When I scroll click to close a tab, it opens up 2 new tabs in it's place. This happens almost every time.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

The only way I can open a new tab is by right-clicking a bookmarked site and selecting "Open in a New Tab." I can't click on the New Tab + or CTR+T or open via File. WHY?!?

The Ask Toolbar is causing that in the Firefox 3.6.13+ versions. Uninstall that extension.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:

I should bring your attention to the fact that your user agent says you're using Firefox 3.6, not 3.0. I will remind you that Firefox 3.0 has been discontinued and is no longer supported. Furthermore, it has known bugs and security problems.
As for your problem, you may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] and select ''Disable all add-ons''. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. How do I make it the default that when I click on a link it will open in a new tab?

Particularly when I am doing a Google search, but also when I am in a site, I find I frequently have to right click and force 'open in a new tab' to avoid the link overriding the current tab. I want to have all links I click on automatically open in a new tab. My settings are set to go to the new tab immediately - that works fine - but too often I have to immediately back-page and re-click using the right-click menu to avoid losing my search or origin page. This is annoying when there are several links I want to explore, and have to backtrack to get to them.
Firefox is my default browser, 29.0.1 at the moment, and it runs on an old Dell laptop using WinXP. Before asking this I did check the available support info without finding an answer. Google search and other websites have a user preference that can be set to open a search result in a new tab or a new window, for users who are logged in to their website.
Otherwise, when you don't have a 3-button mouse or a scroll pad with "middle-click" functionality, you can use '''{Ctrl + Click}''' to open a hyperlink in a new Tab.

Hello. I have a Windows 7 HP Mini Netbook 32-bit. I just installed Firefox version 6.0.2 (the most updated one). Under
Tools ---> Options ---> Tabs, "Warn me when closing multiple tabs" is checked. However, when I have multiple tabs open and I click on "X" (accidentally one time), it closed Firefox. No warning at all. I tested it again and again (checking the box, unchecking it, then checking it again), and it keeps closing all my tabs without warning.
FYI...I also have a work laptop (Windows XP) and for some reason the "Confirm close" shows up when I try to close multiple tabs.

I click the X to close and the pop up choice is all actually the number of open tabs (3 or 4 etc) or cancel. When I use Internet Explorer I can close each one at a time. "close all tabs or just this one" until all are closed

I don't know whether that is a built-in option.
Perhaps you can get used to a different way of closing tabs... You should have a small "x" on each tab, or you can right-click a tab and choose Close Tab, or you can press Ctrl+w to close the currently displayed tab. What do you think?

WHEN I CLICK A LINK, IT DOESN'T OPEN IN A NEW TAB

I do a google search and then when I used to click a link it would open in a new tab. However it no longer does this. I have tried all the following remedies to no avail.
I have tried under Tools>Options>Tabs and checking and unchecking the open new windows in a new tab.
I have restarted the computer.
I have tried it in safe mode and still no luck.
I have tried typing in the url about:config and checked the specs but didn't work.
I tried "Open Link in new tab" add on
None of these damn things work and I'm frustrated as %$%$.
I am using firefox 25.0.1. What the heck can i do to fix things. Please someone out there help me with this I'm going insane.

For the Google website you can set preferences on the Google results page via the gear icon in the top right corner, click that button to open the menu list and select Search settings.

Can Firefox be set up so that when you click on a bookmark it automatically opens in a new window or tab?

I don't have an issue with how the tabs work. But, the other user of my laptop can not distinguish between the concepts of "x" and "+" leading to constant frustration as he opens bookmarks over the tabs he wants left open.
I thought it might help if a clicked bookmark opened automatically in a new tab or window rather having to click on the add a tab for a blank tab before opening a bookmark. But, I don't see how that could be set up, or if it can be, in the options menu.

Often, when I'm trying to close a tab, I get a drop-down asking if I really want to close it. Really Annoying.

Usually the tab is a site that is trying to advertise, or get me to fill out some form, etc.
It's very irritating that these sites have the ability to stop me from closing them immediately. Most of them carry data mining components, so the longer they stay open, the more likely they are doing something on my computer -- it seems to me that Firefox (which I prefer as a browser in every other way), by allowing the drop-down is complicit in their activities.

Those site rely on JavaScript to do that. One option is to use the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722/ NoScript] add-on which will block JavaScript, but gives you the option to allow JavaScript on trusted sites.

I want to open another.
- I can open by selecting NEW WINDOW from the file menu. It's normal.
- But I can't open by double-clicking on FF icon. The message happens in this case: "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system."
Before double-clicking on FF, I checked processs at Task Manager and just one process "firefox.exe" is running.
I try many ways to troubleshoot this problem such as:
- install FF again
- run safe mode
- Update all add-on
- add new profile in Profile manager and run with new one

But can't fix this problem.
