When I open a new Tab the page defaults to an unwanted page.

When I open a new Tab the page defaults to: "http://www.somoto.com/139/%7B666DAB7E-0C0D-4161-9E9E-F4170E4A3EB9%7D?s_src=newtab". My homepage is set to something entirely different. Is it possible to change this default to something of my own choosing?

    Firefox just updated to version 14.0.1. When I clicked on one of my book,marks from the listing, nothing happened. The page did not load. • When I open a new Tab, it's filled with an unwanted site. How do I open a blank page in a new Tab?

    Seems like an unscrupulous web site had made itself the default New Tab location. Every time I open a new tab, the unscrupulous site appears. I simply want a blank page when I open a new tab. How do I get rid of this "default" new tab setting?

    You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
    *https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/
    Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).

  • I use high contrast mode (am visually impaired); just upgraded to 8.0. When I open a new tab, the background does not high contrast, showing white until the page loads. Is there a setting that can be adjusted to fix this, or is this permanent?

    I use Windows Vista, and I use the default Alt+Shift+PrtScn high contrast mode for white text on a black background. I only notice when I click a link that opens a new tab or open a tab via the mouse wheel that becomes the main tab. I can't switch tabs fast enough if I click a link that doesn't open as the main tab to tell if the problem persists. The duration of the non-high contrast background is only as long as the page takes to load. There does not seem to be much lag, but the lack of high contrast is painful enough that I have to close my eyes, so I'm not sure. On a related note, the new status information does not high contrast either, making it impossible for me to read.

    There's a hidden setting for new tabs. Here's how to access it:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''newtab''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the '''browser.newtab.url''' preference and enter your preferred page:
    * ''Page thumbnails (default)'' => about:newtab
    * ''Blank tab'' => about:blank
    * ''Built-in Firefox home page'' => about:home
    * ''Any other page'' => full URL to the page
    Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked. Fixed?

  • When I downloaded new version of firefox, the feature where when I open a new tab a page loads that contains mini-windows containing my most visited sites. where is this feature now!?

    So with the new version of firefox I lost the feature where, whenever I opened a new tab, instead of a blank tab page, a page would appear that contained mini-windows containing pics of all my most often used websites. I could then simply click on one of maybe six windows to go directly to my most used sites. What happened to this? I really, really, really miss this feature. How can I get it back?

    The Google Toolbar and other extensions for Firefox include a list of compatible Firefox versions. Currently, the Google Toolbar only goes up to Firefox 4. However, people have tested and it actually works on Firefox 5, so there are two workarounds:
    (1) Edit a file to revise the range of compatible versions
    (2) Install an add-on that lets you ignore the range of compatible versions
    This thread has info on both approaches: [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/837142 google toolbar does not work with firefox 5.0. why not! | Firefox Support Forum | Firefox Help].

  • When I open a new tab, the brouser goes to a blank page. How can I get it to open to my default home page?

    If I have opened firefox, and I am on my igoogle home page, and if I click the add page button to open a new window, the new pages opens to a blank internet page where I have to type in the new web address I want to go to. This started happening after I added a record button to record internet video and audio. I ended up removing the record program and buttons, but now I cannot figure out how to get a new page to open at my home page address of igoogle.

    Hi,
    You may have to change the setting in the application itself or disable the app in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Add-ons''', click '''Extensions''' on the left. If that doesn't work, try to uninstall the application. Please also see [http://funmoods.com/terms this] (the third bulleted point).

  • When I open a new tab, the address area populates with an unwanted, unused address, it doesn't go there, I don't want populated automatically, how to fix?

    When ever I open a new tab in Firefox, this address populates the address bar: chrome://quick_start/content/index.html. Now, I don't have anything against it, but I can't seem to get rid of it. I have been to my settings and add ons and that doesn't work. Tried to see if I could find it somewhere in my internet settings on my computer control panel. I just had somebody delete some serious virus and adware issues with my computer, and I'm sure they put this in there. How do I get it to stop? If I call the place who fixed it, they'll probably charge me for fixing it when it should be an easy fix.
    The page does NOT LOAD, it just populates the address bar, and if I hit enter, then it loads...help please.
    Thank you so much.

    jscher2000,
    SUCCESS!!! Thank you so much, it is so helpful to have someone who KNOWS what they are doing to give me advice. I have to admit, I had never even realized you could do that in the address bar to get to certain areas of your browser settings. Thank you so much and I am keeping a copy of your text so that I can check it out and roam around in there...I am learning HTTP, C++ and CSS right now, so I am really excited about learning this new trick. I don't know what else I can do with it, but it's definitely a keeper! Thanks again. Namaste.

  • In recent weeks, when I open a new tab, the bars to input a URL or search has disappeared. How can I restore this option so I don't have to use other browsers?

    I used to be able to type in a URL or search when opening a new tab. Now I only get the "panes" that show most recently opened tabs. I have been having to go to alternative browsers to go to websites not in my top 9 or to open new windows, which is a pain.

    Hello,
    The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. <br>
