Try a reset. Hold the Sleep and Home button down (together) for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the red slider.

See if this lets the iPad start up.

You changed the proper preference, but you don't need to relaunch iTunes. You do, however, need to click the blue OK button at the bottom right of the preferences window. The change will happen then.

When I click on a link in an email, the comoputer locks p and the screen goes black, requiring a shut down from the on-off switch. My version of Firefox is up-to-date.

The on-off switch is the only way I can turn off the computer, because the screen is black. Then I turn on the computer again to reboot, and when I click on Firefox again it takes from 30 to 90 seconds before Firefox opens, at which point I get a message asking if I want to begin a new session. The same thing happens often, with many sites, when i click a link that has come up in Google search, or on Twitter or Facebook or within a story I'm reading. The link takes me to the url of what it was supposed to take me too, then within a second or so it switches to that Yahoo 'error handler' url, a page that offers search for similar sites.

"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.

It presents a black blank screen with just the circulating symbol in the middle.
I cannot turn if off or on to re-boot it as the on-off swith does not respond, neither does the press button on the bottom edge of the pad.
I have tried to connect it to iTunes but my computer (running Windows Vista) shows an error message 0xE8ooooo65.
Previous to this complete shut-down I had successfully connected to iTunes and tried to download the new 4.3.3 (?) Update.
This showed it would take four hours ! So it was left to do just that.
However it then went back after thfour hours it said it was backing up my files, but then shutdown.
Can anyone help?

You sound like an Apple support guy who hasn't been able to answer my questions.
To respond to some of the points you made,
- I did not ignore Ocean20's suggestion. If you has read my post, you would have known that I took my phone to the apple service centre where they tried this restore on THEIR machines. I am assuming that Apple guys know how not to block iTunes. So I actually do not understand your point about me trying the hosts file changes on my machine. Do you not believe that apple tested this issue with the correct settings?
- you also give a flawed logic of why the issue is a hardware issue. You mentioned that If I thought that the issue was with the software, i should try a restore and getting it to work. The problem is that my error (23), and many others comes up when the restore fails. And you would be astonished to know that not all errors are hardware errors. Sometimes even software errors prevent restores. Funnily enough Apple itself mention that 'in rare cases, error 23 could be hardware related'.
- all Apple has done so far is replicate the issue. I don not know how anyone can conclude that the issue is a hardware issue.
And by the way, I am not certain that this is a software bug. Again if you read my Posts, you will notice I only want a confirmation,/proof that the issue is hardware related as they mention..

How do I start up my computer when the screen is black after "waking" it up from sleep mode and/or turning it on from the shut down?

I really need help! I just got this MacBook Air almost two weeks ago. It is a refirbished one. Now lately, when I put it to sleep and then get back to it, it won't wake up. It just gives me a black screen and a running noise. Sometimes it does it too when I shut it down. And sometimes it will work fine as if it never happens-i move the mouse and the computer starts up. I am deaf and living on campus for school, so there is no chance for me to get some help through a simple phone call and there is no nearby apple stores or providers.
Please help me, I do not want to go back to my Dell computer.

I'm not certain but my new MBA 13...when in sleep mode comes back on from a black screen when I simply click on the left mouse button. Also, one time I did a SECURE EMPTY TRASH on files that totalled more than 1GB and it took so long that the fan kept increasing in speed so I pressed on the POWER button and the MBA shut...I was able to boot up with no problem. As a rule, I now only do secured erases for trash bin data totalling 500mb or less...anything above that gets a regular erase (dump).

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video

When I click on video it is stuck on one tv show, when I click 'done' the screen goes black so I can't access any other video that I downloaded from iTunes onto my iPad 2. How do I troubleshoot?

The video on my iPad 2 is frozen on a tv show, although it will play the tv show until the end. At the end, when I click 'done' the screen goes black so I can't see the other movies that I've downloaded. I've shut down a few times but it reverts to the same thing. If you press the caps lock key does it light up? If it does then this indicates that your system is booting but the display is either not recognized, is not displaying any video, or the display is displaying video but the backlight system is not lighting up. As long as you've tried turning up the brightness then there is not much you can do other than take it in for a diagnosis. If you have a very bright flashlight you can turn on the iMac and then shine the flashlight onto various areas of the iMac display to see if you can see any faint images on the display. If you do then this indicates that the display is displaying the image, but the backlight is not turning on for some reason. It doesn't change the outcome, but at least you can assist the technician who is troubleshooting your iMac.
Please let us know what you find out.
