When i open itunes the following message comes up

everytime i open itunes this message comes up "itunes has detected that it is not the default player for audio files. do you want to make itunes the default player for audio files"
does anyone know what this means?
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Aoife,
It just means that it has found another player on your PC, possibly Windows Media Player or something like it that is currently the default player on your system. It is asking that whenever you want to play a music file if you want iTunes to be the default player and use it instead.

Reboot you system, if you have not already done so - this should take care of the "in use by another application" part of the message.
If the problem persist you will need to create a new library or to repair your library, or to restore it from your backup.
If you do not yet have any images in your iPhoto Library simply move it to the Trash and hold down the option-key while launching iPhoto again. This will give you the option to create a new iPhoto Library or to pick another one, if you have other libraries.
To fix your current library, or to restore it from backup, if you already have pictures inside that you need to save, see Terence Devlin's posts here:

  • I'm trying to download Firefox 4, but the following message comes up: Downloading/Volumes/firefox/o5we?qDe.part.part could not be saved, because an unknown error has occurred. Try saving to different location. What does this mean?

When trying to download to download Firefox 4, the following message comes up: Downloading/Volumes/Firefox/05weDe.part. could not be saved because of an unknown error. Try saving to a different location. I have a Mac OS X Version 10.4.10. I think I should be able to download Firefox 4. I have Firefox Version 3.6 now.

I am often getting this kind of error, although I believe it's less frequent with Firefox 4 than with the previous version. I do not know a proper solution, but I have noticed this:
    * If I simply try to re-download, it will fail again.
    * If I clear the list in the download window, I can download the same file without any trouble.
I believe the problem may be related to the antivirus software. The file is downloaded completely, and instead of moving it to the final position Firefox gets confused and deletes it.

  • Aperture (3.4.1) no longer opens and the following message appears: There was an error opening the database for the library "/ Users / Andrea / Pictures / Aperture 3 Library.aplibrary." How can I solve this problem? Thanks

I was using Aperture (3.4.1), when he appeared a notice that asked me to stop the Mac with the power button. When I restart Aperture no longer opens and the following message appears: There was an error opening the database for the library "/ Users / Andrea / Pictures / Aperture 3 Library.aplibrary."
How can I solve this problem?
    Thanks

After a system crash your Aperture Library may be corrupted, because Aperture may not have been able to finish the ongoing database transactions.
Have you tried the Aperture Library First Aid Tools?

Try "Repair Database", and if this does not help: "Rebuild Database"

    Hello, fletch72.
Thank you for the question.  I see you have uninstalled, reinstalled and the error is persisting.  Try one more time uninstalling all components of iTunes in the order specified of the article below.  These steps must be processed in the order specified or the error will persist.  Once this is done attempt to install iTunes again.

  • When I open itunes theres a message and then closes

When I open Itunes there's a message that says unknown error -45054 and the only option is to click okay and when I do it closes, why is that happening and what can I do to stop it. I'd appreciate any help

Open the iPhoto Library package as shown in this screenshot:
Look for a folder named "Importing" or "Import" (not Auto Import) and move it to the Desktop. Launch iPhoto and see if the message is gone.  If it is look in that folder and see if the image file(s) in there are any you want to preserver.  If so import them from the Desktop.
