When I tried to burn a CD

After I tried to burn a CD it quit and said:
The burn to the OPTIARC DVD RW AD5690H drived.  Failed  The burn failed because of a medium write error.

It could not write data to the disc. There is no way to know if this is a burner failure or bad media. If it persists despite using different CD-ROM discs from different manufacturers, it's probably the drive.

  • I am trying to burn a CD from a playlist in iTunes. I set everything up, and then when it tries to burn, it cancels the burn right away, and gives me the error code: 4251. What am I doing wrong?

Okay, so I wanted to burn a CD to play on players in the house. The songs on my playlist are from CDs that I own and imported into my iTunes. Here are the steps I've taken:
    1. I created a playlist
    2. Selected File > Burn Playlist to Disc...
    3. My Burn Settings are as follows: Maximum Possible Speed (I have tried all the other speeds as well with the same result), Audio CD (No gaps between songs), Use Sound Check is selected, Include CD Text is selected (I have also tried unselecting these two options).
    4. Then I clicked Burn
    5. Within a couple of seconds "Cancelling Burn" shows up in the window at the top of the screen, and a box pops up that says: The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (4251).
I have tried different CDs, I have changed all the settings in the Burn Settings box, and I get the same result over and over again. I researched the error 4251, and it refers to a problem with importing songs from a CD. This is totally irrelevant since I'm not trying to import, I'm trying to burn. This is a blank CD, and it is a CD-R. These CDs are off a tower I purchased less than a month ago, and have had absolutely no problem burning other things to these CDs. I really don't want to have to re-import these songs to Windows Media Player or another application just so I can burn what I want onto a CD, but this is almost the point I am at.
iTunes certainly isn't helping me much at this point, and I would appreciate any feedback into what I am possibly doing wrong in trying to create a CD.

I have Windows 7 on a Dell.  Open and play iTunes in the compatability mode and use Windows XP (service pack 2).  Disregard any messsages to disable the compability mode.  This has worked for me.  I have also reinstalled iTunes and played with burn speeds etc.  These ideas did not work.  Compatability mode works.

  • Backup on CD/DVD wont work. crashes when it tries to burn 1. DVD

i tried it several times, but it wont work. if i start itunes tells me that it needs 4 DVDs to backup the whole library. so i put in the first one. the process collects informations and then writes the first DVD. then the burning process starts but windows shows up a messege that iTunes occured an error and had to be shut down. no more explantations.
now i reinstalled my windows xp and itunes so that i have a new clean system. i copied the library from a external HD. i tried it again but still, the error comes.
i have about 3.600 songs in my library, no other stuff. i used a 16 x DVD+R disc for burning. i also burned other stuff with other tools on this type of DVD so it seems not to be a hardware problem.
please, that exporting to DVD thin is the only way to properly transport my library to my new iMac. copiyng it with an external HD wont work so this is the only thing i can do.

nobody? meanwhile i retried the process but this time i choose CDs instead of DVDs. it took me a bunch of CDs but at least it worked. BUT after reimport in the Mac iTunes all the coverpics from my own imported cd's where gone. why is that so!? downloaded songs' covers are still there.

  • Why does my itunes crash when trying to burn a CD

Okay, some background info. For almost two years, anytime I'd put a CD into the computer, it would be these loud noises that sounded as if they were damaging the disc and/or it wouldn't eject the disc. After spending literally a day trying to eject this one CD, which I finally did after a day of continuously pressing "eject," the CD ejected and I decided to take my computer to the Apple store to get it fixed.
To make a long story short(er), I paid to have the optical drive replaced, and when I took my computer home, the new problem became that instead of reading the CDs (or DVDs), it would just automatically eject the discs. I took my computer back and they replaced the optical drive again with a new one. After I took the computer home, it quietly read two CDs and then starting with the third one, it started automatically ejecting the CDs again as before. I got so frustrated that I put my finger over the slot to prevent the disc from coming out. After attempting to eject the disc for a couple of minutes, the computer stopped trying to eject the CD and read it. And it ejected the disc with no problem. Since then, the computer has had no trouble reading and ejecting the numerous (15+) CDs. It does, however, now make a lot of noise when reading the CD.
Today I tried burning a playlist for the first time. When the blank disc was put in, it was loud but accepted it with no problem. But when I tried to burn the playlist from itunes, itunes would automatically crash. I've tried other blank discs and it does the same thing. It even crashes when I press burn disc even without a disc. Just to make sure the blank CD could burn something, I double-clicked the CD icon and burned some mp3s manually and that worked. So the optical drive is able to burn information on blank CDs. However, when I try through itunes, itunes crashes.
So do you guys think this is an itunes issue, or is it related to the replaced optical drive? I'm leaning towards the latter.

Somebody PLEASE help me.... I keep getting the "itunes has stopped working" error when I import cd's and that it's checking windows for help. That's it! It doesn't tell me how to fix it. Apple stores or the phone support has been ZERO help. I just need to reinstall all these cds that were lost when I plugged in my new ipod to my new computer!!!

  • Error message 4850 when trying to burn a playlist to disc

I have recently upgraded my laptop to a dell E6500, and have downloaded the latest version of itunes. Since I have had this new laptop, and new version of itunes, I have been unable to burn discs from playlists. It starts to write a track, and then i get an error message "4850". Can anyone help me with this? Ive seem some other people saying they have had this problem, but im not v conputer savvy, and dont always understand their technical response
    Thanks

I too have been having troubles burning DVDs from iTunes, in my case under Vista. I think this could be a re-run of an earlier iTunes problem when Apple took a sudden dislike to grammatical expressions such as '. Anyway, by trying to burn with other software I've found the error happens when iTunes tries to burn a track with either a very long name, or a track that contains an odd symbol. Just now a track name from Verdi's Aida was not only very long but also contained this symbol / and I got repeated Error 4850. Once I edited the track name to remove this (and shortened the track name for good measure) the problem has gone away.

  • Error Message 4621 when trying to burn a playlist

I am running Windows XP and Itunes 10.4. I haven't burned a playlist to a CD for about 5 years and the last time I did, there was no problem. I imported one of my purchased CDs into Itunes and all songs play fine. The CD has since been damaged and I was trying to burn the songs onto a CD. I'm using Maxell CD-R discs. After about 30 seconds, I get an error message 4621 saying that my attempt to burn failed. I am using a Dell XPS 400 and my E drive is HL-DT-STDVD+-RWGWA4164B. I haven't updated drivers in a while, but the drives work fine and play the CDs. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem?
    Thanks
    Kelly

  • Error code (4880) when trying to burn a playlist to disc

I have never had a problem burning play lists to disc, before installing iTunes 8. I fact up until a few weeks ago burning was a breeze and was really fast. but now every time i try to burn a disc it starts burning the first two tracks and then says disc burning is canceling then ejects the disc and displays the error message: 'unable to burn disc. An unknown error occurred (4880)'
Has anyone any Ideas on how to solve this problem? It is starting to become very irritating.

  • I get "medium write error" when trying to burn cds

I tried to burn a playlist from iTunes and it burned one copy, then when I tried to burn a second copy my computer made alot of noise during the "initializing/finishing" stage, spit the cd out and said "medium write error" - i've tried another cd, and tried burning another playlist with the same results. Any idea what's wrong or if there is anything I can do about it???
    Thanks

First, try quitting all other applications except iTunes.
Second, try burning at a slower rate.
Then try a different brand/batch of CDs.
I believe the default burn setting is 'as fast as possible'.
Today I got perfect results at 20x or slower on my mid-2007 Core2Duo MacBook SuperDrive, and about 1 out of 3 at 24x and faster with a major brand name media labeled 'up to 52x'.
Yeah, it takes a little more time to burn each disc, but if you only have a 50% success rate with a faster speed, you're not really saving any time.
The reason I suggest quitting all other applications is that heavy CPU use seems to diminish my burn success rate on all of my computers, including the Windows boxes. Your mileage may vary.

  • Enocore CS5 error when trying to burn to blue ray disc

My project consists of 4 AVCHD clips imported separately into Encore as timelines and then I deleted the timelines to keep just these assets.  I built a new timeline and added these three clips to this timeline.  Three of the AVCHD clips are on the timeline with a total time of about 3:30.  The fourth is a 30 second clip used for the motion menu  background.  The file size is 22.95 GB.  There are 39 chapters in the project, the top page (page 0) has three buttons linking to chapters 1, 21, and 30 (the start of each of the clips).  The other pages of the menu have 6 video buttons per page linked to chapters.  All of the clips when highlighted will lead to the project setting "Do Not Transcode" (which is what I want) and I am buring this to a 25GB blu ray disc.  When I checked the project everything seemed okay- no error messages.  I then went to build the disc and after about 20 minutes I got the following error message:
    "Blu-Ray Object: "<Menu>NTSC_FISH top menu",Error:"device error",Code: "2",
Note: "Too many primary video streams in clip (Spec Table 9-3,Annex B)"
The menu name is NTSC_FISH topmenu.  Any ideas what the problem is and how I can fix this?

I went to the original motion menu source and saved it as Microsoft AVI (file name:    Premiere pro avi for menu.avi) instead of AVCHD hoping that might help and then brought that file into Encore and linked that as the motion video for the top menu (the other menus don't have a motion background). I tried to animate the buttons for all the menu pages.  When I click on the Premiere Pro avi for menu.avi asset the options show for DVD Transcode automatic and for Blu Ray Automatic (for transcoding).  The file shows as 720X576 and it is 34 seconds long.  The top menu is checked to animate buttons and I can uncheck it if I want, the submenus-start at page 1- have the animate buttons grayed out but checked and I can't uncheck these even if I wanted to. When I tried to burn this to disc, it got further along- burning 13.15 gb to disc and then I got the following error message:
Blu-ray error:File already exists",Code:"6", Note:Video buffer underflows. Total bitrate is too high near time = 1321.253267 seconds-
I am running Windows 7 64 bit, 2.4 ghz processor Quad core, 6 gb of memory and 69.1 gb free on my external hard drive and 29.7 gb free on my c drive.  I have an NVIDIA GE force 8500T card.  Any ideas?

  • Error 4251 when trying to burn

I've had iTunes for years but just bought and downloaded an album, when I tried to burn I got error 4251. I tried burning three times but got the same error, any idea how to fix this?

"I've had iTunes for years but just bought and downloaded an album, when I tried to burn I got error 4251. I tried burning three times but got the same error, any idea how to fix this?"
I've seen multiple threads on this same error message. Since I'm very new to iTunes, I thought it was me or my PC, so I guess I'm relieved in a way to learn that this problem is being experienced even by long-time iTunes users.
To me, this says that something in a recent release of iTunes is the culprit. What I don't know is if Apple will consider a problem that Windows users are having to be serious enough to investigate and fix.
I actually thought I had a work-around. I went to edit/preferences/advanced/burning and changed to speed from the highest speed to 16X, and I managed to get 10 songs on a disc before it went 4251. I took the speed down to 6X, and got 12 songs. I went to 2X, and it went 4251 after 5 songs.
    So much for that work-around.

  • Premiere Element Freezes When Tried to Burn DVD

My computer meets and exceeds the requirements for Premiere Element 4. It also has about 50 GB of free disk space. I put together a file (about 30 minutes) consisting of stills and video clips, sound tracks, effects, and transition. When I tried to burn a DVD the first time, the program froze at the first instance of "burn" after completion of encoding and compiling. I removed Premiere Element and then reloaded it. I was able to burn a DVD. When I tried to burn again after making a minor change (to some text on still images), I then experienced the same problem even though with the same remove/reload routine.
From your website, I tried to sort out if the problem was due to my project or my computer system. I could create a DVD folder of a simple file but not a folder for my project. So it seemed that my project file was the problem. I then took the suggested approach, i.e. to make DVD folders of segments of my project and they all worked.
Finally, I was able to export my project to my hard disk as an AVI file and then load the file as a new project. Then burning a DVD was uneventful. The burned DVD showed that the file was about 1.6 GB in length.
Would appreciate your suggestions on how to identify the glitch that prevented me from burning a DVD in the straightforward manner. I might add that I had burned DVDs of projects of almost identical composition and length and had experienced no such problem.

From your description, it sounds like either the photos were larger than 1000x750 pixels in size and/or that you needed to clear your Media Cache (in Premiere Elements Edit/Preferences).

  • Itunes locks up computer when I try to burn songs in itunes

i had to have this imac's original optical cd burner replaced with a  MATSHITA DVD-R   UJ-85J: at an authorized apple location due to it would not eject discs.
I also had them replace the HD with a new  WDC WD10EALX-009BA0  1TB drive plus the increased the RAM to 3 GB.
now when i tried to burn songs in itunes  v 10.6.8  to a CD-R disc it goes thru the motions like it is going to start the burn process but ends up freezing my computer and I have to reboot without any disc being burned!??   It freezes each time I tried using itunes to burn songs.
I was also getting an error message saying some of the songs were not authorized on this computer but when I go to authorize this computer it says it is already authorized as well as 3 others out of 5 possible.
This imac has been used by all of us but since replacing the HD & CD drive mainly my daughter and my wife plug their iphones and ipad2 to it.  We all have iphones and an ipad2 but only my wife and daughter hook those items up to this computer as I have two other macs I use to connect my iphone to so have not tried to hook to this imac since the new hardware was installed.
My daughter was the 1st one to hook her iphone up to this imac and itunes now shows her name at the top of the itunes window when open.  I assume her name was transferred to this computer via her iphone.  Does that matter if my wife hooks her ipad2 and iphone up to this computer too?
Why would the computer lock up when trying to burn a music disc?
    Thanks
    Bob

I run Win 7 64 bit, there are no compatibility problem.
Give us your specs, also any information about what happened to you, and we'd at least have a fighting chance to sort things out.
Now, we've got no clue as to what went wrong.
