When I open Iphoto it does not open.  Just spinning

I have been trying to open Iphoto for several days now.  When I do open it, a black screen appears with a white spinning wheel.  I let it spin for quite a while and it will not open.  Any suggestions?

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later:
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Since updating iPhoto it has ceased to open.  I have tried to Hold down the Command and Option keys on the keyboard which is the suggested solution to then open a suggested solution to rebuild the library,  but it does not work.  iPhoto still does not open.  can someone please help?
    thank you

    Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
        Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
    2 - delete iPhoto's cache folder(s):
    Home/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
and, if there is one, the
    Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:

    Hi,
I want to transfer my Photos from Iphoto (10.4.8) 6 on my Powerbook to my new MacBookPro with iPhoto 8 (10.5).
How can I do that without loosing my albums.

    Thanks

Simply copy the iPhoto Library Folder from the Pictures Folder on your old machine to the same location on the new one. The launch iPhoto. That's all.

Mail shows in the doc, but when clicked or doubled clicked does not open on the desktop, HELP !

    Try restarting your Mac.
Open Termimal (Applications/Utilities/Terminal)Try entering this command: killall Dock, and then hit enter
Try dragging the Mail icon out of the dock, then let it disappear in a puff of smoke. Then from Applications/Mail try dragging the Mail icon back into the dock, and see if it works.
Does Mail open otherwise? Like if you try opening it from your Applications folder?if it doesn't:
Boot into your recovery partition (restart, hold down ⌘R until you see the Apple logo), and use Disk Utility to repair your hard drive. Repair permissions too while you're there. OS X: About OS X Recovery
if that doesn't work: reinstall Mavericks over your current installation.

  • How come when i use personas firefox does not open to homepage, i just get a blank page?

when i use a persona firefox does not open 2 my home page, but rather to a blank page.

    Thanks for responding Chris.
I hadn't restarted after disabling SearchMenu. Having restarted, it would appear that the problem was, in fact, SearchMenu. Which was my suspicion. Once Find highlights a "word" SearchMenu interrupts to offer its services. I guess I'll post on their board, to see if there's a solution.
I should have restarted before posting. My apologies. Rookie move.
    Thanks again, Chris.

  • PDF in Frame - Open Web Link does not open in new window

    I actually have 2 problems.
    1. Acrobat 7.0.9. Added a link to open a web page. When the pdf is viewed from within a frame on a web page, the web page link in the pdf does not open in a new window but replaces the pdf in the frame.
    2. If I download the pdf to my workstation and open it and click on the link, it does open in a new window BUT opens up 2 browser windows where the 2nd one opened is blank (yes, I am single clicking on the link)
Issue 1 occurs in both IE 6, IE 7 and Firefox ?.??

    Try Ctrl-Y for preview.

  • DNG open in library does not open in develop module

Something that never happened to me before:
A DNG image that is in my library already since 2007 , edited, keyworded and in a collection does not open in the Develop module.
Screen stays black though the preview is visible and the photo in the filmstrip is selected.
When choosing CTRL-E (Edit in Photoshop) is opens normally in CS5 as a DNG
In LR when I make a virtual copy the image is visible (of the virtual copy) and I can edit it.
I tried to export this picture as a catalogue but the problem is still there when I open this catalogue on my Laptop.
In LR when I try to import the picture there is no problem though develop history lost of course.
But develop changes are there , I can reset the photo.
It also opens  as a Raw in PS CS 5 without a hitch.
It looks like the develop history became corrupted of that one photo , I hope
    Frans

I sincerely hope I will not stumble upon more pictures like this.
Because I found this one by accident.
And I don't see a way to check my whole catalogue for this error.

  • Mail app does not open, mail app does not open, mail app does not open

Mail app does not open at all. When pushing the button nothing happens

    Try resetting your phone:
Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the Apple logo, then release.

  • "Open with Dreamweaver" does not open DW

When I use Transmit (FTP program for Mac) or I have a file (html) on my desktop and use the "Open with Dreamweaver" menu in Finder, then Dreamweaver does not open first time. I have to do it again for it to open. This does NOT happen with CS5 Dreamweaver.
Oh, and DW CS6 is damn slow.

Pages does not open .PDF files. TO do so you will need iBooks which is an Apple app that is free in the app store.
    Good Luck !

  • Iphoto file does not open in external editor

I have selected Photoshop Elements as my external editor in iPhoto.  When I select a picture file and click 'edit',  Photoshop Elements working space opens but the picture does not appear.  (Same with Silkypix, the Lumix Raw editor).   This is a new bad habit that came with Mavericks.
I can fit both working spaces on the screen and drag the photo into Photoshop Elements, but I should not have to do that.

Which version of Photoshop Elements and iPhoto do you have?  The newest version, Adobe Photoshop Elements 12?
Other than the previous versions of Elements, Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 installs the editor directly at the top-level of the Applications folder, so there are no longer any nested folders to select the editor application from.
But there is a weird glitch, when I try to use it as an external editor in iPhoto.
When I select a photo in iPhoto 9.5.1 and ctrl-click it and use the command "Edit in External Editor" from that panel, Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 opens with an empty window, like you reported.
This does not work: Elements launches on an empty window:
But when I use the "Edit" button in the footer of the iPhoto window and double click it, Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 will open with the photo in the Editor window.
    This does work:
So, for the time being, use the Edit button to launch your external editor, if you are also using iPhoto 9.5.1 with Mavericks 10.9.4.

  • Iphoto library does not open.

    Hello there!.
It shows like this when i open it. ( Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable..Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library. To do this, quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Command keys pressed. You can also try restoring your photo library from a backup). I already delete it and download it again but it shows the same problem.
    I am using imac.
    Please help me.

  • When creating PDFs, the PDF does not open.

I am using Acrobat Pro X...and have had no problem creating PDFs.  Suddenly today when I create the PDFs, although they are created, the PDF does not automatically open upon creation (I have to go to the file folder location and open the PDF).
I tried repairing the Acrobat installation and that didn't help.  And actually when trying through the Control Panel, a 2nd PDF printer was created which I cannot figure out how to delete (they both are listed under the same Adobe PDF printer).
So, the main issue is fixing so I the PDF automatically opens upon being created.....but if someone can help with the 2nd PDF printer that would be appreciated.
    Steve

The check box is in the default properties of the Adobe PDF printer, under the settings tab. Get there with Start>Printers>select Adobe PDF and right click to check printing preferences. This is a selection, not a reason to reinstall. How it got unchecked is a different question.
If there are Adobe PDF printers present, just delete one of them or rename the second one to something else (like Adobe PDF backup).

    Try Download BatchMod from
    http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
And apply it to the iPhoto Library Folder using the settings found here:
