Hello,
When I send an Imessage the receiving party sees my apple id / email (is the same in my case) instead of my name from their contacts. This worked fine but sudenly it has changest. People reply with 'who are you'. When they send an Imessage to me from an old conversation witch used to work with Imessage it is send as SMS.
I have tried all settings under settings > messages.
I read on this communitie other people have the same problem but no one seems to have the solution.

I found the solution. At work we compared settings and several people had this same issue....
The solution is:
Settings > messages > receive on > Use Apple Id for iMessage - needs to be switched off.
Strange thing i don't know how ik got switched on....
But it is solved.

Use the Settings app tO check what's in your email account information.
Ssettings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Tap on your email account > in the Account Information is your name or your husbands name listed in the first line?

settings -> messages-> receive at-> caller ID -> [choose your phone number]
The advantage of using your email address is so that imessages sync across your icloud devices. But if the only apple device you have is an iphone, then your phone number would be the obvious choice to pick here.
Once ios6 comes out, this situation won't matter (they're fixing the sync of imessages across devices) -
i got my daughter an iphone 4s on tmobile payg but put her tmobile contract sim in it, but when she sends a imessage the bubble is still green ( shes not happy lol) any suggestions to get it blue please .......
If you're using T-Mobile in the US, T-Mobile is NOT a supported carrier of the iPhone. Not all features will work.

Sometimes when I make a call the receiving party hears a ring but neither one of us can hear the other. Is this my phone or the network I am using?
It appears to be a bug with the iphone 4S.

My iphone ipad and imessage are all interlinked with my hotmail (apple id.) However this now means when i send an imeesage from my iphone it appears tomy friends as my email, i don't want this to happen! Also when iphone users text my mobile number it doesn't come through to my iphone so i end up missing out on text messages a lot - how can i sync my iphone to receive all texts and imessages but to my mobile number only?Simply disable all incoming methods of iMessages other then your phone number.
Settings > Messages > Send and Receive at > You may be reached at > Unselect your email addresses.
Now when your friends send you an iMessage they can only send it to your phone number. -
When I send a link, the receiver of the link cannot open it by clicking on it.
I have set my default email properly and a link is able to be sent to an address but the recipient cannot open the link by clicking on it. I am using a new computer now and everything worked perfectly on my old computer.

That is happening (most likely) because Firefox is not storing your browsing history for long, or at all. Go into Tools > Options > Privacy and make sure the configurations are set as you want them to be. If they are, it's likely you have some security software that's erasing your Firefox's history (and possible other browsers' if you have them installed). The most likely suspects are antiviruses, firewalls and security suites, but clean-up utilities like CCleaner are also capable of cleaning Firefox's browsing history and other personal data. Make sure you don't have them configured to do so.
I should remind you, however, that some sites (they are rare, though) don't have their links change color when visited. That happens only when their authors deliberately make them not change the colors. You can force websites to use a color scheme of your choice by going into Tools > Options > Content > Colors... and unticking "Allow pages to choose their own colors". You can also configure the color scheme in that screen.

How can I get my phone to send IMessages from my phone and not my email ?
I had the same problem, but it was only doing it to one contact. I found an answer that worked for me in a previous post. Go to settings/messages/received at and then click on your apple id on the top of the screen and log out. Then log back into your apple id account by going to the messages screen and choosing to log in. You will want to turn your imessage off and back on again once your logged back in to reset it. That should work. If that doesn't fix it there is also a caller id option on the bottom of the same screen settings/messages/received at and make sure your phone number is selected rather than your email address. If I am connected to Wifi and send an iMessage to a party that is not connected to the Internet then he doesn't receive the message. How do I force my iPhone to send an SMS instead?
It is an interesting option but I am not sure how it works. I disconnected the other party Wifi and 3G on the iPhone, iPad and computer. I sent the iMessage 15 minutes ago and it doesn't give the small foot print "delivered" but equally said I didn't get the RED exclamation mark on the right hand side of the message in BLUE. So we know that the message was sent but not delivered. I don't seem to have the option of sending by SMS when I tap on the BLUE message and hold.

When I send an imessage on my ipad to someone, my husband also gets the message, even though he was not selected as a receipient. This just started when I got my ipad and sent a message for the first time. As a side note, my daughter received an itouch and both my husband and i were getting all messages she sent, no matter which one of us they were sent to. I turned her imessage off. We have all of our devices under the same itunes account so that we can share all music and apps. How can we get around this? I do not want him receiving all imessages that I send, this will get very annoying to him.
You can have a separate AppleID only for iMessage and keep using the other one for iTunes.
Just change the AppleID used for iMessage in Settings > Messages > Receive At -

When sending SMS through iMessage, why is it that the receiving party received the SMS as being sent from my email address instead of my mobile number
I have iPhone 4 iOS 5.1; I've been trying figure out how to make it so iMessage sends from my phone number and this is what finally worked for me:
First, I went to Settings>>Messages>>Receive At
Then, from there I logged out of the apple id by tapping on my email address and selecting "Sign Out." Now, in the place of where my email address was is the text "Use your Apple ID for iMessage." From here, I returned to "Messages," and next to "Receive At" my phone number was displayed.
After following these steps I am able to send messages from my phone number, instead of from the email address associated with my apple id.
The following things did not work for me:
I have tried signing out from my apple ID via Settings>>Store but this did not work. I have tried setting my Caller ID as my number, but this didn't do anything (i.e. iMessages were still being sent via my email address). I have tried changing the aforementioned items and restarting my iPhone in various ways. The only thing that worked is what I mentioned above. -
I reset network settings on my iPhone. However now it looks as if my iPhone and iPad are no longer linked. They are both connected to my apple account but when I send an imessage from one it is not picked up by the other. What do I do? If anyone can help it would be very much appreciated. Many thanks x
Check Settings > Messages > Send & Receive on both your iPhone and your iPad to make sure that the following are all true:
(1) you have selected the same Apple ID on both devices,
(2) you have the same entries checked under "You can be reached by iMessage at:" on both devices,
(3) you have the same entry checked under "Start new conversations from:" on both devices,
and
(4) that the entry checked in #3 is one of those checked in #2 on both devices.
When you say it has affected your iCloud account, what effect has it had? -
when i send a imessage it sends it from the number that was on the sim before i transfered my number how do i change it to my number?
ive tried to change it in message settings but the number is grey so im unable to de-select it ?
any ideas?

It sounds like you are unable to change the phone number that Messages is sending messages from because it is grayed out. I recommend the steps outlined in the following article named:

Unlink a phone number
To remove a phone number from an Apple ID, sign out of FaceTime and Messages on your iPhone:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
This should remove your phone number from other devices using the same Apple ID with FaceTime and Messages. If the phone number is still available on other devices after you sign out of FaceTime and iMessage on the iPhone, you may need to sign out of iMessage and FaceTime on all your devices, then sign in to FaceTime and Messages again on devices you want to use.
Note: If you no longer have access to the iPhone that is using the number you want to remove, reset your Apple ID password.
