When I place a PDF in Illustrator the size is distorted.

I'm running Adobe Illustrator 8.0 (sorry for the old version). I've always placed TIF images with no problem but when I try to place a PDF the size comes in distorted in both directions. It comes in a couple inches narrow and at least an inch taller than the image. I also found that opening a PDF in Illustrator results in the same distortion. I've confirmed that the size properties of the PDF are correct. Does anyone have any ideas what I need to do to allow the PDF to come in at the correct size?? Thanks all.

Illustrator 8 was released around 1998 or so, if I remember right. That would have been around pdf 1.2 (acrobat 3). Acrobat is now at, what, 9? (pdf 1.6 or 7) The plain fact is, pdfs are much more complex, containing more data, than they did 12 years ago. Probably, Illustrator 8 just doesn't know what to do with it, or how to interpret it.
I'm amazed that it works at all, actually.
Sorry I don't have a better answer for you.

See [[Firefox keeps opening many tabs or windows]]
You can have infinite tabs opening if you have selected Firefox as the application to handle a file if you get an ''Open with'' download window.
Firefox should not be selected as the application to handle a file and you have to remove the action that is associated with that file type.
You can delete [http://kb.mozillazine.org/mimeTypes.rdf mimeTypes.rdf] in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder] to reset all actions or set that action in Tools > Options > Applications to 'Always Ask'.

    Only with pdfs

This particular file is a PDF Portfolio, which needs Flash to display correctly. When you open a PDF Portfolio in the Adobe Reader mobile it will open in list view to get around the fact that Flash isn't supported on iOS. So, it won't open properly in a native viewer on iOS only within the Adobe Reader.

  • Save a PDF that preserves the size when opening.

I start with my photoshop file. I save as a pdf. When opening PDF it opens 2X the size of my orginal photoshop file. I then hit command 0 to see orginal size, but it still is much bigger than my photoshop file.
I would like the best viewing experinece for my PDF and I want it to open exactly the size of my photoshop file. It is annoying when it opens bigger. How do I do this?
    Thank you for your help.

Well, your "Viewing size" is really an abstract idea. The size you see it on screen obviously depends on your zoom factor. In Photoshop you might view it at 100%. In Acrobat, you can't really see it at 100% pixel size. The Acrobat defaults are to open documents as continuous pages, single pages, fit page in window, maximize the width on screen etc.
Also consider that 100% pixel view in Photoshop is not 100% size in Acrobat, because Acrobat considers the size of the document in inches or cm. But 100% pixel view in PS will be the same if it's 72dpi or 300dpi. See you might have a 1000 px wide image, and in PS the 1:1 view takes up, let's say for example, almost  your whole screen (if your monitor is 1280x1024). But if you image is 500dpi, Acrobat thinks that it's only 2 inches wide, and will display it very small on screen, physically about 2 inches wide.
I believe that in Acrobat you can set some document properties for initial display, but you have to do that in Acrobat, not Photoshop. I am sure of that. So you might be able to adjust it somewhat.

  • PDF's printing the size of postage stamp

Recently when I try to print a pdf from any program on any printer, an 8.5X11 document will print the size of a postage stamp in the upper right or left hand corner. Settings in printer drivers look fine and print preview looks fine, but actual print is very, very tiny. This has been happening for the last 3 weeks, but pdf's were printing properly before this. I have not made any changes to my computer or to either of our 2 printers. One other person in our office is having problems with this, but everyone else is printing pdf's just fine. Could there have been an issue with an update?

Adobe Reader X; printer driver shows document size as 8.5X11 and the print preview appears to fill the 8.5X11 space. Document and paper size both set at 8.5X11. Also verify portrait/landscape is set properly - print 100% - print actual size - choose paper source by pdf page size - output size same as original size - uncheck shrink to fit...

  • When saving doc as PDF, it creates the pdf but it is blank. No graphics or text appear.

Working in Illustrator 30-day trial, and when I save the document as PDF, it is blank. When I view the PDF file, it looks like a blank white sheet of paper. Any suggestions?

    armandoa,
    There is no such restriction.
You may DoubleClick the Layer in the Layers palette, to see whether it is set as non printing/template.

Which viewer do you use to display the PDF file in Firefox?
Is that the PDF viewer extension ([https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/pdfjs/]) or the Abode Reader plugin or another extension?

  • When I place a pdf file into a PM7 document it is blurry.

I have two pdf files that I want to place on the same page of a PM7 document, but the images show up very blurry. What gives? Why would a pdf file not show up crystal clear in a PM document?

There is a learning curve but you need to be aware that PM has ZERO
support for PDFs with transparency. You were fortunate this time. Next
    time, probably not.

  • When I print to pdf on Mac, the first page comes out fine but all the rest are magnified and shifted up and right

I click File>Print. Whether I open pdf in Preview, save to pdf, or just print, I get this error. The first page is fine, but all the rest are shifted up and to the right and magnified.
I've never been able to print out a multi-page document on Firefox with my new computer. I can copy/paste the address to Safari (gross) and it prints just fine, either to pdf or to a hard copy.
Save me from having to use Safari!

Making sure the fonts were embedded helped some, but it's still hit and miss. Sometimes I'm still missing pieces. One workaround I have found that works is just print one page without security to PDF, and then go back and replace the bad page(s) with them. So it will print properly, just not all the time. I have a copy of a word page and then what acrobat did to it. I just need to figure out how to post it here.
