When I open a new tab, why do I have to have the AVG query-why not home page

When I oopen a new tab, I get the Welcome to Tabbed Browsing presentation. What I get apparently is an AVG search page.
What I want is my home page-the same as I get when I first open Firefox.

I have my home page set up fine, but when i open a new tab it loads "delta serach" instead of the old layout of my most visited pages.

something has reset my new tab page to delta search, i want the original layout back with the page thumbnails of most visited pages that i had before. please help. very annoyed at delta for taking liberties in my browser settings.

Type about:config in URL
*Search browser.startup.homepage and change the value to google.com
*Search browser.newtab.url and change the value to about:newtab
*Uninstall the delta search from Extension/Toolbar
In order to uninstall a possibly unwanted extension, please do the following:

#Once the Add-on Manager has opened in a new tab, click the ''Extensions'' button on the left side of the window.

When I open a new tab in firefox I get a Bing search. I do not want that. I tried to disable it in addons but bing bar is not there.

I don't want any bing "stuff" on my system. Is this possible?

I had the same problem and this was due to a toolbar. To determine the problem, at the opening of my new tab, I used "page informations" in the "Tools" menu, and pop-ups, I clicked on "Medias", which my given the name of the toolbar in question through the visible url. hello, is there an icon on the top-right of the page that allows you to switch the thumbnails on or off?
otherwise you can either install the [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/ searchreset addon] to get rid of the problem or manually reset the page that opens on each new tab: enter '''about:config''' into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up), search for the preference named '''browser.newtab.url''' and double-click & change its value to '''about:newtab'''.

Why does Yahoo Search appear when I open a new tab, when Google is my default homepage?

Ever since I upgraded to 4.0, when I open a new tab the yahoo search page appears, but my homepage is www.google.com.
I have three tabs open at all times on my main foxfire window and always ask to restore them: Yahoo mail (my account), www.imdb.com, and http://www.timeanddate.com/calendar/. Anytime I open a new tab http://search.yahoo.com/?fr=freeze&type=W3i_NA,132,3_6,Tab%20Search,20110104,6894,0,16,0 appears, but my default homepage is set to www.google.com.
Interestingly, when I open a new window for firefox my default homepage of www.google.com appears, but http://search.yahoo.com/?fr=freeze&type=W3i_NA,132,3_6,Tab%20Search,20110104,6894,0,16,0 appears when I open new tabs.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in [[Safe mode]]:
* Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
* Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

Not sure why but when i open a new tab my top sites are no longer showing not even a toggle switch it's just one big blank white page? how can i correct this ?

When i open a new tab I can't put in the website I want to access why?

when I open a new tab it does not give me the option to put in a new web address. I used to have Facebook on Foxfire and I can't get to it to come up on foxfire anymore. It is not even in my history and it was one website I used everyday on Foxfire. I hope you can help so I can get it back on foxfire.

If the menu bar is hidden then press the F10 key or hold down the Alt key, that should make the menu bar appear.

Why does what appears to be odd writing come up when I open a new tab?

Lately when I open a new tab what appears to oriental writing shows up either beside what ever tab I'm using at the time or it may even go all the way across the new tab bar.

Why does a Bing seach engine box come up when I open a new tab?

When I open a new Tab, what used to be a blank page is now a page with a Search the Web box and it is branded "Enhanced by Bing."

Try disabling or uninstalling the SearchToolbar/1.2 extension and see if that stops.

I can not type a url in the browser window when I open a new tab. Why not?

I open a new tab click in browser window and see cursor but it does not blink. If I click in google search window it works fine. I can redirect using bookmarks but if I want to just type it in, it acts blocked or locked. Could I have done something to cause this? How can I fix this?

Firefox update 23.0.1, no longer automatically highlights the address bar content when I open a new tab.

The above. When I opened a new tab in the past, before the new update, firefox would automatically highlight the text in the address bar, and I could simply start typing from there the address of the site I wanted. I could quickly get to anywhere I wanted in less than a second. Now, I have to drag and click into the address bar every time. I installed an add-on called "custom newtab" but it just slows me down further due to a lag between the opening of a new tab, and the add-on kicking in and highlighting the address bar content.
What happens is this:
Click "new tab"
New tab opens blank and the text appears highlighted "google.co.uk" for about a quarter second.
Page loads Google and the highlighted text becomes unhighlighted for another quarter second.
Add-on kicks in and highlights the text "google.co.uk" meanwhile I've already begun typing and end up losing the first part of the words, sending me to random web pages and searches.
Why did this change?! Fix it please!

YES!! Thank you jscher2000! You sir are a legend. Thanks for this, changed the newtaburl in about:config, totally worked. Nope, never saw it happening! Speedy machine this one :P Yep, that change completely sorted the issue, just opened about 741 new tabs through the shortcut on my mouse just to celebrate. Updated Firefox, now when I open a new tab, there is two seperate google search bars; how do I get rid of the unnecessary search bar?

I updated Firefox, and after I restarted it, when I opened a new tab, I found that I now had two Google search bars: one next to where you type web addresses, and one right above my pinned sites (or my frequently visited sites). I'm just trying to:
1. Figure out why it is necessary to have two of the pretty much identically useful search bars when I really only need one (or can physically type Google in)
and
2. How do I get rid of the unnecessary second Google search bar above my frequently visited and therefore pinned sites.
If you have any ideas of how to remove this annoying addition, I would appreciate it.

I am guessing that you installed an extension, related to "new tab", which added the first search bar. Firefox 31 in includes a search bar for the "new tab" page; so now you have two.
Take a look at that extension (Options or Preferences) to see how to disable ones of those 2 search bars. Or see if an update has been released for that extension, specifically for Firefox 31, with an option to disable the search bar.

You can change this in Firefox's about:config preferences editor.

Firefox is adding advertising links to certain words on my website cornish-surfing.co.uk, and when I open a new tab an additional window opens with unwanted sites.
1. How can I stop these things from happening?
2. Why is it happening?
These things only happen when I’m using the Firefox browser. I use Sophos antivirus and firewall and the scans indicate my system is clean. So I’m assuming that it’s built into Firefox or there’s a security flaw with Firefox.
Can you let me know which and how I can stop it from happening?

hello, this sounds like a problem possibly caused by adware on your pc (certainly nothing that is shipping with a plain official firefox build).
please go to ''firefox > addons > extensions'' & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc). also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there and run a full scan of your system with the security software that you have in place and different other tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes] & [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner].

How do I disable the "New Tab opened" button that appears for 3secs when I open a new tab?

Dear Helpful Open Source people.
I would like to disable the "New Tab opened" that appears for 3secs when I open a new tab?
I usually open tabs from a search engine's results page expecting the links to be of varying quality. This means that it is efficient to open several links from that page and review and close them sequentially later. A reality of the output of search engines is that your 1st link is sedom the one you want.
This button clutters an already small phone screen. I've hardly the space to click outside it and move on often clicking it by accident. Waiting prevents me scrolling to click the next link for 3 seconds or worse when I scroll prematurely I accidentally click it and jump to that Tab prematurely. I don't need to be told what I just did. I know... There is a perfectly functional tabs button in Firefox Android that let's me jump to my new tab in less than second with 2 presses when I wish to do so.
I appreciate that it's "only" 3 seconds and a 1st world problem, but browsers and OS designers aspire to fast customisable function. Maybe there's a way to get rid of this button?

PS. Mozilla - great work with the Sync function keep developing!!

For some reason, Android calls that little notification bar a "toast" so that's the new tab toast. It was added in Firefox 12.
I can't see any preference to suppress it, so I think that would require filing a new bug (request for enhancement). If you feel strongly, I think you are the best person to file it.
