Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
* You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
Thank you.

  • When first opening firefox I always have to click the icon twice before the browser opens.

When I first turn on my laptop and click the firefox icon, it shows that it's working. After a few seconds nothing happens so I click the firefox icon again and then it will open but now I have 2 open browsers.

You're right, you should be able to just start typing in either the built-in Firefox home page ("about:home") or the actual Google home page (https://www.google.com/). Are you using one of those, or a different page that has a Google search box?
There are some add-ons to manage the home page and/or new tab page that may affect where the "focus" is in the browser. Could you try starting up Firefox in its Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
I suggest doing this the next time you start Firefox. Simply hold down the Shift key when double-clicking the icon. You should be presented with a small dialog. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset).
Any difference? To return to normal mode, exit Firefox and start it again, not holding the Shift key.

  • I have a lot of tabs saved so they open when I open Firefox, but the first tab always changes into my homepage, Google. Is there any way to stop this?

I have 20+ tabs always open on Firefox and it's set to remember them. However, when I open Firefox the first tab changes from what I had open there into my homepage, Google. I can use the "go backward" thing to get to the page I had there, but since it goes back to Google every time I restart the browser that gets tedious.
The only way to solve this that I've found is to just stop trying to use the first tab and let it be Google. However, I'd like some actual solution that stops this from happening if possible.

Thanks for the reply, it seems to have solved my issue.
My tabs are normal and unpinned, I just have Firefox set to open all my current tabs. Safe Mode didn't seem to have this issue, so I disabled Classic Theme Restorer. Several restarts didn't have problems, so I enabled it again and now this isn't happening anymore. Hopefully it stays gone for good and didn't just stop momentarily.
Edit. So as soon as I posted this, it started happening again. More testing definitely points to Classic Theme Restorer as the cause, so I'll have to investigate solutions on that end.

You get message "firefox is still running" and computer restart doesn't help you. Try the advice below.
Make sure Firefox isn't running (end firefox.exe process in Task Manager or restart computer)
    Find your profile folder
    C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default
find file "parent.lock" in it and delete it (the file is empty, its function is to signify to Firefox whether it's already open or not).
Then try to open Firefox again. Will it start or not? What will it say?

  • When I open Firefox there is absolutely no toolbar at the top. No 'File' 'Edit' 'View' 'Favorites' 'Tools' 'Help' buttons, no anything. Any idea's??

When I open Firefox there is no toolbar at all. I have tried deleting and then re-downloading it, but when I click on the icon on my desktop, all that comes up is a page that says "Widgets, Gadgets, RSS feeds, and more." There is no search box to surf the web, there is nothing.

  • Have FF 15.0. When I open FF I always get following message: Norton Cofidential does not support FF 1.5, as if I have 1.5. What's up?

I have FF 15.0. When I open FF I always get following message: Norton Confidential does not support FF 1.5, as if I have 1.5. How do I fix this. Do I not have a secure site?

It is most likely because Firefox 15 is in beta, so norton hasn't added full support for it yet. I'd except them to update their software in the next 3 weeks (Firefox 15 gets released in about a week and a half).

  • When I open Firefox, 8 tabs automatically appear. How do I make just the homepage tab appear on startup?

When I open Firefox for the first time, 8 tabs always appear. Not only the homepage tab but 7 other tabs (mainly from add-ons I have installed). How do I make just the homepage tab appear on start-up?

    Hi,
Please try removing the homepage entries in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Options''' > '''General''' > '''Home Page:'''. For some add-ons, you may have to go into their settings.

When I open firefox before connecting (via 56k modem) or if I leave a previous section open, disconnect and then reconnect, firfox does not work, it remains offline, even though internet is connected. I have to close firefox and reopen

Thanks for the reply. I never get the option to "Restore Previous History" from History. I don't even have the box checked that asks to delete the history when Firefox closes. I don't know what's wrong, no matter what, I always lose everything. I have the box marked "Show my windows and tabs from last time" for when I open Firefox, but it never shows that, just my homepage. Also, when I check my History, it only shows the pages that I opened since I started Firefox, nothing from before. Even if I were to open up 10 pages now, close Firefox, and open it, the history would only show the homepage that opened this time, not any of the 10 pages that I opened 5 minutes ago.

  • I want to change the home page that appears when I open firefox

When I open firefox the "ask.com" opens up as the homepage. I want to use another website as a homepage

-> Tap ALT key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar
-> go to Help Menu -> select "Restart with Add-ons Disabled"
Firefox will close then it will open up with just basic Firefox. Now do this:
-> go to View Menu -> Toolbars -> unselect All Unwanted/Incompatible Toolbars
-> go to Tools Menu -> Clear Recent History -> '''Time range to clear: select EVERYTHING''' -> click Details (small arrow) button -> place Checkmarks on '''Cookies, Cache''' -> click '''Clear Now'''
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> General -> '''When Firefox starts : select "Show My Home Page"''' -> Type the address of the website which you want to be your HomePage e.g. http://www.google.com
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Content -> place Checkmarks on:
    1) Block Pop-up windows 2) Load images automatically 3) Enable JavaScript
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Security -> place Checkmarks on:
    1) Warn me when sites try to install add-ons 2) Block reported attack sites 3) Block reported web forgeries 4) Remember Passwords for sites
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Advanced -> Network -> Offline Storage (Cache): click '''Clear Now''' button
-> Click OK on Options window
-> click the Favicon on SearchBar -> click '''Manage Search Engines''' -> select all Unwanted Search Engines and click '''Remove''' -> click OK
    -> go to Tools Menu -> Add-ons -> Extensions section -> REMOVE All Unwanted/Suspicious Extensions (Add-ons) -> Restart Firefox
You can enable your Known & Trustworthy Add-ons and Themes later. Check and tell if its working.
