When I send an email my contacts are changed in my Address Book on both my Mac and iPhone4.

All my contacts are entered only in the first name space. ie John Smith is entered as John Smith in just the first name entry space - I don't use the last name space at all. When I send an email, that person's address gets changed immediately my address book which duplicates the first name into the last name space. I have tried deleting all my contacts and resynching them from my iPhone but the problem persists. Can anyone help me fix this?
I am running an iMac with Lion and my mail client is Mail. My ISP is gmail.

Picking up old contacts where - are you referring to the email address autofill feature when addressing an email?
Did you transfer the backup for your old iPhone to your new iPhone?
Are you accessing an email account on your iPhone that provides over the air syncing for contacts such as a Yahoo account, Gmail account, or a MobileMe/iCloud account?
I am seeing contacts that I know are at least a year old, and current contacts in my Macs address book are not being sync'd up.
Does this mean syncing contacts with the Address Book on your Mac is not selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes? If so, has this ever been selected with your new iPhone? Deslecting this after it was selected does not remove contacts from your iPhone.

just enable iCloud sync and then configure, setup and then disable it. Re-setup Google and it will work

Not all Exchange contacts are showing up in Address Book

My exchange sync resulted in about 100 missing contacts in address book. Both outlook and iphone display the correct number of contacts...anyone else seeing this and know how to fix?

Oddly enough, my distribution lists are working, although they are invisible and thus uneditable... is this something we can anticipate a fix for any time soon?

I beleive they were synced with iCloud before I ran out of storage I then backup to my PC periodically.
My contacts switch is off, I have now slid this across and no contacts have come back. Is there any other steps necessary for me to take? Switch my phone off or reset again?

Email-only contacts become merged/corrupted in address book

I have many contacts in address book. Most of them have some combination of phone number, first name, last name, notes, email address, etc. Some of my contacts have all fields blank except the email address field.
I have some groups in address book that are mostly email address-only contacts, for example a group full of listserv addresses.
Recently I have noticed that somehow these email-only contact groups are being corrupted so that extra addresses are slowly being added to each contact, seemingly from the next contact in the list. How bizarre.
So, for example if I have a contact card with no name, phone, etc., just the address "[email protected]", and the next card in the group is "[email protected]" somehow after awhile when i open the first contact, it suddenly has 2 email addresses listed, jsmith, and psmith! How does this happen?
The corruption seems to coincide with syncing with the iPhone. Perhaps it has something to do with how syncservices handles email-only addresses when it syncs back and forth with the iphone?
Anybody else having this problem? I believe it is new to Leopard but maybe not.

Ok, so I thought I had fixed this problem, guess not. I have updated my os to 10.7.2 and installed the ios5 on my ios devices. The ios devises and icloud are working great. My problems is with the address book and it has duplicated all my cards so I have twice as many contacts now. In addition, I have additional blank birthdays on my calendar. I use to have Mobile Me and I turned that off. I did try and turn off icloud and delete everything in my address book and then re-started icould address. It worked to eliminate the duplicated cards for about 5 minutes. Then came the blank birthday events on my calendar. Any ideas?

Strange one...I have got contacts in my address book on my iMac that are not appearing in my iCloud account? Its really strange they are in my address book on my iMac but are missing on the iCloud address book? 203 contacts in my iMac address book but 127 contacts in my iCloud address book?
Do anyone else have this problem? If so any suggestions how to pull them all through?

You can't. At least not reliably.
There is a pseudo-standard for return receipts, but it requires support on the client side (e.g. the mail client has to have it turned on, so that it sends a note when the message is opened), but it is poorly supported (not many mail clients support it), and can be turned off, even in the ones that do support it.
The alternative is to include an image with a unique URL that you can track back to a recipient via the web logs, but even this can be circumvented if the client doesn't load HTML content.

I entered the wrong address in my contacts and now I cannot erase it . When I send an email this wrong addres still appears although it has been erased in my list of contacts..

Welcome to the Support Communities! The "From" field should be showing by default, but you can check or change your settings for Mail with the instructions below:

In the Composing pane, you can set the email account that you want to send new messages from.
Also, check the View command on the Menu bar. View > Message Attributes should have a checkmark beside the "From" field.

My attachments are not showing up when I send an email

When I send an email with an attachment, people tell me there is not an attachment, but I can see if on my end.

I think that's a good possibility. Has it ever happened between home email addresses? To troubleshoot this, you need to keep track of one attachment, who it was sent to, and where, then try that same attachment from/to another location.
