When I receive iphone calls it immediately rings as facetime. How to stop it

When some of my iphone contacts call, some default to facetime, while others don't. How can I make the decision who can contact me via facetime.
If I try and delete just the facetime portion of my contacts, it doesn't work.

reset all settings
settings-general-reset-reset all settings
now reconnect to wifi
settings- wifi- click network name- enter password - join
if issue persists back up and restore as new via iTunes

This is part of continuity. It will happen if both devices are logged into the same iCloud account and are on the same Wi-Fi network. To turn that off, go to each device, Settings>FaceTime>iPhone Cellular Calls>OFF! That will take care of it.

If you've checked the mute switch as razmee209 has suggested and it's not enabled, the next thing to check would be Do Not Disturb. Do you see a small crescent moon in the status bar? Check Settings>Do Not Disturb and turn it off.

There are a number of hardware devices that you may want to look at. Some of them require that the iPhone be placed into a "base station" in order to work. - During a phone call, if I put the conversation on speakers ==> it works and the volume bar reappears. I can control the volume with + and - buttons. But when the conversation is over, the bar disappears again.
- With the headphones, everything is ok!
- I also noticed (only a few times) that when I do a silent to ringer mode, the volume slider reappears and works correctly during 2 or 3 seconds, before disappearing again.
I don't know what is problem,because the speakers work.

my son had this problem. I went to the apple store and they wiped out and restored the phone.. They said that was all they could do but that I should call our phone carrier and ask them. I did. They asked if in the top left side, next to battery power there was a icon of a half moon. There was. They said to go in to settings and go to "Do not Disturb" and turn it off. I did.....problem solved!!! Somehow "do not disturb" was turned on and that is what happens if it is!!

The first thing I would check is Do Not Disturb mode, as this will cause that behavior:

If that isn't the issue, this article has slightly different symptoms but the troubleshooting would be the same:

Before you do step 10, however, I recommend resetting all settings to see if that helps. To do that, choose Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings.

Well, assuming all of the above, Notifications, etc., it just might be time for a visit to the Apple tore genius center for a session with the techs. See if it is a fault in the hardware or just an iOS reinstall is the answer.
One more thing you could try, backup so you have a record of content, then restore to factory conditions be an Erase All Contents and Settings. Then restore from the backup you just made. That has helped some with WiFi problems, may be it would work with your problems.
But with that behavior of another app with problems, the geniuses looks like a less stressful thing to do.

You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.

Ring duration & voicemail are all controlled by your carrier. Your issue seems to be voicemail...doesn't appear to be setup on your phone. I'm not aware of any carrier that permits a cell phone to ring longer than 30 ~ 40 seconds, so that appears to be normal. Contact your carrier as it looks like your issue is voicemail.

On a Mac computer the Facetime ringtone is VERY weak, even with the volume turned up. If you have your audio level adjusted to a normal level you may not hear it. A number of people have complained about it on this Facetime for Mac forum. On my iPad the alert tones when receiving a FT call is much more robust.

I have had this happen to me on 3GS, 4 and 4s. Usually the solution is one of the following:
1- If your volume indicator says headphones even though they are not plugged in, then:
Stick your headphones into the headphone jack and then remove quickly.
2. If that does not work Power your phone off. Then when restarting Reset the phone by pressing the home button and the power button at the same time until the apple logo appears.
3. Make sure you have not chosen to send audio to an Airplay device such as Apple Tv.

I'm having the identical problem on my iPhone 4 after upgrading to IOS 7--no ability to update apps or download new apps. Here is what Apple tech support emailed to me:

Mildly amusing that the instructions for force-closing a program are the IOS 6 instructions, which do not work on IOS 7.
Otherwise I'm having a little success with this. Some apps (not all) are updating. It seems that a few more apps update each time I go through the process (close everything, sign out, and either reset or reboot, then go to the app store, sign in and try to update all). So far it has been a very lengthy, iterative process.

Problem is solved, under settings/general/accessibility/ than physical & motor I had the incoming calls set to speaker and now on "default". Just called my iPhone and the speaker is off. Wow! Maybe someone needs this too

Who is your carrier? Are you actually on 3G?
Do you have 3G turned on or off? Settings > General > Network > Enable 3G
