When I press power button I hear several click sounds before start up begins. Shortly after Apple logo appears it clicks off.
Which MacBook Pro do you have? If it has an optical drive then that is just the optical drive checking if there is a disk inserted.

On my (rev B, 128Gb SSD) Macbook Air, pressing the power button does what it does on my other Macs, which is to immediately pop up a window with "Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now?" and buttons for "Restart", "Sleep", "Cancel" and "Shut down". Selecting any of these buttons does what you'd expect.
I've not heard of this issue before either. On the two Macbook Airs you can reproduce it on, do you have any software (particularly any sort of enhancing, system-utility sort of thing) that I - or most other Air users - would be unlikely to have? In my case mine is just normal OSX 10.5.6, with all patches, etc up-to-date, iWork 09 is installed as well as the XCode development tools. No system-level "enhancing" sort of software at all. Do you have anything connected via USB when this is happening? Anything logged in the "all messages" query in Console at the time you've pressed the power button? Are any processes doing anything badly-behaved all the time (ie does Activity Monitor show a runaway process) and you're only noticing the bad effect when the bit of code that does the popup window on the Power button press tries to run? -

Last night my macbook pro gets off automatically when battery gets empty and in the morning it isn't turning on. When i connect the charger, the light on the charger turns green to orange (showing that it is charging) but when i press the power button it suddenly changes to green again. I thought there must not be any connection between the charger light and the power button. And battery meter was running fine.
When it tried this again and again the charger light disappear and battery meter also stops working, when i clearly observe it there is a very dim green light in the charger (not observable in the light) and the laptop is still not showing any change.

I can't boot my IMac. I loaded OSX and first mail then contacts start acting up.
I shut down and now the iMac won't boot. When I press the power botton it comes on, I see Apple logo, swirl and a bar which saw loading for a few seconds and then shuts it self off.

If you're still having problems try a 'Safe Boot' - restart holding down the shift key until you see a grey progress bar. Once booted restart as normal from the Apple menu.
If that doesn't work, boot into the Recovery HD, launch Disky Utility and check the Macintosh HD using the 'repair disk' option. If anything gets fixed click on repair disk again until you get a clean pass, then restart as normal from the Apple menu.
To start into the Recovery HD restart holding down Command + r

My new HP Split X2 2 in 1 is not starting all the time when I press power button.
I brought HP Split X2 2 in 1 (tablet com laptop)1one week back and I have the prob from day 1. Press the power button for 1 sec to 10 sec for 100 tmes a day, it is starting only once per day. No one knows at which attempt it may started it may be 10th or 50th or 100th. Certenly in the begining of the day it is not startng. If it starts by luck, then it works. After it start, even if u do a shutdown and restart, it works. But go to sleep and wake up in the morning, my attempts starts. Customer care talks to you politly but each time each member has diffrent solutions. Its a defective piece..

MacBook Pro crashes when I press power button to shut down
Installed Lion (10.7.2) on a 2010 MBP yesterday; had to replace the hard drive as it failed the SMART test. Everything seems to be working fine until I press the power button to shut the computer down. It freezes solid every single time. I have to then hold the power button down for 10 seconds so it restarts.
Anyone else with that issue?I reset the PRAM/NVRAM which, incidentally, is different than it used to be. No more chimes; instead a screen which allows you to run Disk Utility, which I did. Also repaired permissions.
I reset the SMC which I thought would solve the problem considering the power button is managed by it. No luck.
I've disabled the tablet extension because I'd seen an error mentioning it somewhere and I've updated Growl to 1.2.2 although not the new Lion-friendly 1.3 because people seem to have a lot of trouble with it. Still, it's an option.

Hallo ,I have an IMAC 21.5. which does not start.When i press the power button i hear only beep with an interval of 4-5 seconds.Some times when i take off the RAMS and put them again then get a white screen and shows that i have to insert a bootable device.Then i bought OSX mountainlion on line and wrote it on a DVD and tried with a USB key board to start the DVD.But does not work.Please help me to get this imac work.

Have iPod Nano Shuffle 6th Gen. I purchased it when I had Windows Vista. I have since upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate . Was fine with Vista. Now, it keeps shutting off during the song, 3 or 4 times. Have to press power button and then arrow to restart song. I went to my iTunes and ran diagnostics. Passed all until the end. The last test had a red dot failure. It said no iPod, iPhone, or iPad found. Does someone know how I can correct the problem? iTunes is always updating, so I am current.

Recently having problem with flickering on monitor (viewsonic vg2436wm). When coming out of sleep mode. It will flicker, the screen goes gray, sometime out.
