When I plug in headphones or use audio jack only one speaker works.

I have an iphone 4g.  When I plug in headphones only one side works.  When I plug into my car audio jack...only one car speaker works.

There is only one speaker, the other side is the microphone.

This being the Mac mini forum, I naturally presumed you were asking about a mini. But in any case, there's only speaker in an iPhone as well.
    Regards.

    Have you tried another headset?
Do you have a case on your iPad that is preventing the jack from being pushed all the way in? (Try it without the case).
If not to all of these you have a damaged headphone jack and you will have to get it fixed.

  • Audio in only one speaker

    What did I do now?
I finished the video, uploaded it to youtube and my friend says it's only audible in one speaker (I hadn't noticed but after he mentioned it I realized he was right).
A few days ago I had been screwing around with the audio for the video... but I have no idea what I did. Any guesses on how to fix it?

Sorry, I'll try to explain it the best I can.
I had been trying to delete the audio in the clips (because it's a music video so I had the recorded track that I wanted for the audio) and the audio for the clips weren't showing up in the timeline but I HEARD them so I might have done something to the audio mixer... (later the audio tracks did show up on the timeline but I have no idea how or why.)
Right now when I view a clip in the viewer and open the audio mixer, the bar is all the way down at -96.... is that normal? I know I screwed around with controls like that but the ones I worked with had meters all across the pop up window, not just the "master" one on the side like what I'm seeing when I open the audio mixer right now.

  • I have an iPhone 4, and when I plug any headphones in, including the new apple ones, they just sound like the speakers are blown, but when I pull the jack out a little bit they sound fine?

I don't know what to do, considering I just bought these headphones and it's the phone which will not let them play. Any help?

Could be a contact problem. There are certain places inside the headset port where proper contact is needed for the various functions the Apple headset has, for example the Remote/microphone unit that cheaper headphones don't have.
You should have your phone checked by an Authorized Apple Service provider or by visiting an Apple Store next to your place.

  • Iphone 4G music plays through bluetooth, but only one speaker works in my car when i play it, why is that?

This problem suddenly started about a week ago. i had both speakers working, then after i updated my phone one skeaker stopped working on the driverside like with a pair of headphones when the left headphone stops working. only thing is i don't have to physically plug in my phone to listen to music, i use bluetooth, my car came with the option. i was wondering if its because the balance got changed in my phone some how or if its something else. please help!

for troubleshooting I would try another bluetooth device to make 100% sure that it was an iphone issue

  • When I plug my headphones in the my laptop I still have sound from my speakers and headphones

Hello, I'm having trouble with the sound on
my laptop and it's only just started to happen.
When I plug my headphones in the my laptop my speakers don't get muted, So I
have sound from my speakers and headphones at the same time.
I've reinstalled the drivers and this didn't work, So I'll hoping you can help me.
HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC, Product number A8M62EA Windows 7 64-bit

Here's the trick (and it's been verified on 3 other Win 7 systems):
    1) R click on your speaker icon, select 'Recording Devices' (if you have the sounds dialog up, it's the 2nd tab 'Recording')
    2) R click in the white space, be sure that BOTH "show disabled devices" AND "show disconnected devices" are checked.
    3) **Now this step is going to take a little bit of thought for each computer being used: on my laptop (HP Elitebook) I get a device "Stereo Mix", ENABLE this device.
    4) Click on Properties, go to the tab 'Listen'
    5) Check the box "Listen to this device", also change the drop-down box below "Playback through this device" to be your second audio device
-- To verify that you've done this correctly, go back to the Sound dialog tab Playback, you should now see both of your audio devices showing the little green graphs moving.
Here are the specific settings that I have on my laptop, maybe this will help with your settings:
    Speakers- GN9350 (Default Communications Device)
Speakers- SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio (Default Device)
Stereo Mix- 'Listen' feature points this  device to my GN9350 headset.
Let us know how it goes!

    Hey there Srkupo,
It sounds like your vocal audio is not working with your headphones connected to your iPhone. I would start with the troubleshooting from the following article to help troubleshoot them named:
Resolve issues with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch accessories
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2634
    Update your software
Install the latest version of iOS. You can see which version is on your iPhone by going to the About screen.
If the device doesn't update successfully, the issue might be with your device and not the accessory. Learn how to check your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Disconnect and inspect the accessory, then restart your device
Disconnect the accessory and turn it off, if possible.
Inspect the connection between the accessory and device and make sure that no debris or other damage is present.
Restart your iOS device by turning it off, then back on. When the Home screen appears, reconnect the accessory.
    Try a different device
Make sure the issue is with the accessory, if possible. Always use an identical or similar, compatible device with the accessory you're troubleshooting.
If there's static coming from the left audio channel when you use headphones, try connecting the headphones to a similar device.
If the device isn't syncing when connected to the dock, connect it directly to the computer using the Apple 30-pin to USB Cable or try another USB port.
If you're using Lightning to 30-pin Adapter in a connection chain, try using the same adapter on a similar or identical device.
Restore iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Restore your iOS device. You should rarely need to use this step with an accessory issue. If the issue only affects a third-party accessory, contact the manufacturer before restoring the device.
If this does not resolve the issue could you elaborate on where you are listening to this content from to help isolate the issue?
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

I just received a brand new iPod touch as a gift. But when I try to play music on it the speaker is extremely slow. When I plug in headphones I hear nothing. Tried multiple headphones. Tried a restore.  It never dropped or anything

    Try here:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
You said you restored the iPod. Was the restore successful, that is, it went though all the steps without errors?
Try a restore to factory settings/new iPod if yuhave not doe so so far.
Are you  using the headphones that came with the iPod? Are you inserting the plug fully
Have you tried another set of headphones in the iPod?
The speaker is not that loud.

I would like to inform you about an error occurred when I upgraded my firmware to IOS 6
When I plug a headphone/earphone into my, then unplug it, the volume turned out to be unadjustable
I have attached 2 screenshots of the error, pls help?
    Thanks.

Try a rest: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the iPad shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, turn the iPad back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.

When i plug my headphones into my Ipod touch and listen to music, the volume automatically reduces slowly so I can't hear anything. Please help.

Thank you. That is good information.
Does this mean that there is nothing I can do about the delay? When I think of a delay, I think of maybe 10 seconds. I am having to wait for a minute or more for my audio to switch. While I wait, I have no audio and any audio program hangs. Is there a setting I can change? It seems rather ridiculous that I have to wait so long just to switch from internal speakers to headphones.
It is like this on other Mac machines? Or it is just my iMac? I hate to compare Mac to Windows, but on Windows or Linux computers the switch is instantaneous.

  • My balance sounds horrible when is at the center ... it only happen when I plug my Headphones... if a move the balance to the left/right i have a mono sound in my headphonesleft/right

My balance sounds horrible when is at the center ... it only happen when I plug my Headphones... if I move the balance to the left/right i have a mono sound in my headphones left/right

I too am experiencing this issue after upgrading to Mavericks. Headphone audio balance seems to always stick to the far right. When moved to the center, it still only outputs sound to the right side. I have to constantly adjust the setting a little to the left of center for both sides to output sound equally.

I am getting no sound on my macbook pro. The sound does not play when I plug in headphones either.  I have tried making it louder quieter, restarting my computer, HELP!

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. If your model has an audio-out (headphone) port, and anything is plugged in, unplug it before putting the system to sleep.
    3. If you've installed something called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and reboot. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. If you've installed an equalizer called "Boom" or anything similar, update or delete it and reboot.
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select the Output tab. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them. Move the Volume sliders all the way to the right.
    7. If a red light is coming from the audio-out port, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Reboot and test.
    9. Boot in safe mode. Don't log in; just reboot as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    10. Reset the NVRAM.
    11. Reset the SMC.
    12. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data. For a possible shortcut, see this thread.
    13. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.
