When I open a new tab firefox doesnt redirect me to it. Im not asking about links just when I click(+) to open a new tab it doesnt go to it

This problem started when I updated firefox to the current realease

As far as I know, this has never been a feature of Firefox's core. Do you have an addon such as New Tab JumpStart or New Tab King that gave you this feature in Firefox 4? It's possible that whatever addon gave you this feature before hasn't been updated to work with Firefox 5. If you don't want to wait for that addon to update, you could try either of the addons I mentioned above.
Here's NTJS: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/new-tab-jumpstart/

  • Acrobat did not ask about my PDF reading preferences when installing/launching

In reply #52 to this thread in the Creative Cloud forum post http://forums.adobe.com/message/4790915#4790915 the customer mandelbrot had this issue with Acrobat:
"When installing Acrobat 10 it removed my preferences for my default PDF Reader; Why?  I didn't ask it to.  Thankfully I reinstated the previous default through the OS.  This isn't a choice that Adobe should be making on my behalf - it should ask me."
On Windows 7 I was able to confirm this behavior by having Adobe Reader as my default program. I then installed Acrobat using the Creative Cloud. Afterwards I opened the PDF file and it opened in Acrobat without prompting me about Adobe Reader.

Windows will generally use the last program installed that instructs the system how to open a file of a particular type. If you want Reader to open the PDF when double-clicking in Windows Explorer, then right click, select open with, and then go to the menu for "always open with" and select Reader. What you are talking about is true of most installations of programs in Windows. Browsers tends to do the same thing if you install multiple browsers. In the case of Acrobat, AA X was the first version that actually allows both Reader and Acrobat, at least from a support viewpoint. For all previous versions it was recommended to install one or the other, not both. You can run both, but with some potential hickups.

  • Lately, Firefox often won't open the links when I click on them but will only open them when I ask it to open them in a new window or tab.

Often when I open Firefox, in the middle of a session it'll stop responding to my clicking on a link to open it in the same window. It'll show the url in the bottom when I hover over it but will do nothing when I click on it. It will only work when I either right click on it (then select open in new window/tab) or command click on it (opens in new tab automatically). I've noticed that it happens a lot when clicking on a link for a Google search result, but I know that it's not exclusively there, and it probably just sticks out more in my mind.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • When I click a link in a website, it loads in another tab, however i get 100's of new tabs that load with "untitled" and when i close firefox, it just opens by itself again and again

I was on my son's school website and I was looking to click the link to his teachers personal web-page. When I did, many, many "untitled" new tabs kept opening in the same screen. In fact it did not stop until I restarted my computer.
When I tried to close mozilla firefox page, it would then open up a new screen again doing the many, many "untitled" tabs. Every time I clicked the red X at the top of the screen, it would load a new page doing this.
It also did this on one other web page.
I am sure that there is just some info that needs to be entered for what to do when you click a link, however I have no clue how to change it.

For the list of teachers there are email addresses in the right hand column, did you click on an email address?
If you did that could explain the multiple tabs being opened. What may have happened is you have the mailto protocol set to open Firefox which results in 100s of tabs opening when you click on an email address. For details on fixing that see [[Firefox keeps opening many tabs or windows]], in particular the section on "Change the action for a content type". My guess is you will find mailto is set to "Use Firefox".

  • When I click on an active link from another application, it opens the firefox application, but won't open open the page - it just opens Firefox or takes me to Firefox. No new tab or window is opened and the link is not displayed.

When I click on an active link from another application, it opens the firefox application, but won't open open the page - it just opens Firefox or takes me to Firefox. No new tab or window is opened and the link is not displayed.

Firefox sent an email to me to confirm that I had asked the above question. The email had a link to click. When I clicked it from Firefox, nothing happened. Then I opened IE, signed into Comcast, opened the email, clicked the link, and it brought me here.

  • How do I get Firefox to open in a new tab (instead of a new window) when I click on one of my buttons in my toolbar?

When I click on one of my buttons in the toolbar, Firefox opens that button in a new window. I would like to be able to click on one of my buttons and Firefox open it in a new tab instead.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== When I attempt to click on a button

Right click the FireFox button in your toolbar and look in the properties- middle tab...make sure that it only has "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" with no other link added to the end. I had a similar problem this morning and found a website had attached it's link to the end so it would always pop up first and would only open a new tab.
    Hope that fixed it.

  • Firefox is not letting me open another tab when I click the 'new tab' button. It says 'done' in the corner, but never opens a new tab.

Firefox is not letting me open another tab when I click the button or the 'new tab' in file. I have restarted my computer, installed an update, and I still have the same problem browsing.

In past threads, this problem has been linked with the Ask toolbar.

  • How to make firefox to open new a tab when you click a link in pdf

I have this pdf page that has a lot of links embedded opened on Firefox (24.7).
When I click the link on the pdf page, it jumps to the page on the very same tab.
Is there any way to open links on a pdf page in a new tab?
What value in about:config should I modify to make it happen??

    Hi,
You can't open link in new tab by middle click on PDF page...
You must be talking about behavior on normal web page.
    Thanks for your response anyways.

  • Hai i am using firefox 3.6.When right clicking on a link and a window opens up, i want it to ask me "Open Link in New tab" first, not second.

hai i am using firefox 3.6.When right clicking on a link and a window opens up, i want it to ask me "Open Link in New tab" first, not second.

First, you are using a version of Firefox that is very old and outdated. Please update to at least Firefox 3.6.27, or more preferably, update to Firefox 10.0.2. There are lots of bug fixes, security improvements, and much improved performance in Firefox 10.
After you do that, try seeing if you are still having a problem. If you are, is this that when you try to select "Open in a new tab" it opens in a new window instead? Or something else?

    Hello,
    ''jstavene wrote:''
can find nothing under the tools menu for private browsing?
Then it's not the same issue.
If Firefox is set to '''Never remember history''', then you're in “permanent private browsing” mode, in which case the menu item ''Stop Private Browsing'' will be grayed out. Perhaps that's the case, and you don't find the menu item easy to see?
    * [[Settings for privacy, browsing history and do-not-track]]
If that's not the case, then menu items can be hidden using the userChrome.css file. Check if it exists, and if it's there, rename it, then restart Firefox.
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/UserChrome.css
In Firefox Nightly (what will become Firefox 20), per-window private browsing has been added, so the menu item under the Tools menu is gone. It's been replaced by New Private Window under the File menu. I don't suppose it's very likely that you're using such a cutting-edge test version of Firefox though.
If that doesn't solve the problem, since it's a different issue, it would be best if you would ask a new question.

  • I am using firefox 3.6 due to compatibility with roboform.Firefox keeps crashing and when I click a tab opens in a new window don't want that.

This has been occurring for about 2 weeks.I need a version of firefox compatible with roboform.Very irritating that when I click tabs or links opens in a new window.

Firefox 4.0 up through the latest 10.0 version is compatible with Roboform7 or with the '''RoboForm Lite Standalone Extension'''. <br />
http://www.roboform.com/platforms/browsers/firefox - scroll down that page a bit
As far as troubleshooting your Firefox crashes, start with this: <br />
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox%20crashes#w_get-help-fixing-this-crash
Type '''about:crashes''' in the URL bar and hit Enter. <br />
    # Middle-Click the hyperlinks to bring up each Crash Report page in a new Tab; each page may take a few minutes to load.
    # '''Then copy'n'paste the URL of each of those reports into the message box here.'''
    # We'll see if we can help you figure out what is causing those crashes to happen.
If you can't open Firefox or keep it open long enough to get the Crash Report ID's, even in the Firefox Safe Mode - see the section entitled - '''''You can't open Firefox because it crashes at startup even in Safe Mode:'''''.

See [[Firefox keeps opening many tabs or windows]]
You can have infinite tabs opening if you have selected Firefox as the application to handle a file if you get an ''Open with'' download window.
Firefox should not be selected as the application to handle a file and you have to remove the action that is associated with that file type.
You can delete [http://kb.mozillazine.org/mimeTypes.rdf mimeTypes.rdf] in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder] to reset all actions or set that action in Tools > Options > Applications to 'Always Ask'.

I can only open one Firefox browser window. When I click the firefox icon from desktop or taskbar to open up another browser window it does not open. I am ablt to open up new tabs within the one window.

Have you tried: click Firefox button > New Tab > New Window '''''OR''''' CTRL+N '''''OR''''' File > New Window (if using the Menu Bar)
Once open, Firefox locks the Profile that is in use and you can not open another window with that Firefox version and Profile combination using the Windows Desktop icon or the Windows Programs list.
