When I open Firefox a large Google covers the screen. I cannot access my AOL home page. How do I remove and gain access?
I downloaded the new version of Firefox and the above happened. There is no tool bar and I cannot get the Google off my screen.
Firefox 3.6+ versions have a feature to allow the user to hide the Menu bar.
Hit the '''Alt''' key to temporarily show the Menu bar, then open View > Toolbars and select Menu bar, so it has a check-mark. <br />
The F10 can also be used on most PC's to temporarily reveal the Menu bar.

Everyday when I open Firefox a msg comes on the screen that says "It is strongly recommended that you apply this update for Firefox ASAP. When I try to install, it will not connect to the connecting server so it just clocks forever.

Remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder.
You may need to delete active-update.xml and updates.xml as well if present.

If you have problems with updating then easiest is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
You may need to remove the Firefox program folder to do a clean install of the new version.
Do a clean (re-)install:
* Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
* Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
* Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
* Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox. -
when i open firefox it immediately goes to the bottom tool bar and keeps running. a new home page then opens and i cant close the one at the bottom because there is no icon. these hidden pages keep playing old youtube song and another one with adds running. how do i close these pages please? also if i minimise firefox to go onto say, email, i cant retrieve it and have to then open another home page. argggghhhhhhhh. help please. thanks and have a great, 'quiet' day. beth
This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

When I open firefox it is returning to the last viewed page instead of my homepage even though I have the settings set to clear history every time I close Firefox. I check and all of the previous history is still there and not deleted..
Make sure that Firefox closes properly and that that there are no longer Firefox or plugin-container processes left on the Processes tab in the Task Manager. Otherwise session restore will reopen the page(s) from the previous session.

When I open messages in my iPod touch the screen is black, I have no access to the keyboard and then after 10 secs, the screen bounces back to the home screen, why is this?

kenIf you prefer not to see the snippets on the about:home page or otherwise experience problems with a snippet then you can set the <b>browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl</b> pref to an empty string on the <b>about:config</b> page.
Delete the <b>storage\persistent\moz-safe-about+home</b> folder in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed ("3-bar" Firefox menu button > Exit/Quit) to remove snippets stored in IndexedDB and make Firefox use a default snippet set.
You can reset the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref via the right-click context menu to the default value to re-enable the snippets and make Firefox recreate the moz-safe-about+home folder.
You need to close and restart Firefox after changing the value of the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref.
You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location/address bar.
You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

I get this message whenever I open firefox or a new tab. Anything I had tabbed to the top has gone, and the original homepage which shows all my recent visits is invalid. The full message is:
The address isn't valid
The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded.
Web addresses are usually written like http://www.example.com/
Make sure that you're using forward slashes (i.e. /).

It's not that I'm typing anything in wrong, it's when I first open Firefox or a new tab. Instead of displaying the firefox page showing my recently viewed websites it's just an invalid URL. Why would I be blocked from this page?

When I open up Firefox the page is blank. I have to click on the tool bar to open it. Never did this before. In general options, it says on start up, "when firefox starts" And I have it set to "show my home page" Page is still blank.
Could you describe in a bit more detail what you mean by clicking on the toolbar to open your home page: are you clicking the Home button, or using reload, or using a bookmark?
Does the same problem occur when you open a new window (Ctrl+n), or only when you use your Firefox desktop icon?

Check whether the shortcut specifies any command-line parameters. Here's what I mean:
right-click the icon > Properties > Shortcut tab
The "Target" line should be selected. That line should not have any extra stuff after the following:
32-bit Windows:
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
64-bit Windows:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
If you see extra text after that, clear it out, save your change, and try the shortcut again. Any improvement? -
When I open firefox all I get is the page outline the contents of the page is missing
For 2 days now this is all I get when I open mozilla/firefox.I can see the outside frame of the page eg:facebook.But I can't see the contents of the page,It doesn't matter what site I try to access it's the same.I have cleared my cache,cookies,defragged rebooted and nothing seems to work.I even tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it and still no change.I rely on this browser for a lot of things I do.Help please!
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

When I visit a website, close Firefox, then reopen Firefox to go to another website, the previous one loads automatically. Why? How do I turn this off?

Try right-clicking on the Firefox bar in the Task Bar ''(bottom of the Windows desktop display)'' and select Maximize. The browser window should snap back into position. Then close Firefox using File > Exit, When you start Firefox again that should be fixed. If it isn't, try deleting the '''localstore.rdf''' file in your Profile folder with Firefox closed. The file will be re-built when you start Firefox. <br />

it looks like the left hand margin is way to big but i hav already looked at this and it is not the problem, and ive tried zooming in and out aswell and reseting the zoom ectHi - I think this is related to the Babylon Toolbar
Right Click on the toolbar in the grey area this is at top of the screen - If the Babylon Toolbar is ticked deselect it and all becomes well.

I can get to my home page with the Explorer browser. The problem is only on Firefox. I've run Spybot, Malwarebytes, and scanned with Microsoft Security Essentials, but the problem persists. I recently updated Firefox for AOL. And last night I installed updates for my Windows 7 operating system.
I just tried to automatically add troubleshooting information, but I'm using Explorer right now since I can't use Firefox, so the I can't download the file. Since I can't use Firefox I can't use the manual steps either.Go to Tools --> Options.

I put up a website in early December 09 running the Ultimate Fade-in Slideshow java script from Dynamic drive on my home page. It worked fine in Firefox and IE6-8. Got an email from the client today that the rotating photos were no longer working. Checked my computer running FF 3.6.3 and all was fine, but my laptop and another computer in the house both running FF 3.5.9 it was not working. Can't recall the earlier version(s) that also ran fine. Website is www.susantiksondds.com Any ideas of what I can do in my code to make it run in this version???
