When I open an email there is a small blue box with a question mark instead of the picture. How do I change my settings so the pictures show up?

I'm not able to view pictures in gmail. Where the picture should be is a outline and a small blue square in the middle with a question mark. How do I fix that so I can see my pictures?

Try going to Mail/Preferences, Viewing, make sure display remote images in HTML messages box is checked.

No app installed that will view the pics and bar codes.
Which email client are you using?  Which version?
File suffix of the pics & bar codes?  Example:  .pic, .bmp, .jpg, etc.

Since upgrading to Mavericks, 10.9.1, pictures that come attached to emails no longer display.  There is only a blank space that after about 1 minute, has a small box with a question mark.  Double clicking on the box will open the image in a separate window.  It's very slow and tedious for multiple images.  How can I go back to attached and displayed  images?  If I click on "Forward", the images appear instantly in the email to be forwarded.

    Scott,
My problem seemed to fix itself.  Or, by shutting down the computer one night, instead of putting it to sleep, may have reset something.  Since updating to Mavericks, I always (or usually) let the computer sleep overnight or anytime I'm walking away from it.  A few days ago, I was updating notes for my kids about how to find all my stuff and how to turn on my computer, so I wanted to rewrite the start-up procedures for the iMac, just in case they ever need to.  Well, I shut it down one night so the following morning, I could write down each step.  Lo and behold, the images, etc. are all there again!  Solved, but I'm not sure why.

  • What does it mean when there is a flashing file folder with a question mark when trying to start computer?

When I try to start my computer a flashing file folder with a question mark is on the screen. I can't open anything up. What does this mean?

There are four general causes of this issue:
    1. The computer's PRAM no longer contains a valid startup disk setting when there aren't any problems with the disk itself. This can be checked for by pressing the Option key and seeing if the drive appears.
    2. The internal drive's directory structure has become damaged. This requires usage of an alternate bootable system to perform the repair.
    3. Critical system files have been deleted. This requires usage of an alternate bootable system to reinstall them.
    4. The internal drive has died or become unplugged. This is the most likely case if the computer took a sharp impact or there are unusual sounds coming from its location.

How do I change default settings in the author field when I edit or insert a comment in a PDF?

Generally it gets this info from the Identity in the preferences. Unfortunately, I know of no way to change the Login Name that shows up in the comments. I need to look at newer versions of Acrobat on other machines, this is AA8.

Why did you delete the hard drive?   If you delete the contents of the Macintosh HD you have no system to boot into.  That's what the flashing folder/? means.  What system were you using before deleting everyting.
You're going to have to install a system on the HD before you can boot.

  • On job application sites, when I submit, a window opens in encrypted code instead of text. How do I change this to allow the window to display text?

On the various steps to an online job application, when I click on submit, instead of a window with a text file popping up a window pops up with html or computer coding instead of text. How do I change this so I can properly utilize these site processes. I looked for the setting that allows both html and text and it is set to do so.

What is the content of that window?

  • What do I do when he only thing on my screen is a flashing folder with a question mark.

I had a few browsers open on my computer. I accessed my calendar and it froze. The mouse would still move, but I could not click on anything. Then the screen went grey with a flashing folder with a question mark. I turned the power off and turned it back only but only see the grey screen with the flashing folder. I tried resetting the PRAM but it still will not work.  Can this be fixed? Please help!!

You may have a disk error - could be an unrepairable physical problem with the drive, or a repairable file structure problem.
Hold down cmd-R (both keys together) as you start up the Mac, and keep them held down until you see the Apple menu. When it boots to the recovery partition, click Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk on the Macintosh HD. Let us know if you see errors there and whether or not DU can fix them.
    Good luck!

  • When I start my Mac air I get a flashing folder with a question mark

I am trying to start my Mac air and I get a flashing folder with a question mark. When I turn the power of it shuts down but wen starting it comes back

Just being clear about your situation.  When you hold down Option during boot it does not show a system volume or a recovery volume from which to boot.  At that point if you select a network boot and you do not see a spinning globe that persists there a good while as it loads the recovery partition over the network.  True?
A couple of more thinks to try:
Disconnect all of your external devices.
    Reset PRAM
Boot with the option key again.
Standard things to try (which is sounds like you already have attempted) A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac

  • What does it mean when trying to startup I get a grey screen with a box with a question mark flashing

My wife was getting the circling pinwheel so she shut down her MacBook Pro. When she started it back up we got the flashing box with a qestion mark in it. It will do that for a while then shut off.
    Any suggestions?

It usually is a sign that the MBP cannot locate the OSX.  Either the HDD needs attention or the connection to the HDD has failed.  You will need the original installation disks to address the HDD for repair or if you MBP came with Lion or later, boot to the recovery partition and see if the HDD can be repaired.
    Ciao.

  • When I open new tabs it is an AOL tab. I have Fire F as my homepage? How do I change this?

I set my home page to mozilla or yahoo, but when I open new tabs it keeps bringing up AOL search engine. I don't want this b/c it is useless and always brings up irrelevant search results. How do I change what tabs open up after homepage is set?

You should just be able to choose whatever search engine you prefer
    * [[Search bar - add, change and manage search engines on Firefox]]
There is however a possibility you may have some toolbar or other software installed that is changing setting. Initially look in your Firefox addons and Windows control panel for unwanted software

  • When I open a new tab usually it has little boxes with my most visited or recently closed tabs, but something about google came up when I reopened firefox and when I pressed close I could no longer get these features to show up on the new tabs, Help?

I'm not sure what the Google thing was but it was just a box with the Google symbol and it had an x at the top so I closed out of it thinking that it had nothing to do with the most visited and etc. I have restarted my computer and I still can't get it to appear, but when I go on the other accounts of the computer I can. Help?

You can modify the pref <b>keyword.URL</b> on the <b>about:config</b> page to use Google's "I'm Feeling Lucky" or Google's "Browse By Name".
