When I was updating my IPAD, I downloaded the latest Itunes version and then updated my IPAD. When it came to backing up my IPAD, I received an error saying it could not be backed up because an error had occurred. It told me to disconnect and try again. I did this three times and it still will not work. What else can I do?

Any suggestions on what I can do to fix the problem?
I've also noticed that it started deleting some of the music on my iPod touch, and so everything on it is screwed up.
I don't want to restore it because then I'll lose all the information on my apps. (Is there any way to recover that information along with the apps?) If I do restore it, will there be a chance that the error will occur again, otherwise I would have lost everything for nothing.
By the way, the software version of my iPod is 3.1, it's 2nd gen., and my iTunes version is very far behind from the new version currently available. Could that be part of the problem, too?Try here:

Not updating the iOS should not effect your problem.
As long as all the apps are in the iTunes library, you will not lose app data by updating the iOS. -

Is there anyway I fix this?I found the solution (took forever to consolidate all the answers) for OS X 10.9 + Maverick. Finally!
1. Change permissions (as AOTPR says) to your User/Library/Preferences file so that your admin and user (the one you are using) has read + write permissions within the Get Info pane (command+I). You may have to add them with the sign.
2. Delete Adobe save for web 12.0 Prefs & Adobe save for web 13.0 Prefs files within the User/ Library/ Preferences folder. These may be hidden for some people, so when in a finder window, hold Option(alt) and click Go from the main top menu (keep holding Option/Alt) and click Library — the full Preferences folder should open for you.
3. Change the view when in Save for web pane in PS. If you have it in Cover Flow — it won't work. Change it to another view like List or Columns view.
Presto! Works for me on Maverick.

Were you able to find a solution to this issue? I am also getting the 'an error has occurred' message when trying to download or update any apps on my iPhone. Restarted, updated, re-booted, etc etc, nothing has worked.

When trying to download to download Firefox 4, the following message comes up: Downloading/Volumes/Firefox/05weDe.part. could not be saved because of an unknown error. Try saving to a different location. I have a Mac OS X Version 10.4.10. I think I should be able to download Firefox 4. I have Firefox Version 3.6 now.
I am often getting this kind of error, although I believe it's less frequent with Firefox 4 than with the previous version. I do not know a proper solution, but I have noticed this:
* If I simply try to re-download, it will fail again.
* If I clear the list in the download window, I can download the same file without any trouble.
I believe the problem may be related to the antivirus software. The file is downloaded completely, and instead of moving it to the final position Firefox gets confused and deletes it. -

ok, so tried to open my safari which was version 5.1.7 and i received the error message:

The same error occurred with whatever site I tried to access, so I uninstalled Safari, then reinstalled version 3.2.3 and this time I got the error message:

I have reconnected and tried again later numerous times and it hasn't worked! Has anybody else had this problem and knows how to fix it??? Help me!

when attempting a restore, as suggested, to try and fix a week wifi signal on my iphone 5 I got past the point where the sopftware was extracted from my phone but then an error message appeared saying that the phone could not be restored becase of an unknown error (3014). I have tried about 20 times to make it work after trying a number of suggestions I have seen online. This question has been answered in various forms, but I need a little additional information. It has been asked previously how to restore files that have been split into data and resource forks. I have been able to restore Word documents and older QT
