When i send a text to 1 person it goes to others which are not included.

hi.
just recently i have had texts from my wife to my sister inlaw sent to me and if i reply to either of them it goes to all of us.this also happens for them also.
today my wife had a text from someone else which i received also. this is strange as they dont have my number !!
any ideas ??

Yall are on the same apple id, Go to settings, messages, send and receive, start new coversation from, and use a different email on each phone from the other ones, and make sure there is a check mark beside that email. Also you each really should have your own apple id, thats the best way, but the other will do also.

  • When I send a text to someone, they receive it from my email address not my ph number, how can I stop this?

I recently upgraded to iOS 6 and am being told by my contacts that when I send a text they receive it from my email address (in their messaging app) and not from my phone number.
I have checked the send/receive settings in Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, the phone is set to send/receive default from my phone, yet the email sends it first.
I have removed and re added the email address, but have had no luck resolving the problem.
Has anyone else had the same problem? Is there a way I can stop it without turning off iMessage?
    Thanks in advance.

There is another setting for "Start Conversation from", that needs to be set to phone number.

  • I have 2 iphones and when i send a text message it shows up on the other iphone. How do i change this

I have 2 iphones and when i send a text message, it shows on the other iphone. How do i change this?

Go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and do one of the following:
Either uncheck the email address shown under "You can be reached by iMessage at" on both of your phones; or
If you want to continue to receive iMessages at this email address on one of your devices, on the other phone tap the Apple ID at the top, sign out, then sign back in using a different Apple ID (so both phones are using a different Apple ID for iMessage).  Note: you can continue to share an Apple ID for purchasing from the iTunes and App stores.  It does not need to be the same as the ID you are using for iMessage, FaceTime and other services.

  • TS2755 my iphone and my wifes iphone are one number apart. when i send a text to my wife it comes to my phone and not hers

I had to restore my wifes iphone 4. Now when i send her a text it comes to my phone instead of going to hers. Why?

"Sounds like you guys are using the same apple id for imessage.   You will need to create a separate id for you wife.  OR go to settings - message - receive&send and make sure your phone number is the default for both you and yoru wife.

  • When I send a text?

After installing iOS 6 on both my iPad and iPhone When I send a text message from my iPhone to another iPhone user but not any other phone type when they reply it comes back to my iPad And not my iPhone any suggestions?

This sounds like an iMessage problem. Check in Settings --> Messages --> Send & Receive. That screen lists "You can be reached by iMessage at:" as well as "Start new conversations from:" with a checklist of possible numbers and/or e-mails for each. Make sure your phone number is listed and checked in your iPhone Settings for both.

  • My iphone 4 shuts off and won't come back on and sometimes when i send a text the other person gets a blank message. Just got this phone and really don't want to put up with a bunch of problems

I just got the i phone 4 on Friday and it has shut off and not come back on twice. I was able to get it to come on by holding the top button down for a few seconds but i don't want to have to do that. Also, i am having a problem with texting, i will send a text and the person on the other end says that I have sent a blank text. Just need to know if this is something that is going to continue because if so then I will take it back and get a Droid

Assuming the phone isn't jailbroken, the basic steps (as needed) are:
Restart phone (you already did this)
    Reset phone
Restore phone in iTunes using a backup
Restore in iTunes as new, without using a backup
See appendix B of the User Guide for details
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iPhone_iOS4_User_Guide.pdf
If your phone is jailbroken, this is the most frequent cause of the problems you described.  Restoring could permanently brick the phone.
Note that your iOS is old and the current version is 4.2.8.  It's odd that it wasn't updated when your activated your phone in iTunes, being that you got it last Friday.

  • When i send a text in iMessage the person receiving it gets it from my email address... how do i change that. and in message settings the receiving thing has my email and phone number but my phone number is gray and i can't click on it

when i send a text in iMessage the person receiving it gets it from my email address... how do i change that. and in message settings the receiving thing has my email and phone number but my phone number is gray and i can't click on it help

    Hello Todd:
I had this very same problem when trying to activate iMessage and Facetime on my iPad. When I signed into my account, I actually wasn't even presented with the option of a phone number - notwithstanding the fact that I was contacting others (and being reached by others) by my phone number on my iPhone. Having both the iPad and the iPhone on, I kept trying to turn off and on both iMessage and Facebook in Settings on both my iPad and iPhone, hoping that that they would eventually sync. But this proposed solution by others was unsuccessful for me.
Then, I found out what the problem was: When my iPhone was activated, it automatically registered my phone number for contact purposes. I was using iMessage on my iPhone for quite some time without actually being signed into my Apple ID account. When another device - such as an iPad or iPod - is being used for iMessage or Facebook, you are prompted to sign into your Apple account, using your username and password. These two devices will not register your phone number as an option for contact unless your iPhone is signed into your Apple account as well. In other words: your phone number will not be synced.
Go into your "Settings" on your iPhone and click on "Messages". Scroll down and click on "Send & Receive" (which should be followed by your phone number). On the next page, you will be able to determine whether or not your iPhone is using the Apple ID for messaging purposes. (Note: This information applies for Facetime as well.) If it is using your Apple ID for messaging, than at the top, you will see "Apple ID: <your particular e-mail account>" in Blue text. However, if you are not using your Apple ID for messaging, than you will see the words: "Use your Apple ID for message". Even though below this you will see your phone number checked as the contact source, you will want to click the tab that says, "Use your Apple ID for message". Sign into your account (just as you must sign in for iMessage on your other devices), and just choose your phone number as the "Send & Receive" contact. (The option of the e-mail will be there too, but you don't have to check it. And later on, you can delete it as an option.)
Now that all of your devices are signed in using your Apple ID, the other devices should register your phone number as a choice. It may take a little while, however. What I did was sign out of iMessage on my iPad, and then sign in again. If the option didn't appear, I just went back and signed in again, and kept doing this until the option for the phone number appeared.
Again, this will work for Facetime as well. The solution is to sync your iPhone account with the other devices by using your Apple ID for messaging (and Facetime) purposes.
I hope that this works for you, Todd!   ~ Brian

  • HT1349 When I send a text, it goes through as "text message" instead of an "imessage" and the person has an iphone. What can be the cause of this problem?

When I send a text, it goes through as a "text message" instead of an "imessage" and the person I am texting has an iPhone. what could be the cause of this problem?

It's not enough for the other person to just have an iPhone. They must be on iOS 5, have iMessage enabled and connected to the Internet.

  • HT3529 when i send a text/imessge why does the person recieving it see my email address instead of my name?

when i send a text/imessage why does the person receiving it see my email address instead of my name??

iMessage requires both parties be using iOS 5. The iPhone 3 can not be upgraded to iOS 5, thus messages would be sent as an SMS (Text message)

  • When I send a text from my iPad, it shows that it comes from my email address.  If I then text that same someone from my iPhone it still shows as if its coming from my iPad.  How do I stop this?

When I send a text from my iPad, it shows that it comes from my email address.  If I then text that same someone from my iPhone it still shows as if its coming from my iPad.  How do I stop this?

On your iPhone, go to Settings -> Messages -> Receive At -> Caller ID and make sure the phone number is selected - this will cause new messages sent from your iPhone to appear to come from your iPhone phone number.
(I actually prefer to have my email selected, so that when I message someone from my iPhone and they reply, it goes to both my iPhone and iPad)
Also, when you send a message from your iPhone, make sure you're not replying within an existing conversation (that was created on your iPad and linked to your email). Just start a new conversation (even if it's to the same person) by going to the Messages app, going back to "Messages" (top left corner) if you're already looking at a conversation, and then clicking the Compose icon in the top right.

  • Msg 2114 error when i try to text this one person with my iPhone 4S???

I seem to have an issue when i try to text this one person.....
They do NOT recieve my texts.....but i can recieve theirs.
I get a message after i send them a text from 923-0 that says i used the invalid number of digits.....MSG 2114
Tried deleting the contact , resending just using the number hand typed in...and still does not work!
    HELP!!!

Finally Worked!  Remove all instances of the contact name and number used in previous messages, phone calls, recents, etc.  Shut down sms, mms, imessage, etc in settings.  Restart phone.  Go back to settings and restart sms, mms, imessage.  Send a text without creating the contact first, just enter the 10 digit cell number and send text.  Worked for my iphone 4s texting to 1 person's android I couldn't send before.  That 1 person was a previous contact that had only 7 digits entered  for the phone number.  Now I added that contact back to the list and sending text still works.  Contact phone number now shows up as +1 (xxx) xxx-xxxx .  Thanks wjosten.

  • IPhone 4 wont send a text to one person

i am unable to send a text to one person in my contacts. i have tried everything i deleted the contact and re input it. the only thing is when i start a new message the phone number comes up as other even though the contact has been deleted. Please Heelp

I've been having this problem as well, and it's incredibly frustrating. I called Verizon Customer Service and they were unable to help me, and I'm at a total loss. The person who is not receiving my texts is on a Droid and has T-Mobile. I was able to text her without any problems until Tuesday evening. She can text me, but she does not receive my text messages. There is no problem with actual phone calls. I already tried deleting the contact and resetting my network settings.

  • How do i block my number when i send a text on my iphone 4s

how do i block my number when i send a text on my iphone 4s

In the U.S. the FCC adopted anti spoofing rules applying to extend the "Truth in Caller ID" act. The specific recommendation from Congress read:
Legislative recommendations include clarifying the scope of the Truth in Caller ID Act to include (1) persons outside the United States, (2) the use of IP-enabled voice services that are not covered under the Commission’s current definition of interconnected Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service, (3) appropriate authority over third party spoofing services, and (4) SMS-based text messaging services
It is illegal to falsify the originating number for SMS messages in the U.S. This was originally intended to target telemarketers and text message spammers. The end result, though, is that is is illegal to block your phone number when sending an SMS message. A number (or unique, tracable, identifier, in the case of some automated system) must be sent since the recipient is charged for receipt of the message.
