When I select 1 image Lightroom selects 2 images

Hello I am selecting 1 image in Lightroom 5. Two images are selected I cannot deselect the second image. this is causing huge problems and I cannot work around it. I did trash preference plist. I reinstalled light room 5. i made a copy of the cat. Now what? I am on a deadline and I cannot work.

Hi,
you might have enabled the Compare-function on a second monitor (that you have or have not). If that's the case, Lightroom will always select two photos to be compared. Click shift-C to disable the Compare function, select one photo, and see if Lightroom will still select two photos (normally not).

It's really frustrating as I like to use my keyboard arrow keys to move through my library of images, but when Lightroom keeps two images selected it just ping pongs between those two images. I deselect and try to move on, and it again leaves the previous image selected! By the way - I am not in Compare mode while this is happening - just in standard browsing of the library... I haven't used it for a few weeks, so maybe there's an update (Mac or otherwise) that's screwing things up? HELP!

I have an Edit In - Photoshop option, but not an Export - Photoshop option.
Obviously to have right-click Edit In to work, the photo you're right-clicking on needs to be selected. I assume this is not the problem, and that the photo is selected.
Mavericks 10.9.3 has a problem where the Users folder is hidden, and you need to update iTunes to fix it, but it's been a few weeks since this happened so hopefully you're up-to-date and the Users folder isn't hidden anymore.
If you can't get things to work, I'd uninstall LR and uninstall Photoshop, then install Photoshop, and update it, then install LR and update it, as a way to get any wayward security or other OS-level things reset.

Regarding Lightroom Slideshow module: When I click on the preview button I get the following error: An internal error has occurred: ?:0: attempt at index a nil value. This occurs with any group of images I select in my catalog.

If you follow the advice of the previous poster Julie Kmoch and then gradualy add presets back in one at a time you might be able to find the one that is causing the issue. I may be guessing, but I believe the issue has something to do with either an incompatible Preset setting (eg a older preset in newer version of LR) or a corrupt Preset.
Say you bought LR2 and imported a bunch of Presets from the internet, cuz 'Hey these effects are cool and I don't have to recreate the wheel', and then you upgraded to LR3 (not a clean install) and now one of the Presets that calls a certain slider setting or value that is different in LR3 doesn't work anymore. This might be why it throws the error, but again I am just speculating.

C:/Users/<YourUserName>/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Lightroom/Develop Presets
If you do not see the folder AppData, you may need to change the settings in Windows Explorer to 'Show Hidden Files and Folders'. To do that in Windows Vista/ Windows 7, open a Windows Explorer window, Click on Organize, then Foler and Search Options. Then click on the View tab and select the option button next to Show hidden files, folders and drives.

How do you expect anyone to help when we don't know a darned thing about the file, abut your setup, exact version of Photoshop and your OS, machine specs, etc.?

Can I set an initial project-specific browse location when selecting to insert an image?

Hello All,
I work with many different projects at a time and am closing and reopening RH often throughout the day to work on these diff projects. When I reopen a different project and try to insert an image for a topic, it tries to open up the directory for the last inserted image I selected irrespective of its project. I then have to navigate to the current project directory in the Open dialog. It's a minor thing, but all the minor things add up over time...
Is there a setting somewhere where I can tell a project to use a use a default project-specifc location when browsing to select an image to insert into a topic? I looked but couldn't see such a thing.

Hopefully my colleague won't mind a suggestion here. RoboHelp has a feature that may help you with this. The feature is known as "My Places". When you browse for an image, you have an opportunity to configure a destination that will then appear in the "My Places" bar. Hopefully the image below will help explain what I'm talking about.

You might note that in my own "My Places", I have a place called Shortcuts. This is really a folder with shortcuts to other locations. It's very handy to configure one of these so it appears in all your Windows dialogs. The link below offers help with that.

I have recently started having this problem in PSE8. The Adobe workaround
did work, but I don't fancy having to re register each time I use it.
What I have discovered is that it's nothing to do with the image metadata as it occurs before any image is opened.
It SEEMS to only occur if you use file/open with to open an image in the editor - IE start PSE with that command.
If you close elements down, and start it using programs/PSE/Elements (or your desktop shortcut) - the panorama feature magically works.
Each time I've opened the editor 'automatically' using image/open with, it seems to create the problem.

When I have finished working on an image in Photoshop and I hit the save button it goes instead to the "save as" screen. This never happened in previous Photoshop versions. When I get to Lightroom, I have a grey screen the says "File could not be found."

When I select the correct image, I get a message that it is not the same file name but I am eventually able to access the image. Needless to say this is having a negative impact on workflow!

The problem with write permissions for the OneDrive folder only shows up in Lightroom 6's export dialogue, that's why it's to irritating. Lightroom 5.7.1 is not having that problem nor does the file explorer. The problem also exists on both of my machines. Image Sequence...Cannot select multiple files for image sequence.

When I select Image Sequence in QT7 and navigate to the folder with the images, I am no longer able to select more then one image. Is the something that 10.6 has broken?
What am I missing?

If you only get the first file to import then I suspect the image files are not all sized correctly or the file names are not being recognized as "sequential".
I've done some tests to confirm this on my machine. File names with some using a _ (underscore) and others using a - (hyphen) import only the highlighted file. In another test I mixed in a single file sized just one pixel wider than all of the others and only the first file is recognized.

Selecting a group of Images? only last image getting adjustments?

sorry if this is a stupid question, but when I select a range of images and apply image rotation or stamp metadata, only the last image in the selection gets the adjustment that I apply to the images.
It seems that when I select the images, the whole group has a white boarder around it, but the last image has a thicker boarder around it, and that is the only image that will respond to a change. I must have hit some weird short cut key to turn on that option, how do I turn that off?
Please I need help asap, it's driving me insane. Thank you

There is a rectangle box on the bottom of the Aperture screen that is the primary only box. If you have that selected only the primary image will be adjusted.

Image editing selection tools in Aperture 2?

Are there any image editing selection tools in Aperture 2 (Magic Wand, selection box etc.)? If not, you can't make any corrections without effecting the whole picture. I guess that would just send you back to Photoshop or Elements for image editing, and then you might as well stay in the Adobe world.

This isn't what Aperture is designed for. The features you are asking about are not really photographic in nature - they are image manipulations that go beyond what Aperture is designed to do.
Think of Aperture more as a catalog that allows photographers to make the vast majority of adjustments they need to make to single images (contrast, exposure, white balance, dust spots, minor clone/patching, etc.). It also provides strong keywording and search capabilities.
Folks who need to do advanced image manipulations/compositing etc. will have to do it in PhotoShop, but they will lose the "library" functions found in Aperture. Lightroom is the same way - you have to export your pic's to PhotoShop to do serious editing/layers, etc.
