This is how it was advertised but it is not exactly true unless all your music was bought in iTunes.  You can always redownload a song that was previously bought for free.
Eventually for a fee they will offer iTunes match and you will be able to do that for other music too that you have ripped off of CDs, for exmple.
If you have more than one Apple ID, though, like so many of us that came from Mobile me, this service will not really work because you can only flip between one ID and another on an IOS device once every 90 days.  We are not allowed to merge our IDs, so iCloud does not really work for us.

    The dragging does not work:
    - Transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - For other music you will need a third-party program like one of those discused here:
    Copy music
    - Connect the iPod to your compouter and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up.
    - Restore the iPod from that backup
Nothe that the backup that iTunees makes does not include synced media like apps nd music.

If you had no other backup....NOPE!  However, if you purchased your songs from iTunes, check out:  iTunes Store - Finding Lost Music FAQ

Your movies and songs are not stored in icloud.  Have you connected to itunes to get the files back?

  • I deleted all the music on my phone but now I can't add any of that music back. It says the songs are already on there, and they're visible in iTunes but I can't delete them or play them.

The music is not on my phone and I've checked I selected 'show all music' and it's not there. But when I plug my phone into my laptop all the music that use to be there still appears in the music folder but I can't delete it. So now when I try to add some of that music back onto my phone, a thing pops up saying iTunes cannot add any songs to the iPhone  because it already contains all the songs in the playlist “iphone”.

I just realized I have a different iCloud account set up on my phone. The one on my Macbook is the one associated with my ITunes account. Could this be the problem?

  • How do i sync the iTunes from my iPhone 6 to my new MacBook without removing all the music from my phone?

I have just purchased a new MacBook and am having trouble syncing the existing iTunes on my iPhone 6 to it. The only option it gives me is to wipe the music on my phone and replace it with the existing playlists on my iTunes (on the MacBook). For some reason all the purchases I have made on my iPhone are not always transferred on to this computer.. help please!

I want to put music on my phone, but ITunes is saying I have music already on it. How do I get rid of the blue music bar so I can put music I want on it without going over the GB limit?

This is covered in the User's Guide along with all other basic functionality.
Press and hold the home and power buttons for 15-20 seconds until the white Apple logo appears.

  • TS4062 My iTunes just stopped syncing properly with my iPhone 2 days ago. Apps are no problem as are other syncs but my music does not sync and the music on my phone is not playing at all. HELP!!

    help

I just recently had this problem and I don't know if it will work for you but what I did was plug my iPhone up to my computer, start iTunes, go into my iPhone on iTunes, go into my music, select all my songs, right click, and select New Playlist From Selection. This created a Playlist 1 and it automatically retrieved the songs from my iTunes to create the playlist songs. I then deleted the playlist and now all my songs play fine. (If any still don't play after the first playlist, create a second one made up of the songs that didn't sync.) Hope this helped.

  • Why does opening the music library after a synch always take an eternity

....after Apple release a software update? It's very annoying. They usually fix it within a week or two but why can't get they get it right before issuing the update?

When you change a tag, iTunes needs to rewrite the file back to the disc.
If the file is a 4MB MP3 it only takes a second, but with a large movie file it can take a while.

  • When I plug in my iPhone to my mac it doesn't sync the music and when I try to sync the music is says that it is with another library and will delete all the songs on my phone to put the ones from my computer on it.

Whenever I try to sync my phone with my computer it won't automatically sync my new music from my computer to my phone. When i select it to sync it says that it is going to delete all the music off my phone because its already with another device (or something along those lines) but I use my itunes from my computer to my phone. Does anyone know how I can fix this so it will sync. Will all the songs on my phone be on my computer so it won't matter if it deletes them off of my phone?

If you right click on a son in iTunes and click Get Info. Under the Sorting tab iyo can change how the songs is sorted in iTunes
Tips for using song and CD info to organize your music
You can edit information in the Info window to make it easier to find and sort items in your library. For example, you can:
Group individual movements on a classical CD into one work by indicating the name of the work (for example, “Piano concerto in A Minor, Op. 54”) in the Grouping field.
Group songs that are part of a compilation together in your library by clicking Details and selecting the checkbox next to “Album is a compilation of songs by various artists”.
Identify the individual artists on a tribute album in the Artist field, and type “various” in the Album Artist field.
Create your own genre category by clicking Details and typing the category in the Genre field.
Change the order in which tracks on a CD play by changing the numbers in the Track fields.
Create a Smart Playlist that includes only songs that are just the right speed for your workout by typing the number of beats per minute in the BPM field. For instructions, see Create a Smart Playlist.
Identify a movie as a music video (click the Options button, and choose Music Video from the Media Kind pop-up menu).
Identify an item that you imported from a CD as an audiobook, so it appears under Audiobooks instead of Music (click the Options button and choose Audiobook from the Media Kind pop-up menu). If you do this, iTunes also remembers your place in the audiobook.
Enter custom sorting criteria for an item. Select the item, choose File > Get Info, click Sorting, and enter the custom text.
Does the non-syncing songs play in iTunes on the computer?
is there anything different about the songs that do sync and those that do not? Like where they cam from? The format (Get Info>under the File tab).

  • My iPhone 5s won't sync all the music in my iTunes

Hi so today I was trying to get rid of the "other" on my iPhone 5s and was going through my storage and one thing led to another and I accidentally deleted all the music on my phone. I thought I could just sync it right back up. Before I hit apply changes on the summary of my phone in iTunes, the bar at the bottom shows how much storage my music will take up when I sync it. However, as soon as I hit apply changes, the bar goes back down to just the songs from my iCloud. I tried re-checking the sync music box under the music tab and re-syncing and it loaded about 216 songs onto my phone while in my music library there's well over 700 songs. The songs are all checked on iTunes so they should sync, but for some reason they aren't. I have no idea what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

mine is doing the same thing other than Itunes saying it can't read the format. I can't play 90% of my music. I took it to an apple store the other day an they told me only purchased music will work. Not even a music upload from a CD. Which to me is a load of ....because my wife has all the songs on her iphone that are greyed out on mine and they work on hers
