When I open Firefox, it doesn't return me to where I was before.

When I open Firefox, it doesn't return me to where I was before and when it crashes, i don't get get a dialog box asking me to return to your previous page or to start a fresh one.
What can I do?

What do you have set in Options > General > When Firefox starts:? Do you have multiple sessionstore files in the profile? If so, it would be best to delete all of them and start over with collecting tabs.

i know there is a classic theme addon for windows but i need a fix for osx...its very frustrating when you update and things like this change and cant be customized back to the way we are used to using the browser. its counter intuitive to have the refresh page button so far away from the back and home buttons.

Is Classic Theme Restorer only for Windows? I thought it worked on Mac, too. Some of the pre-selected interface items like the Application Button may match old Windows versions and you may need to deselect those in its Settings dialog.
To access that dialog, you can use the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Command+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions, the on the right side, look for the Options button below Classic Theme Restorer.

  • When I close firefox it doesn't really close it seems to be hidden. Then when I try to start it again I have to Alt, Ctrl, Del, go to process , turn it off then hit it to start again. I can not get it to open in the hidden process that it is in

Apparently when I close Firefox it doesn't really close. I get told when I try to open Firefox later "Firefox is still open, you must close Firefox, Then reopen it. Then I hit Alt, Ctrl & Del, go to process's then I have to close it then reopen it. It does not open until it is closed in process's.

The process can take a few seconds to close. Sometimes you need to use Task Manager.

Make sure that Firefox closes properly and that that there are no longer Firefox or plugin-container processes left on the Processes tab in the Task Manager. Otherwise session restore will reopen the page(s) from the previous session.

  • Why does "My Yahoo" open in a new tab [only after a restart of the system] when I open Firefox and my options are set to restore tabs?

after a system restart, when I open Firefox, a new tab appears with My Yahoo displayed. I have my options set to restore session/tabs, with my home page listed as blank [not the best, i know]. I have not installed any new programs, other than Norton, to 2010 and have only done updates as required.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

If you use [[Clear Recent History]] in Firefox 3.5 and later or [[Clearing private data|Clear Private Data]] in Firefox 3 to clear the 'Browsing History' when Firefox is closed then restoring tabs from the last session ("Save & Quit" or "Show my windows and tabs from last time") doesn't work.

  • When I open Firefox, it goes to the first page and then stops, saying "Not Responding" with the cursor spinning. What can I do to fix this? Thanks for any help

When I open Firefox, it goes to the first page I open, but then stops and says "Not Responding" with the mouse cursor spinning. I hit the close button and it says Windows is searching for a solution (which doesn't come).
When I open Firefox again, it says:
    Well, this is embarrassing.
Firefox is having trouble recovering your windows and tabs. This is usually caused by a recently opened web page.
    You can try:
Removing one or more tabs that you think may be causing the problem
Starting an entirely new browsing session
Any ideas? I gretly appreciate any help. Thanks!!

    What is that first page?
Can't you open any web pages in Firefox?
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.
A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

I get this message when I open Firefox and when I go between tabs.
    TypeError: PC_PREF_OBJ is undefined

If you close Firefox, then start Firefox in Safe Mode, does the problem still occur? For instructions on starting in Safe Mode, see [[Safe Mode]].
Extensions can sometimes be the cause of problems. If the problem does not occur in [[Safe Mode]], then you can disable your extensions one-by-one until you find out which one is causing the problem.

I always chose "save & quit" when I close and sometimes all my history is gone when I open Firefox again. Why? It just happened again. Can I get that history back?

You get message "firefox is still running" and computer restart doesn't help you. Try the advice below.
Make sure Firefox isn't running (end firefox.exe process in Task Manager or restart computer)
    Find your profile folder
    C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default
find file "parent.lock" in it and delete it (the file is empty, its function is to signify to Firefox whether it's already open or not).
Then try to open Firefox again. Will it start or not? What will it say?

  • WHEN I OPEN FIREFOX MULTIPLE FIREFOX BROWSERS OPEN

When I open Firefox multiple FireFox browsers open approx. 17. The first 1 you see is your homepage if you X it out all of the rest are netflix. The other odd thing is unless you click the home button when you close firefox the next time you open the browser you will go to the last page visited.

I have the same problem. Firefox 11.0 crashes when loading latimes.com.
Running on Mac OS X 10.6.8
When I loaded it in safe mode it returns the following error as it crashes:
Error occurred during initialization of VM
java/lang/ClassNotFoundException: error in opening JAR file <invalid CEN header (bad signature)> /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Classes/classes.jar
I'm running Java Plugin version 1.6.0.29 (the most recent).

  • I don't see a Sync option when I open FIrefox Preferences, how do I proceed?

I am wanting to set up Firefox on my Iphone. The instructions advise me to go into FIrefox preferences on my computer (macbook pro, OS 10.5) and open up the Sync option in the preferences. When I open Firefox (3.16.13) and go to Preferences, I see, from left to right, General, Tabs, Content, Applications, Privacy, Security and Advanced. No Sync. WHen I look at the SYncing instructions there appears to be a Sync option, but there is none I can find on my computer. What am I missing/not doing?

    Hi!
Updates are automatic when you are at the latest version. Is there any reason why you are still on 3.6?? If you move to the latest version (Firefox 8.1) you will have Sync and automatic updates.
Firefox 3.6 doesn't include Sync on the browser. If you want to use it you should upgrade to Firefox 8 by visiting the following link: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/fx/

  • Firefox will not open because "error:platform version 1.9.2.13 is not compatable with min version =1.9.2.12 or maxVersion =1.9.2.12 " is in a window when I open Firefox

It started a year ago when I opened Firefox I got an error message, so I removed firefox & re-installed it. Still no go! So I opened "C" drive & searched for anything "firefox" & found a 2002 version!! I deleted everything, restart, & installed firefox and what I get now is what you see above.
OS is XPpro, sp3 + many updates.

    Do a clean (re)install:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Don't remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • I have a lot of tabs saved so they open when I open Firefox, but the first tab always changes into my homepage, Google. Is there any way to stop this?

I have 20+ tabs always open on Firefox and it's set to remember them. However, when I open Firefox the first tab changes from what I had open there into my homepage, Google. I can use the "go backward" thing to get to the page I had there, but since it goes back to Google every time I restart the browser that gets tedious.
The only way to solve this that I've found is to just stop trying to use the first tab and let it be Google. However, I'd like some actual solution that stops this from happening if possible.

Thanks for the reply, it seems to have solved my issue.
My tabs are normal and unpinned, I just have Firefox set to open all my current tabs. Safe Mode didn't seem to have this issue, so I disabled Classic Theme Restorer. Several restarts didn't have problems, so I enabled it again and now this isn't happening anymore. Hopefully it stays gone for good and didn't just stop momentarily.
Edit. So as soon as I posted this, it started happening again. More testing definitely points to Classic Theme Restorer as the cause, so I'll have to investigate solutions on that end.

  • When I open Firefox my homepage comes up (good!) but often a second page/tab comes up with an annoying ad. My pop-up blocker is enabled and there are no exceptions listed. How can I stop this?

I recently had a virus attack and have cleared them with Malwarebytes Anti-malware. This problem didn't happen before the attack. In addition to happening when I open Firefox, occasionally an unwanted ad will pop-up in a new tab while using Firefox.

Firefox can store multiple home pages, check to make sure that the ad site is not listed as a home page. See [[how to set the home page]] for details.
You should run a scan with some other scanners to ensure that malwarebytes did not miss any. Some scanners you can try are:

  • When i open firefox from my desktop, it won't open as a full page, only a tiny page when i mouse over the firefox icon on my taskbar

if I open firefox, it doesn't go to my home page, instead my desktop stays up. if I mouse over the firefox icon on the taskbar a tiny homepage pops up but you can't make it bigger.

This has happened to me many times but on the older FF 3 It could be a small bug, One should list the PC's being used as it could be related? Mine is an E-Machine Mod, W3609 running W7.
