When i stream from mac mini to apple tv the video jerks

I have a Mac Mini and a 2ed gen Apple TV , when I stream from the mac to the Apple TV the video jerks and some time frezes, I have checked the WiFi and the Internet all are strong, streaming from my Iphone and Ipad are great. what am i doing wrong

...or it could be caused by Apple crap. I'm having the same problem. On a WIRED connection from my MacMini to an Apple TV. The network runs fine with my Windows laptop and iPad. Video streams nicely from my iPad on WiFi, but lots of jerkiness when I watch a movie from my MacMini via Apple TV, regardless of whether I'm on WiFi or wired.
Doesn't take much to work out that the problem is with the MacMini and/or Yosemite. I'm also having problems with my Internet connection slowing or cutting out intermittently, so I wonder if they're connected.

  • Error while streaming from ipad mini to apple tv

While using my ipad mini to stream through airplay mirroring on apple tv (3rd generation) when I switch to full screen view the stream stops and I get an error message saying an "an error occurred loading this content" How do I correc this? Happens everytime.

reset apple tv, and rebooted router n macbook n mini......still no results........did i mention it worked two days ago and now i dont see the icon anymore.  i also got live tech support and they walked me thru rebooting and turning things off and on again.  still no icon......  so tech cant help me and said that my router may not be letting my devices "communicate" with eachother.  if i dont get air play to work.....i will return the apple tv(if the apple store will take it back.)  cant use it....dont want it.    it worked couple days ago......  : (

  • Streaming from iPad mini to Apple TV?

If I read a streaming video from iPad 2 and transfers it to iPad TV it worlks well!
If i do the same with an iPad mini two problems:
        - the flow is not speed enough to read properly the video, so I have to push pause and wait...
        - after few seconds or minutes it depends, I loose the video and have only the sound on the tv!
Is there a difference between iPad 2 and iPad mini which could explain this?
Is this iPad mini just out of order?
    Thank you for your feedback

Hmm, my iPad 2 doesn't stop streaming when I'm sending video to my Chromecast.
If you have the iPad plugged in & charging, does it still stop streaming?

  • Apple TV has no sound when mirroring from Mac mini, sound works when mirroring from iPad and iPhone

When I mirror from Mac mini to Apple TV there's no audio from Apple TV to my av amp,it works fine from iPhone and iPad,is there something I need to do in the airplay settings?

Here's what finally solved my issue:

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore)
Apparently there is an issue if you push the Apple Remote before you set your computer to mirror.  Whatever I did, it had locked it in that state.  Once I stopped mirroring, then went onto the TV screen and restarted the Apple TV (#1 above) it then allowed me to choose mirroring on my Mac and the audio automatically switched from the computer to the TV (making the computer now mute), BTW the volume needs to be maxed on the computer as that will transmit to the TV if your volume is low on the computer.  Then you can raise or lower it the way you want on your TV.
    Yay!
    Hope this helps others.....

  • Left and right audio is cancelling out when I stream from macbook to apple TV2

When I stream from iTunes on my Macbook to my Apple TV the left and right audio sounds like it is cancelling each other out, meaning the lead vocal on songs is very low in the mix.  Anyone know why this is happening?

Well there is something definitely wrong. If track is panned to left channel and the output virtual LEDs show left channel only then it has to be a problem somewhere else. Are you using a digital interface or the 1/8" audio out to mixer, headphone.

Was just on the phone with Apple about this.
The solution was as follows for me anyway...
    Go to your Finder
    Choose the Go Menu
    Choose Computer
    Choose your Macintosh Hard Drive
    Choose your "Library" Folder
    Choose the "Preferences" Folder
There should be a folder called "Audio"
Move that whole folder to the trash
    Empty the Trash
    Restart from the Apple Menu
    When you are back up and running;
Choose System Preferences from the Apple Menu
         Choose Sound
In the output tab you should now be able to make the HDMI "Sticky"
Enjoy your sound over HDMI and no more dirty knees or broken backs unplugging the desktop speakers!

  • Mac Mini, Synology, Apple TV, iTunes - where to start

    Hi Everyone,
I am new to the apple forum. To be honest I am new to the whole Apple thing, being a Windows bod I managed to resist the Apple gravy train for several years before giving in and falling inline.
Now I find myself with an iphone, ipod touch, ipad 2, mac mini and apple TV 4 although not all in use yet... This brings me to my question.
What is the best home setup for sharing?
    let me set the scene.
3 years ago I modernised my house and put in cat5e structured cabling throughout, all back to a comm rack in the loft. at the time I set up a powerful quad core server. I used to run my own AD domain, Exchange server (don't ask). Now the server runs Windows 7 professional with 8 HDDs running raid 5 mainly running windows media centre and I was using my xbox 360s as extenders. The view was to use Xbox's around the house to access my media. Never quite got there and things have moved on again.
After running the big Windows beast 24x7 for about 18 months I wanted to scale down again, improve data resillience and provide a simple user interface for my other half.
So after doing some initial web trawling armed and dangerous with a very small amount of knowledge and realising that I already had an amount of Apple kit to contribute towards an iTunes based mulitroom solution. The red mist came down and with credit card in hand I did some retail therapy. Not the female handbag and shoes type but the proper male tech kind.
    I already had
    1 x ipod touch 64GB
    1 x iphone 4 32GB
    1 x ipad 2 64GB wifi
    And to complement the set I now have;
    1 x i5 2.7GHZ, 16GB RAM, 2TB HDD Mac mini (this is the latest version which I upgraded to 2 x 1TB internal drives)
    1 x 4th gen apple TV
    and non Apple kit
    1 x Synology DS212+  with 8TB storage raid 0
    1 x Onkyo TX-NR515 AV receiver
So now comes to the ask. How best to use all of this over my home wired network?
I'm thinking I will use iTunes, I want to have some form of data backup between the Synology and the Mac mini (I want to shut down my windows server)
I also want to be able to control it all from the ipad/ipod and push media (audio and video) around the house.
The mac mini is currently plugged into one of my TVs via the AV receiever and the thought was to use the apple TV in another room, and depending of how it goes buy another 1 or 2 for other rooms.
So I have all this kit and not sure where to start and I'm not a mac expert. I know I can't use the synology box on it's own as you need itunes for the apple TVs, I don't know whether to use the Synology or the local Mac storage for the primary itunes library and then to backup to the device is so how (time capsule thing).
I don't want itunes to organise my media as I don't like the way it shuffles files around, so thinking of keeping the media files in a folder structure I am familar with and pointing iTunes at that. I also have a large amount of video files that I will probably have to convert to be capatible with iTunes, but not sure of the best way to do this, if I need to at all.
Sorry for the long waffle. Would be interested in any views, suggestions, ideas or examples of your own set ups. In return, for what it is worth I will let you know how I get on.
    many thanks for your input

Great thread all!  I have been wrestling with this very topic for several months now.  I've read every thread I could find on the topic, asked questions etc but still have not come to a final decision.  But I am getting close ... I think.
First, a little background.  I am starting from primarily pc household and converting to an all Apple infrastructure.  From the Apple world, we already have 2 iPhones and 3 iPads.  New iPhone 5 on order and ... today at last Apple has announced the new iMacs.  Exactly what I have been waiting for and so my intent is to purchase one each of the smaller and larger as they come out next month and the month after.  My router is beginning to show signs of age and so I would also like to move to an Airport Extreme.  The PC hard drive housing my iTunes library is nearly full and so I need to move the library to a new location, preferable an external, networkable location and I've been looking at the Synology 1812 for this purpose.  So, in the end I have or would like to soon have:
    3 iPads
    3 iPhones
    2 iMacs
1 AppleTV 3 with a plan to one or two more.  If they would only add the Amazon Prime app and RF remote capabilities it would be nearly perfect.
2 PS3s and 1 XBox360 but I much prefer the ATV interface for media.  PS3 remains the place for the Amazon app because ATV doesn't provide.
    1 Airport Extreme
House is already wired and homerunned with Cat-6
Plan to add Synology 1812 with 3 or 4 3TB drives to start and use the Synology Hybrid Raid
Open items or questions for me:
    1.  Will I have any issues if I purchase the Synology, move the iTunes library from my current PC to it and then remove the PC from the picture once I have an iMac in place?  I understand that Apple does not utilize the same hard drive formatting structure as pc but I am not sure this would matter for an external device accessed over a network.
    2.  What am I going to serve with?  I like iTunes and I am used to it.  I would like something that works well with the ATV and it does that.  Plex seems to have potential but would then make ATV useless unless hckd.  All of my music is in iTunes now, including ripped, iTunes purchased and Amazon purchased.  I have put many tv shows and some films into it as well, utilizing Handbrake to do so when needed.
    3.  Synology for storage, backup, redundancy etc but from where do I want to manage media / serve from?  I realize I can do it from one or even both of the iMacs.  I had been thinking that I wanted a low power, always on solution that would negate the need to have an IMac always on, something similar to the HP MediaSmart Server I've been using at home for a number of years, albeit clunkily.  This is where I thought the Mac Mini might come in (once I learned that the Synology iTunes server was really not a true iTunes server).  Low power, always on, can be running iTunes on it etc.  But this thread and aschmid's comments have me rethinking this.  Maybe I won't be shutting down my iMac all that much and maybe it isn't difficult to wake it so that it can address serving duties.
    4.  How would I address the storage of home videos vs films and tv shows?  I don't want iTunes managing home videos ... do I?  Still want them sitting on the Synology - right?  Did you all create a separate folder on the Synology for home videos?  I know there is a default videos folder. there.  And are you serving via iPhoto, Aperture or something else?
    5.  How about photos?  I would like my photo library housed on the Synology as well.  Is that served via iPhoto or Aperture to the ATV?  How are the mutiple entry points addressed?  Everyone in the family is taking pictures, videos etc and all of iCloud turned on.  How do I insure that a clean copy of every picture and video taken with any iPhone, iPad, digital camera, digital camcorder etc all ends up centrally located and accessible on the Synology without it becoming too manual a process?
Sorry about the long windedness of this.  I got on a bit of a roll once I began typing.  This has been on my mind for some time and I am happy to have come across this thread.

  • Widescreen w. DVI from Mac-Mini ?

I bought a new monitor (Philips 200W6CS) with 1680*1050 pixels , to replace a Belinea with 1200*1000 pix.
When connected to the mac mini it gave a very clear picture but only for only 5 minutes, ending in sleep-mode, or "no signal".
The same DVI-cable then still gives signal to other DVI-monitor,
The new 200W6CS does only work stable on VGA with same but less sharp 1680*1050 pix, .... and still with DVI from PC's.
    The OS here is 10.3.7..
The video from mac-mini should support 1900*1200 pix...
What is wrong ??, and how to fix ??
mac mini, windows PC   Mac OS X (10.3.7)   Philips 200W6CS

I suspect if you dug into the details of the video timing for 1680 x 1050 you would find the dot clock is above 135 MHz. The mini is not stable above that level with certain DVI receivers. Probably you will have to use a program like DisplayConfigX or SwitchRes X to lower the pixel clock below 135. Here is a thread that may help.

  • A2dp streaming to mac mini possible?

i have 10.5.7 installed, and have my mac mini hooked up in the living room to my stereo music system which includes some pretty kickass speakers. With the new iphone 3.0 software now supporting a2dp streaming, as well as having a macbook with some of my music, is it possible to setup a2dp streaming from iphone to mac mini so that my music plays through mac mini to my stereo system? i can see so many uses for them, guests with their iphones with music, plus my gf has her macbook with her own music, and i know i can do some form of library sharing, but it would be much much simpler for her to simply be able to connect via bluetooth and stream music over bluetooth rather than use her macbook while at the same time using kb and mouse fo mac mini to stream her music, too complicated for her to bother with it.
also no, i cant and do not want to buy an airport extreme, mainly because i alreayd hvae too many wires in the living room and am trying my best to cut down on them, secondly because i dont want to spend 150-200$ on it, and thirdly my mac mini connects with my stereo via a usb dac, and theres no input to be able to plug in a separate music bluetooth receiver.
this doesnt jsut have to apply to streaming from iphone or macbook, its a general leopard/software question on how to go about accomplishing something like this.

Hello mikeswitzer. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
As you have already figured out poor signal strength equals poor bandwidth performance. This, of course, will be noticeable for both audio and video streaming.
I suggest downloading a copy of iStumbler. Use iStumbler's Inspector feature (select Edit > Inspector from iStumbler's menu) to determine the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) at different points around your house, by performing a simple RF site survey. Within the Inspector, note the values for "signal" & "noise" at these locations. Start with your MacBook near the Time Capsule (TC), note the readings, and then, go to the location where you currently have the Mac Mini.
SNR is the signal level (in dBm) minus the noise level (in dBm). For example, a signal level of -53dBm measured near an access point and typical noise level of -90dBm yields a SNR of 37dB, a healthy value for wireless LANs.
The SNR, as measured from the MacBook, decreases as the range to the base station increases because of applicable free space loss. Also an increase in RF interference from microwave ovens and cordless phones, which increases the noise level, also decreases SNR.
    SNR Guideline
    o 40dB+ SNR = Excellent signal
    o 25dB to 40dB SNR = Very good signal
    o 15dB to 25dB SNR = Low signal
    o 10dB to 15dB SNR = Very low signal
    o 5dB to 10dB SNR = No signal
If the SNR is 20dB+ at the Mac Mini, then you should be getting reasonable performance from your TC. If less, either try to locate the source of the Wi-Fi interference or try relocating either the TC or the Mac Mini until they are within a 20dB SNR range.
Another option is to utilize a transceiver on the Mac Mini to try to increase the Mini's built-in AirPort antenna ability to pick up the signal from the TC. One vendor that provides these is QuickerTek.

  • Initiating airplay from Mac Mini to AppleTV causes router to crash

    Hi,
I have an AppleTV (new) and a Mac Mini (new), both purchased in the last few months.  When I try to initate Airplay from my Mac Mini it crashes the network.  Every device on the network loses internet.  This can only be resolved by rebooting the router.  I have tried this several times, but still no luck.  Any help would be appreciated.

I can play audio on both the Mac Mini and Apple TV simultaneously by using ITunes and the Airplay icon from within ITunes.  In ITunes, I select the Airplay icon and choose "mulitiple" and select both "computer" and "Apple TV" and have volume controls for both and each indiviudally.  It works, so the devices are connected and Ethernet is not the issue.  Is there a way outside of ITunes to play audio over both Mac Mini speakers and Apple TV speakers?

  • Poor Incoming Network Performance from Mac Mini

I have a 1.5 Core Solo Intel mac mini running Leopard 10.5.4. I currently have it connected directly via patch cable to a eMachines wintel running Windows Server 2k3 that I'm using for a server. The weirdness comes in whenever I'm trying to transfer files back and forth across the Ethernet connection. Both Ethernet cards are manually set to 100mbit full-duplex.
I have enabled SMB sharing on both machines, and I have the FTP server setup on my mac mini. Below are the speeds on which I'm getting file transfers:
    SMB:
    Mini -> 2k3: 8MB/sec
    2k3 -> Mini: 3MB/sec
    FTP:
    Mini -> 2k3: 11MB/sec
    2k3 -> Mini: 3MB/sec
I've tried disabling IPv6 on the Ethernet port in the mac mini. The firewall is turned off. And surely the stock hard drive in the mac mini can write faster than 3MB/sec. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this insane slowdown on incoming file transfers? I've looked through the forums for any possible fixes and have come up blank.
    Thanks in advance,
    Josh Hogan

@ SilverSkyRat: Permission were all correct, but no connection login as a network user. Thank you for your input
@ BDAqua: You are right. Thank you also
I received the this link from Apple regarding my connectivity issue: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4945?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
However, I found a simple solution to over come my problem: here is how I did it:
1- I created a Network user jsmith using Server App with password as "password"
2- Then went to System Preferences\Users & Groups\ and create a standard user account as jsmith with the same password as "password"
Then I was able to map my network drive that resides on the Mac mini server to a Windows XP machine. Both password of jsmith has to be the same in order for the mapping to take place.
This solution resolved my connectivity issue. However, there is one thing I do not like about it:
1- I have to make sure that when a user changes his/her network password, I have to change his/her password at the server...it is double the work
2- Everytime I create a Network User Account, I have to create the same account on the local server with the same password.
Thnak you All for your input

If you mean the 10.4 DVD is a full-retail copy for any machine, not the version that came with the Mac mini.

  • Slow Streaming From Time Capsule to Apple TV

    Hi,
I have several movies and tv programmes stored on my Time Capsule..... When I stream from the time capsule to Apple TV it is very slow and is constantly buffering. How can I get around this as at present the films / programmes are un-watchable.
    Thanks
    mbchunky

Thanks for describing your current network configuration for streaming.
In your current setup, QuickTime will first have to access the media files from the TC over a wireless connection. From there it will send the stream back to the TC. The TC will then send the stream to the Apple TV. As you can see there are a number of potential Wi-Fi interference issues along this overall path. Interference is not just from other Wi-Fi operating nearby, but also includes microwave ovens, portable phones, baby monitors, etc. Very importantly, it also includes the type of building material used along the path the wireless signal must travel through.
I would suggest that you do a bit of testing to determine what exactly the data throughput you are getting. Once you understand those values, we should be able to determine where the bottlenecks are and try to eliminate them if possible.
Please take a look at the following AirPort User Tip for details on taking throughput measurements.
