When I try to download a pdf file in Firefox, I get a blank page with the words "application/pdf Object" appearing in the title bar and no download takes place.

Using Firefox 12.0. I am told that my Firefox is up to date.

it seems like there is a bug with your Adobe® Acrobat® Plug-in for Web Browsers (version 10.1.3) and you should check for updates on the [http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/ plugincheck] website.
Possible solutions to this problem can be found at:

Let me know how it goes and thank you for your patience and interest in Mozilla Firefox!

That sounds like you are trying to access an online document using IE10 or IE11 on 64-bit Windows 7 or 8.  See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2716529

I am running firefox 23.0.1. I just upgraded to evernote 5.0+.
When I try to add webclipper 5.7 to firefox I get the error
Firefox can not modify the needed file
I could not locate the files referenced in the answers presented.

Firefox no longer unpacks an extension automatically, but renames the XPI file to the ID of the extension and copies that file to the extensions folder in the Firefox Profile Folder.
If an extension needs to be unpacked then there should be an unpack directive (<nowiki><em:unpack>true</em:unpack></nowiki>) in the install.rdf file of that extension.

You can try to set the extensions.alwaysUnpack pref to true on the about:config page.

  • When I try to open a new window in Firefox, I get an error message

When I try to open a new window in Firefox, I get the following error message:
    "Not Found
The requested URL /en-US/firefox was not found on this server."
...but other websites, such as Google or CNN.com, work just fine.
I'm running Firefox 3.6.28 on my MacBook Pro, with OS 10.4.11. I can't update to the latest version of Firefox unless I update my OS, which would be costly and also involve increasing my RAM.
But the Firefox homepage worked fine until this morning. Is this likely to be a temporary glitch? If not, how can I fix it?
    Thanks,
    Emmy

At least at the moment, the default Firefox homepage is back! So maybe this was a momentary glitch. But see below.
BTW, here's the URL for the page:
    http://start.mozilla.org/en-US/?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official
'''But, '''the "Mozilla Firefox Start Page" currently lacks a menu bar at the top with various Google options such as "Gmail," "more," etc. I found these very useful.
I'm wondering -- did Google tell Mozilla to stop including those links on its start page? Maybe Google wants us all to switch to having Google as our default homepage. Or is the lack of a menu bar just another temporary glitch?

What is your operating system?  Reader version?  Are these local or online PDFs?  If online, in what browser?

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Firefox will not open on my computer, even after reinstall, with no error message or when I try to run "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p. Help?

I recently installed firefox so I could use an adblocker. It installed just fine, and it worked just fine for about three days. Then yesterday it stopped opening. I'm on a Toshiba running Windows 7. The icon highlights when I click on it, but then it stops and won't open the browser at all. When I try to run it with the manual command "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p, I get the error message, "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\ refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location." I installed it to that location, and I don't need a disk. I'm connected to the Internet just fine and my other browsers (Chrome and IE) work the same as always. But they're swamped with ads and I really was happy wih Firefox when it was opening...how can I fix this issue?

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!

  • When I try to add an RSS or Atom feed, I get a dialog box with Open or Save instead of adding the feed to NewsFox like it used to do.

With Firefox 4.x, when I added a feed, it would open NewsFox in a new tab, and bring up a dialog box with info about that feed. I would click on "test this feed" and it would put all available items into NewsFox. Now, I get this dialog box with Open or Save. If I click on Open (declaring Firefox as the preferred app), then it opens the feed itself, it doesn't add it to NewsFox. I've tried going into Options and about:config but don't see anything to change that would fix this problem. I tried Search in Firefox Help but no relevant threads came up.

Thanks Cor-El. I already have it set to "Use NewsFox." I'm stumped.

  • When I try to load a newer version of firefox I get the error message "you don't have sufficient permissions to load firefox" from firefox. How do I get them?

have firefox 3.0.10 on my Mac with OS X .5.6 I can download the latest version of firefox, 7.0.1 dmg. I can open that and get a drive on the desktop. I am the only user and system administrator. How can I not have sufficient privileges? but when I drag the firefox program to the applications folder I always get this message from the firefox program. "you don't have sufficient privileges to open firefox" What is going wrong to prevent me from updating my firefox?

    See:
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > General : Accessibility : [ ] "Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page"
The setting in "Tools > Options > Advanced > General" is meant as an accessibility feature, as you can see by the label of that section, so that people with disabilities or people who use screen readers do not get confused and is not meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.

  • From certain websites, when I click on an icon, a get a blank page with a box that says "Mozilla Firefox" above and in the box, "History and Bookmarks". I click on that and then must wait half a minute for the correct screen to open

If I open Weight Watchers, for example, and then click on the Plan Manager icon, the above screen comes up and hides the WW screen. I click on "History and Bookmarks". Then wait. Finally the Firefox window disappears and the requested window opens. This is a new phenomenon. It did not happen when I was a member 4 months ago. This is not just for WW, however. Happened with some other website, too. Can't remember

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs.<br />
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.<br />

  • When I open Firefox I get a white page with a prompt that Firefox can't load because of an open tab.

This has happened for the last two days. It happens even when I turn off the computer and start it up again. I tried emptying history and it does not allow me to do that.

Yes, that is likely the issue that I posted above your last reply.

  • When I click print preview I get a blank page with the toolbar but no preview just ads for POGO and yahoo search. WHY?

Printer info, # of pp. page set-up, scale, & portrait or landscape choices are at the top of the page, but there is no preview print showing at all. Just a web search box and a POGO ad are visible in an otherwise blank page. What do I have to do to see the page I am trying to preview?

Did you post this from the computer with the problem?
It could be the work of one of your add-ons, or even add / mal-ware.
Look thru your add-ons list and make sure you know what each one is
there for. Also, check the programs that are on your computer
'''Windows:''' Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs.
    '''Mac:''' Open the "Applications" folder
    '''Linux:'''
    * [http://www.freesoftwaremagazine.com/articles/see_all_your_installed_applications_ubuntu_unity Ubuntu Unity]''' {web link}
    * Xfce: Applications Menu category sections
    * options depends on the package manager and the desktop environment
Go thru the list. If you find something that you don't
know what it is, use a web search.
