATION IS NAMED "Master Control". When I open a document it shows blank and the name is always "version-#.pdf". No matter what the size of any file shows to be around 5kB. I am using Linux Ubuntu 10.04.
If I use MS Windows and Explorer then everything works fine. Can you help?

A new tab opens by default as a blank tab (about:blank).
If that isn't the case then an extension has changed that behavior.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. 
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.

When I open a document in Firefox with Adobe Reader 9, I am unable to print it (no problem when using Internet Explorer)

I'm running Windows 7 (64-bit), using Firefox 8.0. When I open a document with Adobe Reader 9, I am unable to do anything with it (print, save, etc.) other than view it. When I use Internet Explorer I don't have this problem.

Not sure what you mean by truncated troubleshooting report, but here's what I copied from "troubleshooting" under "help". My printer is selected as the default printer in Devices and Printers. Also, remember that a document that won't print in Firefox prints fine in Internet Explorer.

Once you open the files in the new version you can't open them in the old version. Pick one version to use (have to be 9 now as you already have converted files)

Hi,
Try saving your settings as a Preset by clicking the Preset drop down and then select Save Current Settings as a Preset.
Next try changing the settings by selecting the saved preset.
That allow saving the settings for a specific printer, I assume it may also allow selecting these settings for another printer.

Can you check the ULS logs to find what is the error. The default location of log files will be C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\LOGS for MOSS 2007.
If is allowed for you to change the callstack and customerrors mode setting in the web.config then change those values to see the error.
Find: <SafeMode CallStack="false" />
Replace with: <SafeMode CallStack="true" />
Find: <customErrors mode="On" />
Replace with: <customErrors mode="Off" />

I have a problem opening indesign files. I have CS6. When I open a previous version indesign file CS55.5 I see a blank page.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

The problem was that you migrated CS6. Unfortunately, migration doesn't work because it doesn't move all the files.
First, you'll need to use the Adobe Cleaner Tool to remove the components that were installed:

When I open a document , the document goes to the right of the screen and I cannot see it.

I have HP Windows 7. It happened when I initially purchased computer in 2010 and now it happened again. I tried to right click off the screen to drag it in but it doesn't work.
It is doing this now when I download from an email and try to view the download and when I open a document in MS Word and Excel.

This can happen if you have ever connected a second monitor,
opened a document in that extended display,
and then closed the document in that extended display...
Later when you have only one monitor, that is, your main display, the document is still opening in that "ghost" monitor.
I do not know if this is what you did, but if yes, then the fix may be as follows..
Go back into your Display settings and set your monitor to display to just ONE (your main) display.
Your open documents should pull back into place in your main display area.

The Get Info dialog should look something like this:
The "Change All" button should be at the bottom of the "Open With" section. This is how it appears in Snow Leopard. Other OSX versions many be slightly different.
If something is changing the setting back to something else you may have a deeper problem than I am able to help you with. What is appearing in the Open with area before you correct it?
If the problem is still persisting, instead of double clicking on the file to open it, try right or control clicking and then select Open With and choose the proper app from the list.

It may seem strange indeed, but yes, you have to ALSO install the older version 6 for Apple's system; other applications will use your Java (which I believe is now even 9) and others will use that version 6.

How do I set "US letter" as my default paper size when I open a document?

I'm using Adobe Reader 9.5.5 and Mac OS 10.7.5.
Every time I open a PDF that's been emailed to me, Reader thinks it's US legal size, 11" x 14". Printing the document becomes a mess, unless I first remember to go File > Page setup > Paper size > US letter.
I'd like to be able to set US letter as my default paper size when I open a document. Can anyone tell me how to do that?

I am replying to my own question. I learned that if you right click when trying to open a PDF, you are asked which app you wish to use to open the file. If you click on Get Info, instead of choosing an app, you get this great information box which gives you the option to set Adobe Reader as your default app for PDF files. It even allows you to change all the pdf files you already have to Adobe Files. Yay.
