My solution to my original problem of stopping FF from intruding with an erstwhile search doesn't work. Firefox IGNORES my settings to NOT check for updates to addons (letalone disabled and unwanted addons). It continues to check when I reopen FF. What a PITA>
Further, it gives me no solution. Just takes more than a minute of my time waiting for it to stop.

Sometimes when I open my laptop back from sleep, I get a black screen with the cursor showing.

Recently I've been getting this weird problem where my macbook air will show a black screen with only the cursor visible that I can move around but nothing else can be done to get to the desktop. The only way is to close the lid and wait for around 10 or more seconds and then open the lid again to bring the laptop back from sleep and hope that the laptop goes to the lock screen and then to the desktop. This works often but sometimes the only solution seems to be to restart the laptop. This also happens when I tilt the lid to the point where it is almost closed and when I tilt it back the screen presents the above state. Theis has been happening often now and it is almost impossible for the above not to happen atleast 2 to 3 times a day. iThis is a relatively new problem that has been occuring since the past two weeks or so and never happened to me on my Macbook Pro 15 2011. My current system is a Macbook Air 11" 2013 Haswell 1.3 Ghz 4GB RAM 256 GB SSD. Now I dont want to have to send in my laptop if I dont have to if there is a way I can solve this myself. Anybody else have this problem?

I would be concerned too if my MacBook Air was not waking from sleep appropriately. For an issue like this, I recommend resetting your System Management Controller (SMC) and NVRAM.
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

When I open launchpad it freezes everything. I had to restart my computer all over again. When I click apps it won't open. There are lots of things with the same icon.

You can find the serial number either in About this Mc in the Menu bar under the , or it should be on a sticker under the foot of the machine.
If you have the install discs, try booting from them, holding down the c key and then using Disk Utility to check the drive.
You can also boot into Safe mode
To start up into Safe Mode (to "Safe Boot"), do this:
   1. Be sure the computer is shut down.
   2. Press the power button.
   3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key.
      Tip: The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
   4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple and progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.9, you will see "Safe Boot" on the Mac OS X startup screen.
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login window, which appears even if you normally log in automatically.

When I open my iPad the page is too big for the screen and won't shrink down. The keypad has also become very 'sticky'

Recently when I open any apps the pages are too big for the screen. They shrink when pinched but immediately become bigger again. It's very difficult to scroll too. The keypad has become very sticky. Missing letters and spaces when I type and needing to tap the keys much harder than usual

I have the exact same problem, I think. I was on my iPad 3's home page swiping R-L to locate a certain icon when all of a sudden the screen appeared to get HUGE. So big I could only see one or two icons. I couldn't even turn it off to try a reboot because after I pushed the sleep/wake button, I couldn't find the red slide bar. when i open reader two AcroRd32.exe*32 processes open and do not close after closing the reader. i have seen 10 AcroRd31.exe*32 processes open. do I have an undetectable virus or is the software just poorly written and tested. I am running Windows 7 premium that is fully up to date and the reader is up to date also. i have even deleted reader and reinstalled it.
All 8 Processors activity jumps really high while AcroRd.exe*32 is running with no pdf documents open and as soon as i end the processes the processor activity goes down to near 0 according to the performance tab in task manager. My fan also kicks on because of all the heat from the processor.

open acrord32.exe and go to edit, preferences, internet, and then uncheck "Allow fast web view" and "allow speculative downloading in the background". This will save your processor and keep your system from locking up from all of the acrord32.exe processes running.

Try this:
1. Quit iMovie
2. Restart the Mac
3. Repair permissions (open Disk Utility in your Applications/Utilities folder), select Macintosh HD and choose repair Permissions from the buttons displayed
4. Move iMovie preferences (or trash them). They're at <your usenrame>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iMovieApp.pList (the name might vary slightly, depending, but will always start com.apple.iMovie...)
5. Delete the iMovie cache (in <your username>/Library/Caches, called com.apple.iMovieApp or similar. Delete the whole folder
6. Restart the Mac.
Hopefully, that will fix it

I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP! Yessssss!!!

I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.

Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process. Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal. No flashing yellow screen anymore!!

I'm on Firefox 16.0.2. About a week or two ago this change spontaneously happened. When I open a fresh tab, I want to see a blank screen. That's what I'm used to. Now for some reason my new tab is populated with up to nine websites that I visited previously. I do NOT want this! How do I change it back to get a blank screen??

This means that the whole content of the message is replaced by the content of the preceding message. I cannot see the message and have to ask the sender to send it again. Why is this, is my mail system overloaded or what?

This usually indicates folder corruption.
Right click the problem folder and select Properties. Then Repair Folder.
Be prepared to lose messages if the corruption is too bad. It might be a good idea to move any messages that you want to keep to a new folder. Make folders under Local Folders to sort your keeper emails into. It is a good idea not to keep lots of mail in the Inbox anyway as you will see when you read the attached article.

Select the compound clip and do Clip->Break Apart Clip Items (or Cmd-Shift-G).
