There seem to be a few apps that are not compatible with my phone and I am wondering if that is because it is not up to date or beacuse it is a 3gs?

I recommend no less than 2GB's of RAM. There is no download for SL, you must purchase from Apple, $29 at any Apple store. Leopard is no longer sold by Apple. About the only place you can find a retail disk is eBay, however the prices are getting ridiculous.

Make sure your Mac qualifies for Mountain Lion > Apple - Upgrade your Mac to OS X Mountain Lion.

Yea... agreed I had about 160 GB free on my Hard drive and tried to synce my iPhone 5S (currently about 32GB in use of 64) and iit says I don't have enough free space. Uh...yes....yes I do. So I cleaned up backups in iTunes from my previous phone and moved some large files to my 1TB time capsule...now I have over 200GB Free...and yet...when I try to synce my phone and it moves to the "backup" part...it thinks for a moment...and then says...nope I don't have enough space on my hard drive. Must be new Apple Math? I ran diagnostics on my system...ran a full permissions check and cleaned up everything. Personally..this particular iMac is older. The following is applicable:
If you have iOS 4.2.1 or later on the iPod and there was version compatible with that version, then you should be able to get a compatible version by:
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.

Where did you get the ringtone from? Can you see it in itunes on your computer in the library under tones?

Is "Sync Apps" in the apps tab checked? If it is and they still won't sync, uncheck it then run a sync, then recheck it and run the sync again. If that doesn't help, on the phone itself, go to your app store, tap on updates, then go to purchased, and tap the cloud button next to them to redownload.

Yes, so what's confusing... Did you not restore the backup of your data, contacts, pics, apps, music, etc. to the new hard drive after you replaced it or reformatted it or whatever you did? If so, then you can just sync your data back.
If not, please try searching the forum. This has been addressed hundreds of times here.

iTunes places the .ipsw file here:

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
Find and delete any and all .ipsw files on your computer. There should only be one, but delete all that you find. Next, disable ALL firewalls & security software on your computer. Connect your phone, iTunes running & restore from backup. Follow this by syncing your content back to your phone.
This will force iTunes to re-download the .ipsw file, as I suspect yours is corrupt.

The only limit is that of the device. No restrictions on how much of it you can use for music. Is part of your music library unchecked?

I have an iphone 4s and about a week ago i loaded a bunch of my music cd's onto it! Yesterday i tried to add about 10 more cd's! And now i go to the music icon on my phone and it shows all the albums but when i click on the album a sceen shows up that say

I got this phone a week ago and was able to put about 15 albums on it! Yesterday i went to add 10 more to my iphone 4s and all the albums show on the menu but when i click on the album tthe next sceen tells me i can buy this album at the apple store! All the albums are in my library i just cant get them back on my phone! And all the albums that were on my phone are also doing the same thing with the screen that says i can buy these from the apple store!

So after looking a bit closer i have noticed that when i have the phone plugged into the computer it shows the songs but when i dont have it plugged in and i go so the song icon on the bottom of the music menu screen it says i have no songs!
