When I put my iPad in its charger, it charges and a minute later, it says not. Charging
Plz help me. O even have another problem which is that the iPad dosent charge until i shut down the power, place e charger in the slot, and turn it back on. So i see guest help me with both of those
1. Try a reset
2. Clean docking port with clean paint brush
3. Try another wall socket
4. Try another cable
5. Try another charger

USB ports on computers do not normally provide enough power to charge the iPad so its normal to get the Not charging legend.

I removed the AMDS as part of the instructions for completely removing itunes. Nothing changed unfortunately. I don't understand why it is happening!
I have already checked for lint, etc as you suggested, but don't have another USB cable on me at the moment. I'll be returning home tomorrow so will try then, but I would have thought the cable was fine as it still charges the phone through an AC adaptor fine. Thanks for the suggestions! -
I had a red screen appear after turning iPad off and on. Red line remained at top and pictures were blurring in the display. I reset and a few minutes later it fixed itself. Should I avoid turning iPad off. I have an upcoming plane flight.

Skype Causing Battery to say "Not Charging"
I just bought a new Macbook Pro.
15", 8GB of Ram, 720 GB HDD with 7200 rpm, and 2.4 ghz i7 with antiglare screen.
Anyways I find that whenever I use Skype, my Macbook stops charing and at the top it says "not charging".
But as soon as I close Skype, it instantly starts charing and will recharge my battery in about an hour and a half.
I am running Lion 10.7.2 and have all update installed.
Is anyone else having this issue with their Mac?Skype is a horrendous processor hog. It forces auto-switching to the power-hungry discrete GPU in any Mac that has one, and consumes such a huge share of the Mac's system resources that if anything else is drawing power at the same time, the machine may need more power than its AC adapter can provide. Battery charging is the first extra process to be discontinued under those conditions, allowing the power that was charging the battery to be used instead to meet the demands of Skype and whatever else is calling for power. This is normal, unfortunately.
If you're going to use Skype when your battery needs charging, first quit all other apps, disconnect all bus-powered peripherals, turn down screen brightness as far as you can stand, turn off wifi and Bluetooth if you aren't using them, and consider installing gfxCardStatus to prevent auto-switching to the discrete GPU. -
new ipad won't charge but i can download everytthing but the top says not charging and its at 20%
That is perfectly normal with the new iPad. Your USB port does not supply enough power to charge the iPad. This is copied from Apple's web site about the iPad battery.

They recommend you use the wall charger, not the computer and the cable, as many computer USB ports, are not 2.0 USB ports, and therefore are not powerful enough to charge the iPad. See the article entitled "Charging the iPad Battery" -

On the off chance try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. The screen will go blank and then power ON again in the normal way.] It is app and data safe!

I was typing an email to friend. My iPad says "not charging" when connected to my Mac, but it does seemo sync. What am I missing?
A lot of computers (especially older ones) generally do not provide enough power to their USB ports to charge the iPad at a sufficient rate - it may still be charging slowly, and should be a bit quicker if the iPad's screen is off (if you leave it for a while and then disconnect it from your computer you may find that it's battery percentage has gone up). The wall charger is usually the most efficient way to charge the iPad.

There are two different types of adapters by Apple that look similar. One is a 5 Watt adapter used with iPhones and iPods. The other is a 10 Watt adapter used with the iPad. Other than looking at the text on the adapter, which is hard to read, you can tell the different by looking at the socket the pin part plugs into the adapter. The 5 Watt has two notches and the 10 Watt has only one notch.
Make sure you use the 10 Watt adapter with an iPad.
