When I set up my new computer, I was unable to restore my navigation bar, and someone else's replaced mine

I set up my new computer from an external hard drive that I shared with my daughter and is configured to her computer. Even though I downloaded the newest version of Firefox and have my email address in the preferences, I still am showing my daughter's navigation bar and bookmarks. I can't access my own

I do not use a Mac. But when you install a new version of Firefox it will try to use existing settings etc from what is known as the profile. The profile includes your bookmarks.
* see [[Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data]]
*[[Recovering important data from an old profile]]
If you share a computer with someone normally each user has their own profile, and there may be permissions preventing users accessing one-anothers accounts. Firefox will normally setup a profile in each account. You will need to search for and find your old profile.
*Any idea where your own old profile is ?
*Have you still got the old computer, and is it in working order
** or is your daughter's computer the only one you had?
** who set up Firefox initially was that yourself, your daughter or someone else ? <br /> (They may understand how it was set up)
Did you backup your bookmarks or your profile, or sync with any other device?

Hey Sierra, You can do just what you have stated. My question, what is your "other"? If it is over 1.5 GB you most likely have corrupt files. Doing a Restore to New, Factory restore should correct it. Just make sure you make a full backup of all information on your iPod to your computer before you restore, so you don't lose your stuff, contacts, videos, pictures, non-iTunes music, etc, use the cable and connect with your computer. Then, via cable, connect to your computer, run the Restore to new, don't use your backup. Treat this iPod as if it was your first one ever. When restore is done, set up and add what info you wish to install on this iPod. The music apps etc you purchased should be on your computer, if not you should be able to retrieve purchased apps and music from iTunes. Any music, videos, apps not purchased from iTunes will be lost to you if you do not save them to your computer or the cloud first. When your done, make a current Backup and you should good to go. Hope this helps. Good luck. Cheers.

  • I am setting up a new computer. Will not let me transfer fromcomputer to ipod. Says I have already authorized this computer but I am over the limit of 5. When I look at my account it says only 1 is authorized. I have no ability in the manage account.

I am trying to set up a new computer with my Ipod Nano. Will not let me transfer files. Syas I am over 5 authorizations. When I look at my account, it says only 1, the new computer I am trying to set up. While looking at my account, it won't let me change the computers authorized.

    Hello there, hannahsmom811.
The following Knowledge Base article reviews the steps for how to authorize and deauthorize computers with iTunes. It also offers up information on how to get help if these steps still don't resolve your issue:

  • I set up my new computer using the apple ID i always use, and then later migrated all my files from my old mac book to the same new one, but under a different user (same ID). how do i consolidate the two users on my new mac book?

i set up my new computer using the apple ID i always use, and then later migrated all my files from my old mac book to the same new one, but under a different user (same apple ID). how do i consolidate the two users on my new mac book?

Well if you use the Finder Go menu to Computer, a window opens up double click on your boot drive and then on Users folder, open the other user folder and open Public and drop your files into DropBox
When you do this it will copy them and change the permissions and user assigned to it, so log into the other user and place them into your respective normal folders.
Once you have all your files over and don't need the old user, use System Preferences > Accounts to delete it if you wish, however it's good two Admin accounts on the machine in case something bad happens in the other. Some people for security reasons on use a Standard account for most uses and a emergency Admin account.
One can still do most Admin things in Standard user.

  • (Junk-)Mail and setting up a new computer

    Hi all,
Naturally, I do not very often replace my computer, but every time I need to set up a new computer I run into this issue with Mail.app which annoys me.
I am a relatively heavy mail user (I have about 24.000 messages in my inbox on a gmail-account). I usually do not delete any mail, because I use my e-mail as my memory crutch for things past. However, if an e-mail is junk-mail, which I receive quite a bit, I delete it. To help me to sort the good from the bad, I use the Mail.app built-in junk mail control and generally, I am quite happy with it.
But every time I need to set up a computer from scratch, the following happens:
I set up Mail.app with my accounts.
Then I set the Junk Mail preferences to: "Enable junk mail filtering", "When junk mail arrives: Move it to the Junk mailbox". I have my Mailbox Behaviors set to: "Store junk messages on server".
Mail automatically moves tons of my legitimate old mail (this time more than 600 messages) to my gmail junk mail folder. That means I have to sift through the junk mail folder manually and pull out the legitimate mail while leaving the spam.
This is a big problem for me, because potentially I could lose important older e-mails. I have my accounts set up as IMAP, thus the new machine will screw up my older machines, the iPhone and even the native gmail web-interface.
My question: am I missing an "apply junk mail filter only to new incoming mail but leave my old mail alone"-button? Is there a work-around? Anyone else experiences this problem?
    All the best.

Hi, Gustavo, and welcome to the Community,
I know it will sound ridiculous, but if the new account was created using your e-mail address, change that account's password to take control of the account!  Remove any of your (or their) information - leave all profile settings as "blank" or "not specified."  I would recommend changing the passwords of your Skype account and your e-mail account as well, as proactive measures.
Then, please report this incident to Skype Customer Service.  Here is a link to the instruction on how to contact Skype Customer Service via their secure portal: Contact Customer Service
As you know you wish to contact Customer Service, skip past Step 2 of the instruction and proceed to Step 3, Continue Support Request.
    Best regards,
    Elaine

  • Adding old iPod to iTunes set up on new computer

I have a new laptop with Vista. I have installed iTunes and my new iPhone is set up on this computer. I would like to move my library to the new laptop. The desktop has Windows XP and my old iPod is set up on it. I have followed the instructions to use my iPod to copy/transfer the library to the new computer, but I get lost just at the point where I am supposed to pull up the iPod on the new computer. My concern is that the new computer has not yet been connected to the old iPod. So, I don't have a listing in the new computer for the iPod - and to use to copy the files over. How do I add the iPod to the iTunes on the new computer without making a mess? Thanks so much!

The iphone will sync with one computer at a time.  When you sync with the new computer you itunes content and pics will be erased from iphone and replaced with content from the new computer.
Also, if the computer has no contacts or calendar entries, then those will be erased from the iphone when you sync as well.
Copy everything ( itunes library/pice/contact/calendars/etc) from your backup copy to your computer first.
Before you sync make sure to transfer the new itunes purchases from your iphone.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases

  • When downloading iTunes onto a new computer, is there any way to automatically import old music files? Last time I got a new computer I didn't have to use an external drive to update my music library.

When downloading iTunes onto a new computer, is there any way to automatically important songs from your previous computer? I recently cracked the screen on my computer and cannot access any files. Last time I got a new computer my iTunes media files automatically appeared in my iTunes when I downloaded it, and I did not have to use my external drive. Is this still possible?

If your backup copy of the old computer was not stolen, then use it to put everything back.

You can run the 10.8.5 combo and 10.8.5 supplemental installers, instead of going through the frequently wonky App Store:

  • How to get the organized files back when you move to a new computer

How to get your file folder organization back when you move to a new computer?

Your PSE8 is using the default, new empty catalog that's created when PSE is installed.
In Windows, search your entire computer for this file:
    catalog.pse8db
The largest one that's found will be your old catalog.  If your computer people didn't restore that catalog file (and its entire directory), ask them where the heck it is.

how do i verify my account when i accesed from a new computer or device?

Is this going to delete all my previous music?
Yes. By design an iPhone will sync iTunes content with ONE computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL iTunes content being first erased from your phone, to be replaced with the content from the second computer. Apple provides no way to transfer non-purchased iTunes content from your phone to any computer. For that, you'll have to use third-party software:
